2 out of 5 eggsGood...for awhile

This review is from: Kingston Digital 64GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Kingston name

Cons: Like any flash drive, it can only be written to so many times before it become inaccessible.

Other Thoughts: All flash drives suffer from this. I put GB of music on it to enjoy in my car. After a week I formatted thr drive to start over. Now my car doesn't recognize the drive. This is the third drive this has happened to in a month for me.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsPackaging not the best

This review is from: Kingston Digital 64GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Great product does what is written. Metal casing, large opening for keychain.

Cons: Only a 5 year warranty, Silicon Power is lifetime.
Packing was horrible, I ordered 4 and they were sent in an envelope that almost got destroyed. I wish I could upload the pics so you could see what the envelope went through, very surprised the drives were not damaged.

Other Thoughts: I will order Silicon Power next time, better warranty,

1 out of 5 eggsFaulty then dead

This review is from: Kingston Digital 64GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Love the metal case

Cons: Formatted exFat 128kb. Stopped working at 10.2gb. Tried to format now 0gb available. Tried reset to original settings. Still 0gb available. Tried format NTFS. Still 0gb available. Wasted too much money.

Other Thoughts: Plus took weeks to arrive from China. I'd like to know that before I buy.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, We apologize for the issue experience with the DTSE9H flash drive. We are here to help and may be able to take some troubleshooting steps to get the drive working properly. If you look in Disk Management, the drive should should it's available capacity that may not be formatted or corrupted. If it has "Unallocated Space" then you should be able to create a new partition to format it. If you have done this already or this is not the case, please contact us so we can further investigate the issue and if needed replace the drive under it's five year warranty. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and an available technician will assist you.

Thank you for using the DTSE9 flash drive,

5 out of 5 eggsPretty well designed

This review is from: Kingston Digital 64GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: I'm very picky and I like these USB sticks. They are always on my person and they are reliable. I haven't had any of them fail yet and I have a few myself. I've purchased them for my whole family, and they haven't caused us any trouble yet. They also look nice and are so simple and attractive that nobody really notices that you have a couple of hundred gig of stuff on your key-chain. What a fantastic future we live in!

Cons: I wish they had a USB 3 model that is as well built. Also, it seems to do a lot of "burst" file transfers. It seems to be much much faster on the first gig of files than it is on the last gig. That could just be me imagining something.

2 out of 5 eggsGets really hot

This review is from: Kingston Digital 64GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Compact form factor - fits within USB vertical stack on laptop without crowding the other port.

Nice metal finish.

Cons: This thing gets super hot! Just plugging it in, it gets pretty warm - when reading or writing, it gets uncomfortably hot. I don't really use it, I get worried about permanent damage to either the drive or the USB port it's plugged into.

Other Thoughts: I've used Kingston flash drives for years, and this is the first drive I've had that got this hot. I don't trust it not to cause issues with my hardware, or to be reliable. In fact, I'm just going to toss it. I wouldn't want anyone else to have issues because of the heat.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the DTSE9 flash drive. The drive can be warm to touch when used as electricity will build up heat which is more noticeable with the metal casing. If the drive is becoming uncomfortably warm there may be an issue with that particular drive. If you still have the drive, we can replace it under it's five year warranty. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

1 out of 5 eggsTwice Bitten!

This review is from: Kingston Digital 64GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Light, small, compact

Cons: Just like the first one of these I bought, it lasted about 45 days and died on me. Has a ton of junk files that you cannot delete even using disk part. I have tried to talk to customer support and all they said is if I cannot fix it using disk part, then I need to send it in and get another in the mail. Waste of time IMO, and I will NEVER buy one of these again in my life. If it is not bad enough that these things take a millennium to transfer big files to and from, they also have a lifespan of less than 2 months. No way, never again!

Fool me once, shame on me! Fool me TWICE, shame on YOU!

Other Thoughts: If this device were much faster, and had a decent lifespan then it would be nice. However, this is twice now I have purchased this exact same memory stick, and twice now I have had the same exact problems. Perhaps it is due to bad manufacturing, or just bad luck. Either way, it left a bad taste in my mouth for Kingston and I don't think I will ever give their products another try. Even with a lifetime warranty, I can't trust their products with my files that are crucial to me, so why bother.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Jeramy,
I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue that has occurred with the two DTSE9H flash drives. We perform 100% testing on all of our products to ensure quality and reliability, as detailed here: http://www.kingston.com/us/company/testing . Although, with all electronic components there is a small chance of failure. It is odd to have two drives in a row fail and we may be able to further investigate the issue. As you found, we stand by all our products and can replace the faulty drives under their five year warranty. For further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston Digital 64GB DataTraveler SE9 USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Small, metal uni-body construction

Cons: Modest speed, generates a decent amount of heat during operation but not enough to be a concern

Other Thoughts: I also own the 16 GB version and, as noted in other reviews, these aren't speed demons. Writes are at 5.2 to 5.3 MB/s and sustained reads seem to hover around 19 to 20 MB/s. I just wanted some cheap "sneaker net" storage and these drives work well enough for that purpose but people needing high reads and writes will be better served with something USB 3.0 or an SSD with a USB adapter.
