1 out of 5 eggsDead already

Pros: I like all the connection options.

Cons: The slots for the cards are too shallow. When inserting a card it is too easy to get the card off center and not get it seated properly. I used it less than a few dozen times and already bent one of the contact pins in the CF slot. (which is the most important slot to me.)

4 out of 5 eggsnice for higher end boards

Pros: will read just about anything u can plug in it not much that it can't do

Cons: does use 2 sata plugs that is a major downside and i can't get full benefits without a 1397 plug.

Other Thoughts: i have a new motherboard picked out to make a really sweet gaming and graphics creator i make patterns for my dad to cut out in a scroll saw people give me photos to download and i don't have to worry if it can read their card or not. if u r using it for professional use or u just need to read a bunch of different cards to download for family and fiends make sure u have a 1397 plug and 2 extra sata plugs before you buy this reader

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: fast exchange of information and extra USB plugs convenient access to product

Cons: takes 2 sata plugs really no need for fire wire anymore instruction booklet is not very helpful. if u don't have a high knowledge of firewire setup all plugs r not able to be used

Other Thoughts: if u want 2 hard drives go with a lower priced one without the extra accessories really don't know what a 1394 plug is for instruction booklet is almost useless u might want to call support to get a usable set of instructions

1 out of 5 eggsMove Along, Nothing to see here...

Pros: Looks cool, good name in the past for PC gear.

Cons: This was one of those researched purchases that got horrible feedback on Newegg AFTER I bought mine. This is a terrible product, should not be sold at such a great vendor.

Other Thoughts: Mine took brute force to install into the proper drive bay. Unbelievable how bad it fits, but I really needed it then.
IT GETS WORSE, IT IS SO POORLY DESIGNED WITH IMPROPER CARD INSERTION DEPTH THAT you WILL bend pins on the reader. The cards hang out and barely insert at all. Its a joke. Too bad I found this out myself and now I'm stuck with a wedged in device that is unreliable. I'm a photographer and I know my way around a CF card reader. Pass on this junk. Can't RMA or I would ASAP.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrid all the way

Pros: It looks like it has a lot of stuff

Cons: Doesn't fit the drive bay without tweaking and forcing it.
doesn't actually accept sd cards the slot is too tight.
Poor craftsmanship

Other Thoughts: First off I couldn't even fit it into my case (coolermaster haf 932) without bending the tabs a little then forcing it really hard. Its made just slightly too large for the 5.25" drive bay it's supposed to fit, only by a few mm but enough that it messes things up.
then once I had it in I found out I couldn't even get SD cards into the slot because it was too tight and slightly misalligned.

2 out of 5 eggsNot quite worthless...

Pros: Fit fairly well in my toolless case (with a minimum of "surgery"). Cables are well marked and were long enough to connect in my full tower case with the card reader in the bottom slot.

Cons: Where do I start? It took a bit of thinking to get it to work in my toolless case (one pin and one screw per side). Doesn't exactly fit a 5.25" slot. Just a hair narrower and looks it. (Fortunately, my case has a door so I can't generally see it although I know it's not right.) As mentioned before, it's close to impossible to remove a microSD card once it's in the slot as it's not spring loaded. The SD card fits upside down and it's a *really* tight fit. Have to hold on to the card reader to make sure you don't pull the card reader out along with the SD card.

Other Thoughts: First (and last) VANTEC product. Card readers are cheap so I think I'll just buy a different one instead of spending the money to RMA this one.

1 out of 5 eggsMisaligned multimedia card slots

Pros: Multimedia card slots, USB ports, eSATA ports and Firewire ports nicely laid out on the bezel. Cables are clearly labeled, sufficient length for mid tower case (insufficient length for full tower case).

Cons: 1) Card slots misaligned with bezel.
2) Difficult to insert SD card (too tightly pinched from the sides).
3) Misleading 'flyer' - multimedia cards all USB-2 cabled, not e-SATA. This is just a USB-2 multimedia card reader with additional front panel ports cabled to motherboard.
4) The 4-wire (i-Link) Firewire slot is so far recessed from the bezel that one cannot connect an i-Link Firewire cable.
5) The indicator LED for multimedia cards does not illuminate.
6) Card insertion is precariously shallow.

Other Thoughts: This was the first Vantec product I ever purchased, and it will probably be the last. Between the restocking fee and return shipping, it isn't worthwhile for me to 'RMA' the product. I plan to wait for a better internal multimedia card reader with eSATA, USB, and 1394a ports, then jettison the Vantec UGT-CR955-BK reader.
