Good
- Pros: Fit's nicely in a floppy drive slot. Works great so far as I can tell. There are two led lights. One to tell you the computer has power to it. The other that tells you a card is present in the drive.
- Cons: Can't find any yet.
Ok I guess...
- Pros: Reads just about any memory card on the planet! Has a front mounted USB port. Nice looking. Did not need the driver disk Vista recognized it right away.
- Cons: Had to remove one wire form the plug to get it to work. Also it takes a loooong time for my MB to initialize the USB during it's POST, I thought about sending it back but I looked at the other card readers Newegg had and did not see many others the will real MicroSD with out the adapter.
- Other Thoughts: It's an ok card reader for the price. Shows up as 5 removable drives?

Keep Looking
- Pros: Fit in the case, no need for drivers for XP and above, easy installation. Fast shipping. Easy ordering
- Cons: No black faceplate.
On my MSI 7151 motherboard, I get a USB Power Surge error from Windows XP's System tray that rendered the device inoperable. I suspect this is a problem unique to my motherboard. See "other thoughts" for details.
- Other Thoughts: I could not get all card ports to work due to the USB controller power surge problem. My motherboard would report that the card reader required "Unknown" power versus 100mA or 500mA like my other USB devices reported. I set the device manager to ignore USB errors on the USB Controller in hopes of bypassing the problem, but this simply suppressed the error message and the reader still did not work.
However, I was able to get the card reader's USB port to work on it by connecting only the top half of the plug to my motherboards USB terminals. I saw mention that someone clipped a wire to get theirs to work fully. I wish I knew which one.
In sum, I think you can find a good reader that has both black and white faceplates out there. Keep looking.
Look elsewhere
- Pros: Reads many different types of cards. Has USB port on front. Cheap.
- Cons: Poor quality USB device. Causes motherboard to take forever to initialize USB during POST. Windows 'looses' the device often, so you have to uninstall it from the device manager and reinstall or reboot. Slots are not enclosed so cards can be lost inside the reader if inserted at an upward angle.
- Other Thoughts: More frustration than it's worth.
Nice cheap reader
- Pros: Got the job done. Ubuntu recognized it immediately and presented me with half a dozen new "drives".
- Cons: The lights are annoying.
- Other Thoughts: This thing seems to collect really fine dust, hit it with some compressed air every couple months to keep things working right.
