5 out of 5 eggsSSD Power

This review is from: Plextor M5P Series PX-128M5Pro 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Biggest Pro is the loading time... Solid State Drives are mainly for gamers who desire that split second load time, and this hard drive delivers it (assuming there are no other bottlenecks in your box)... Very Compact yet easy to install, A Solid State Drive is one of the best upgrades period.

Cons: I have no problems with this product, i love it, but the form requires me to fill this spot... lol

Other Thoughts: The install for this device in the box was easy, install times, load times, especially loading windows 7... is hilarious fast... I recommend this product for the hi iops which is crucial in choosing a solid state drive, this one loads at speeds that have made me swear off hard disk drives, plus the SSD's dont use as much power, this is by far one of the best improvements in computer technology as far as alleviating processing/loading/readNwrite speeds for a pc.

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid For Over A Year Now

This review is from: Plextor M5P Series PX-128M5Pro 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Picked this up over a year ago with "StarCraft Heart of the Swarm" for under $100. Not a single issue or BSOD. Made a HUGE improvement in speed.

Cons: None, other than now SSD's are cheaper now, just go straight for the 256GB one.

Other Thoughts: I have Windows 8.1, and all my programs on this SSD, keep all my PC games, music and photos on a old school drive and everything works great. Give it a couple more years and 1TB SSD drives will be just as cheap.

5 out of 5 eggsbest drive I've ever had

This review is from: Plextor M5P Series PX-128M5Pro 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Speed is way faster than any disk drive I have ever had.
Reliability seems perfect so far.
There are no special tricks required other than the little adapter plate to fit a 3.5" bracket space, which is included.
No special formatting, no problems recognizing the drive, it just works.
I will be buying another one in a few days for a Win7 computer.

Cons: None with the drive itself.
I do have a minor problem fitting it to the 3.5" drive drawers in my Coolermaster Cosmos 1000 case, which has unusual drive drawers that mount the drive using the holes on the bottom of the drive rather on the side of the drive. I wind up using the included adapter bracket and packing it into place in the drive drawer with 1-sided sticky thick felt pads, which works ok. The pads don't touch the drive, they are between the adapter bracket and the drawer in the case.

Other Thoughts: I have been using this M5Pro Extreme 128 GB for 8 months now, in my WinXP system.
Previously I was using a Corsair Neutron GTX 120 GB. The Neutron was also fast, at least as fast as the Plextor, but the Neutron failed after about 9 months of use in the same computer.
Speedwise I would call the Plextor M5P and Corsair Neutron GTX pretty similar.
Reliability, I am hoping this Plextor will last for many years, because I am tired of short-lived boot drives.
I have gone through 3 or 4 WD Blue disk drives in the last 3 years and I am done with them. When you comb through the manufacturer's claims about reliability on the Plextor web site, you find more information about reliability than with the other makers of SSDs. I am hoping this is the real deal.
The only other drive I know of currently that I think has top notch reliability is the Seagate Constellation ES disk drive family. The Constellations are "enterprise" drives, they are several ounces heavier than a comparable WD enterprise drive, and I think better quality overall. I use a 1 TB Constellation ES for my data drive, and another 1 TB Constellation ES for a backup drive. The 128 GB Plextor SSD is big enough for me to install my OS and all my applications and still have lots of space left over, given the separate drives for data and backup.
I don't install games however. If you want a lot of games installed on an SSD, you would probably need a bigger one, or a second SSD just for game installs.

5 out of 5 eggsPlextor M5Pro Extreme 128Gb

This review is from: Plextor M5P Series PX-128M5Pro 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: 5yr Warranty
2.4mill MTBF
Price
Plextor Reliability
100,000 IOPS
7mm Height

Cons: 3.5" Bracket not so good

Other Thoughts: Installed in my 2010 white macbook without any problems. Downsized from a seagate 750G 5400prm drive but, system responds a lot better and performs better. Macbook does not get as hot and battery life improved.

5 out of 5 eggsSmooth as butter

This review is from: Plextor M5P Series PX-128M5Pro 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: 1. Price
2. Performance
3. Reliability
4. Works seamlessly with Linux (Debian)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: SSD will just get better, over time. It'll never had the density of platters until there is a new means to building 3D density chips at a cost effective price.

SSD/HDD spoils one to never go back to straight HDD.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Plextor M5P Series PX-128M5Pro 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Great price (on sale)
Great warranty (5 years)
Long MTBF (over 2million)
These were all the factors that got me to switch from buying another Samsung SSD even though that one runs excellent also.

Cons: 2.5 to 3.5" Adapter it came with is useless for most tool-less cases.
I purchased one of the black plastic BYTECC Bracket-35225 and worked in my lianli case.

Other Thoughts: I did a fresh install of Windows 7 so cannot comment on how their migration software is.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Plextor M5P Series PX-128M5Pro 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Noticeably faster Windows and App startup times. Cloning software was very easy to use.

Cons: Possibly already having an issue with 1 of the 2 drives. About 3 weeks after installing 1 of the drives part of my Windows Registry became corrupted and the Windows System Restore didn't resolve the issue even though I successfully restored to an earlier time. Luckily I had the old drive still intact and reckoned it on to the SSD drive so I didn't have to do a complete reinstall. It could be coincidence. Time will tell.

Other Thoughts: I've seen plenty of claims of Windows starting up in 15 seconds. Those that make that claim probably have an I7 processor. No matter how fast the drive is, the processor is still involved in the startup process and thus has an impact on startup times. My computers have a 3.6Mhz Phenom Quad processor and it takes them about 40 seconds for Windows and for the startup apps to finish loading. But it used to take about 75 to 90 seconds with a 7200 SATA drive, so big improvement none the less.
