5 out of 5 eggsiogear Memory Card Reader is Top Notch

Pros: Product is very handy if you are reading SD cards from different cameras - you dont have to install drivers for each individual camera. Not only that, I keep a 2 GB SD card in mine and use it a mobile flash drive. Other reviews stating that this product does not support 2 GB cards are outdated so dont pay attention to that.

Cons: Though I have managed to keep mine in place over a year, the caps could very easily be lost if you aren't careful. There have been issues with the body being too large to fit into front USB ports on some computers. I have been fortunate that my computers haven't had this problem.

Other Thoughts: It's a wonderful product and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient way to read SD cards on the go. Make sure your memory cards are either SD or MMC. Also check to see if you have a decent opening around your USB area on your computer.

3 out of 5 eggsAverage performace

Pros: It works as advertised. Convenient if you have a lot of SD cards lying around.

Cons: Speeds significantly lower than a dedicated usb card reader. Bigger than standard size make make this a tight fit if connected near other components. Indicator light doesn't do much, just on as long as it's connected to the port. Performance spotty in Vista

Other Thoughts: Since SD cards are formatted using FAT, you can use it with windows, linux, and mac without issue.

5 out of 5 eggsit is a surprise

Pros: Initially I bought this not as a card reader, but to use it with my extra SD card as my portable USB drive. Despite some warnings from some online reviews about it supports on 512MB SD card, I went ahead and bought it (since I have only 512MB SD card at that time).

Recently, I bought 1GB and 2GB SD cards (to expand my SD capacity 8-) and to my surprise, this card reader supports them without any problem. It is a money well spent.

Cons: I am always worry that the caps (on both sides) can easy to fall out although it hasn't happened.

2 out of 5 eggsCorrupts data

Pros: It worked a few times with no problems.

Cons: Destroyed the data on my card 4 different times, data was unable to be restored. Now that I am using the SD card in a different reader I have never had any problems.

Other Thoughts: I would say this worked well 4 out of 5 times and on the 5th time data would get corrupted.

5 out of 5 eggsBuy with confidence

Pros: Current production models work with SD cards at least through 2GB. I don't have a larger card yet. It's USB 2 so only the SD card itself limits the transfer rate. Small footprint for pocket or purse (not that I personally carry a purse).

This device is BETTER than less-expensive readers both in design and operation. I've purchased both. The GFR202SD will generally read/write to a given SD card twice as fast (ie. half as much time required) as the cheaper brand-X version.

Cons: Not available in wild colors or scents. :-)

Other Thoughts: Spend an extra couple of bucks and get the GFR202SD. IMHO, it's the way to go.

BTW, don't even consider buying an SD card 1GB or larger unless it is at least 60x, preferably faster.

5 out of 5 eggsMine works w/2GB SD

Pros: Works w/my 2GB Ultra II card.
Caps still fit snug after a year.

Cons: Caps can be easily lost, wish they'd made the tips so you could snap one unto the other somehow.

No hole for those that like to carry it on a lanyard/keychain.

Other Thoughts: I've had mine for over a year, used it w/an old 128MB SD card for a while and I just swapped a 2GB SDisk Ultra II into it... Worked like a charm.

In fact it works noticeably faster w/the Ultra II card, pretty much at it's rated spd (10.7 MB/s according to HDTach).

It could barely push the old 128MB card at USB1.1-like speeds. I suppose the card makes a big difference, heh.

Anyway, like I said, I've had mine for over a year... Caps still fit snugly, works like a charm.

Model number for mine: GFR202SD

*I read somewhere that Iogear will replace yours free of charge if you have the older model # that doesn't work w/2GB cards.

5 out of 5 eggsFast...

Pros: Fast, cheap, works with 1GB 150x SD.

Cons: Caps can be easily lost.

Other Thoughts: Is the fastest reader that I have - on a pqi 1GB 150x SD card has 17.0MB/s reading speed.
Works with any SD from 8MB to 1GB (I don't have bigger).

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with 2gb cards

Pros: Small size, good transfer rates (8Mb/s read and 2Mb/s write with 512Mb Kingston SD).

Cons: I bought this reader when I purchased a pair of 512Mb Kingston SD cards... worked well, until I recently upgraded to 2Gb Kingston SD cards which IT DOESN'T READ (and it's not the cards, they work in other devices just fine). Also, the SD card slot cap comes off easily, and I'm surprised that I haven't lost it yet.

Other Thoughts: I called Iogear tech support and was told that the GFU202SD does not work with card sizes larger than 1Gb. Moreover, neither their website nor product literature states the card capacity limitations >:o I feel like I've been the victim of false advertising!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great.

Pros: I've been looking for a reader that actually works well for quite a while. Now, my search is over.
This reader works very reliably (I've tried aleast 10 distincly differnt computers) and no hang-ups, slow-downs, crashs, curruptions or anything of that nature, so far.

I've tested a Adata 2GB and a March 512MB card. I use the 2Gb card on a daily bases.

This reader also happens to be the fastest reader that I've had . On my 2GB SD card (rated 150x), I'm getting about 8 MB/s write and about 23 MB/s read.

Cons: The manufacture does not state max card size support or max speed. Like I mentioned before, it works with AData 2GB and March 512MB.

Other Thoughts: I'm happy now.
