5 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Small and fast

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a internal card reader on my wife's PC as it was moved to a closed cabinet and would no longer be accessible. This reader is faster than the internal, giving performance higher than the cards I've used are rated at.

5 out of 5 eggsUSB Card Reader - Beauty & Speed

Pros: - This device is sleek, thin, and shiny.
- It looks a whole lot more expensive than it really is.
- The USB plug is angled so it allows for a more discrete addition to your desk.
- The Vantec logo glows bright white to tell you it's alive.
- Each device has a dedicated LED light to indicate whether a card is inserted, and it also blinks (constant blink rate is unaffected by speed of data transfer) to indicate activity.
- You can have more than one card inserted simultaneously.
- Has a good weight and feels sturdy.

- Acceptable Read and Write Speeds:
800 MB file transferred from computer to old Lexar 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo in 130 seconds (6.15 MB/s)
Same file transferred back to computer in 30 seconds (26.67 MB/s)
9.5 GB (a crapload of picture files) transferred from Patriot 16 GB SDHC to computer in 542 seconds (17.53 MB/s)
800 MB file from computer to same SDHC in 53 seconds (15.09 MB/s)
Same file, same card, back to computer in 45 seconds (17.78 MB/s)

Cons: - The device is a fingerprint magnet.
- It's so small you need to physically pick the unit up to insert a card.
- To insert a card into the SD slot, it must be inserted upside down; this isn't so much a con but rather an odd quirk.

Other Thoughts: This device does the job and looks good while doing it. It does not get warm when transferring data and it's easy to use. Upon plugging it in to a USB slot, Windows detects it and 4 new removable disk drives show up in "My Computer".

It's a seemingly idiot-proof item that can be used by people of all ages and experiences.

I've only used the MS and SD slots, so I can't speak of the usability of the additional slots.

A few other reviewers stated the unit didn't feel all that sturdy. My question to them is: exactly how much abuse does one typically put a device like this through? A sensitive card coming out of one's camera should be treated with a certain level of respect, and thus this device's rigidity should more than suffice.

4 out of 5 eggsThe Ultimate Compact Card Reader

Pros: Small, sleek and compact. 58 in 1 reader.

Cons: Plastic seems a little thin and could possibly break easily. Perhaps give it a stronger internal shell.

Other Thoughts: I don't know why people are complaining about Windows 7 issues. I plugged mine into my Windows 7 64-bit system and had no problems with it recognizing right away.

1 out of 5 eggsRMA

Pros: Slim design, compatible with many, many card formats.

Cons: Windows 7 64bit cannot use the device due to a driver install problem. I contacted Vantec and they said it is a universal driver and recommended RMA.

Other Thoughts: I would probably give 4 or 5 eggs if the device worked.

2 out of 5 eggsDescription is wrong.

Pros: It's slim and sturdy. A good candidate for the laptop bag.

Cons: The features description out-and-out lies. An adapter IS needed for Micro SD

Other Thoughts: I wish I had purchased this from newegg. Then returning it would be so much easier.
To be clear, I have this exact model. No adapter is included and here are the types that need an adapter:
Mini SD, MMC 4.0, RS MMC 4.0, MMC micro, Micro SD, T-flash, MS M2.
I took the above from the included spec sheet in the device packaging. Perhaps it is wrong also, but there is no way a Micro SD card will fit anywhere on this.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat when it works

Pros: Slim design with plenty of compatibility with card media.

Cons: Windows 7 driver issues

Other Thoughts: For some reason, this is hit or miss. Sometimes Windows 7 sees the device and uses it normally and other times, I get a driver install error and it will not work.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Works great with compact flash. I was using the port on my printer to write previously and got horrendous speeds. This cuts my writing time to 1/50th of what it was.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Haven't tried anything other than compact flash.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Works.

Cons: Very thin. Ordered these since Trend stop making the ones I wanted with the xD slot. These are wider and uses very thin plastics. Could break easily.

Other Thoughts: I ordered 5 of these. They are working well so far. USB input/output connection is on the corner which is weird. I still prefer Trend memory card readers (they are more sturdier than these)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat litte card reader

Pros: Small, fast, works well under Ubuntu Linux (Jaunty/9.04). Great load times with USB 2.0 on my laptop here.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Mini-SDHC works well on this with the little SD adapter that usually comes with those cards.

5 out of 5 eggsThe awesome black box

Pros: Small and skinny
Sleek looking
Easy to use
Nice LED lights
Fast
58 in 1 !!!!

Cons: The shell is a high gloss plastic that shows fingerprints and smudges easily.

Other Thoughts: This thing is great. I only used the SD slot. The cards plug in smoothly and everything starts up instantly without any extra software or settings. You are able to fill each of the four slots at the same time to transfer data to different types of memory cards. The Vantec symbol lights up bright when powered on and each slot has a light that tells you something is plugged in and working (these LEDs are bright). Comes with a good quality USB2.0 cable. The shell is very sexy looking and clean but it gets dirty easily showing fingerprints and such. It is very skinny so easily fits into pocket with buldging out. I love this thing and would recommend it
