4 out of 5 eggsGood so Far

Pros: Fast out the gate. Was cheap when I bought it.

Cons: Slows down over time. Not sure if that is software or controller issue. Either way 4 eggs from me.

1 out of 5 eggsBricked Drive After Six Weeks

Pros: Was fast

Cons: After six weeks it unexpectedly became unreadable on my Windows machine. Tried both 32 and 64 bit, but would lock the machine both as an internal or external drive. Tried a Linux system, and could "see" the drive, but could not add, remove, delete, or format. Was able to copy most of the data off with a Mac, but it also was unable to format the drive.

Other Thoughts: I have had another SSD for a couple of years without a problem.

1 out of 5 eggsSo far so bad

Pros: Relatively cheap compared to other SSD drives. Seems like energy efficient and good for use in laptops. Good specs on paper.

Cons: I used Acronis True Image 2013 and copied my old 7200RPM drive image to Plextor drive. After that, Plextor drive stopped working. I am returning it.

5 out of 5 eggsworks for me

Pros: Speeds as advertised - I got results basically the same as the HardOCP review using AS-SSD (connected to Intel SATA3 on a H77 motherboard using Intel Rapid Storage drivers). Using Windows 8.

Price per GB better than Samsung and reputation/quality better than OCZ.

5 year warranty, new Marvell controller.

Cons: None so far. Not much included software but I don't care and would never have used it anyway. I will update review if drive fails.

Other Thoughts: I exhaustively went through the specs and prices of various 512GB SSDs before settling on the Plextor. It has the best price/performance/reliability combo I've found.

To the commenter 'Tsunami': you may get slightly better crystalmark results with 1 thread of prime95 running to prevent CPU from idling down. Also, no firmware on USA site because I think maybe all the M5P's shipped in USA came with 1.01. If you goto (euro site), 1.01 is available there. We'll see what happens when another firmware is released.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Drive!!

Pros: Awesome Speeds!! Great price!! True Speed Technology!
5 Years Warranty! And did I mention ridiculous speeds?

Cons: I'll Get Back to you on that..

Other Thoughts: Came to this drive after one of my vertex 3 drive failed out of the blue and destroyed my raid 0 array. Vowing never to use an OCZ product again I decided to go with this drive and I do not regret it one bit.

My Speeds So Far after a week of heavy usage....

Sequential Read : 535.193 MB/s
Sequential Write : 451.713 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 410.009 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 437.706 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 33.340 MB/s [ 8139.7 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 74.574 MB/s [ 18206.6 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 380.127 MB/s [ 92804.4 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 286.537 MB/s [ 69955.2 IOPS]

My Specs..

ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3
Intel Core i7-2600K overclocked to 4800 MHz
ATI Radeon HD 5570 (I Know Its Old. Planning On Upgrading)
Running Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x64

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Drive

Pros: - Drive uses high quality Toshiba toggle NAND
- Blazing fast read and writes
- CONSISTENT fast read/writes
- 5yr warranty by a very reputable company

Cons: - Box says software (ie backup/cloning utility) included in box... not true. It has a software key for the utilities you can download off their site.

- Poor manual with no info on firmware updates etc.
- No support page (ie firmware) for M5P series on Plextor site yet.

Other Thoughts: CrystalDiskMark 3.0.2 on a cloned (ie very dirty ASUS N53SV-A1)
Read (MB/s) Write (MB/s)
Seq: 498.7 427.1
512k: 373.2 398.1
4k: 29.27 42.94
4k QD32: 317.0 255.1

Picked this up rather than my other choice (the Vertex 4) mainly due to OCZ's current financial state. Plus the price wasn't all that much more for a much more consistent and potentially reliable ssd.

5 out of 5 eggsSpeed of Light with RELIABILITY

Pros: I ordered this SSD for $ 450 which I think is a good price for the latest in technology when it comes to SSD. The main reason I ordered Plextor was the 5 Year warranty and proven track record of Plextor SSD's. I am using it in my Core i7 PC Intel Z68, 16 GB Muskin Memory. Windows 7 got installed in 8 minutes. I have yet to do some performance tests but I will do it on this weekend and update my review. I was using a Samsung 530 SSD before this, which is undoubtedly a great SSD. I did notice slightly better performance improvement than Samsung but not really a lot. The drive came with cloning software which I did not use. I did not install the Performance benchmarking software either. I loved the Samsung Magician software, I wish Plextor can provide the same so the OS settings can be optimized for SSD usage. So far no complaints, I have to use the PC more and try different things like playing games, Video conversion/editing, move small/big files.
Costs less that the 512 GB Samsung model.
I will update my review once I do so. Drive is very well made and is super slim and a beauty to look at :) and I am lucky I got one :)

Cons: NO Software like Samsung Magician to optimize the OS settings. You can do it manually - so no big deal.

Other Thoughts: No
