4 out of 5 eggsFinally got it to work after a few hours of headache

Pros: I was finally able to get this to work. Speeds and size are nice although it's only 223gb formatted.

Cons: Links do not work on the site for tools.

Other Thoughts: (former review was written while angry and while it still applies, now that I can get the product working it's not hateful).

1 out of 5 eggsDriver and Downloads Broken

Pros: It was on sale.

Cons: Win 7 didn't recognize it as a SSD by default, unable to format. Tried to download their tools from their website:

http://www.teamgroupinc.com/en/Download

And every single link is busted.

Will not purchase DARK L3 products again

2 out of 5 eggs240GB SSD

Pros: For starters you get a lot of storage for a reasonable price, I think I got this on sale too so it was even cheaper haha.

Cons: After owning this for about 3 or 4 months it started to make a really weird, almost like grinding, sound on startup. Unfortunately I'm going to have to buy another one because it will not go away and can only use my computer after turning it on and off several time until the SSD stops making the noise.

Other Thoughts: I could have just gotten the 1 bad one. I would read up on this a bit more and see if anyone else has this issue. But I've narrowed it down and I'm 99.9% positive it's this SSD making the noise.

5 out of 5 eggsWell, it works

Pros: It works.
It's fast.

Cons: Nothing really.
Doesn't come with a SATA cable, but I have like a billion laying around.

Other Thoughts: Wish it came with a coupon for a chocolate bar.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent SSD for the price.

Pros: Price
High Sequential Read/Write performance
Reasonably IOPS and Random read/write
Size is sufficient to hold all programs.
RAID Support

Low power consumption

My fastest it has worked so far is around 300Mbps, coming off of an HDD RAID. Without the RAID, the HDDs do not come close to enough speed to even do that much, and working together they are still the bottleneck. They cannot touch this SSDs performance.

Cons: The biggest con of this drive is the storage size. It is reported as 240GB, but what you actually get is 223GB.

This tells us some important information. Mostly that the NAND used inside of this device is built on 25nm. In 25nm SSDs, the average size per individual NAND is 16GB each. Since 25nm wears down faster than larger NAND it has become common practice that one 16GB NAND is reserved and used instead as a backup should one NAND or part of a NAND fail. This helps to extend the life. some companies like Intel will give you an extra 16GB unit to make up for this and not hurt the actually size, but Team Group chooses not to.

Other Thoughts: This device makes use of a Phison PS3108-S8 controller chip. It is a cheap chip, but does well. In sequential tests, the chip does excellent beating some of the much more expensive units available and often being bottlenecked by the SATA 6Gbps connection. Where this chip falls short is the random input operations per second. While still being minimum of 15 times faster in this area than even the fastest HDD, its performance is rather mediocure compared to SSDs, falling somewhere short of the middle.

Despite the size reductions, this SSD is still excellent. It runs fast and provides great performance. In gaming it will perform fast, and so close to other SSDs I question if you will notice a difference between it and the highest end SSD. Only in random writes does it fall short, but that is only for small random writes which you will never notice unless you need to open or save more than 20 files in different locations simultaneously.

Its a great unit, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for their first real SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent value

Pros: I replaced an OCZ Vertex 3 (120GB) with this drive. This drive is definitely a bit faster, but the previous drive wasn't slow.

7.9 on the Windows Experience Index (Windows 7 - 64-bit)

Amazing value!

Cons: No software included. A free utility to image the drive from a larger hard disk would be a huge value add. This is a non-issue if you already have software & knowledge of how to do this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat price, working great, Fast

Pros: It is a great price, installed super easy. I installed it into my work laptop. And it has made it so I don't want to throw my laptop out my car window anymore.

I tested the benchmarks and it tests very close to advertised speeds. I just ordered 2 more I like it so much

Cons: it does have a cheaper feel with the plastic housing but once you install it you never see that again.

Other Thoughts: only thing I wish it did come with is data migration software. but it was easy enough to find a free software to use

5 out of 5 eggsTeam E Woo Wee

Pros: Saw the speeds and liked the price, was hesitant b/c no reviews. Not no more. Popped this on a few trial benches to see how it would do. First run, got a lil' worried, b/c on my beast 4930K, Asrock all SATA III, it ran at 270/260 (rd/write seq) was going to go ballistic, but realized used an old Blue 3Gibs cable. Oppps. Swapped out, with a 6.0 and bang, ran 520/490. Popped into a second build, AMD tester, 6800K, it blamed at 519/420 as well. The speed is there. Best SSD I've ever used for the stellar low price.

Cons: The casing is a bit flimsy. It is similar to many, but many are flimsy. It isn't Vector casing solid. Won't knock an Egg or anything, but do think Team E should build it out with some brass to show sand. Make it stick out a little, not play the flimsy parallel. The design and motif is ok, nothing to get all dewed about.

Other Thoughts: This is a review after one week. Who knows, maybe it lasts 44 years, maybe tomorrow I am calling Team E and demanding everything under the sun before my Anandtech review comes out. LLOOLL j-K.
