5 out of 5 eggsGreat product at a great price

Pros: Great price for the size of SSD you buy. Easy to install, no problems and it is working great.

Cons: Kind of hokey assembly. OK, I'd trade price for looks but the SSD isn't as sleek as it could be. The "do not remove or warranty is void" stickers were already coming off before I even got it out of the box. Disc enclosure had visible gaps and didn't seem to have the normal precision I expect from hardware manufacturers.

That being said, I'll never see it again since it is in the computer case now. All I can think of is the old adage "He has got a face suitable for radio work".

Other Thoughts: I wish Newegg wouldn't use OnTrac. Their tracking is silly (it says delivered when they only mean they delivered it to the local postal center) and then they pass it off to the USPS which is not that reliable as well (took them 3 days to make the delivery in the same city). Again I get the savings part but trusting two unreliable people to do the job just doubles you chances of a mishap.

2 out of 5 eggsflashing screen

Pros: fast, the OS transfer went fast, faster than I have ever seen.

Cons: I could not use this device past the OS install. The screen caused major flickering, icons would flash between a default image, regular image, and plain not there at all. The same was happening to the start bar. Arther a few moments the screen would blank out and be come unusable

Other Thoughts: I enjoy Team products I have had RAM in my system for years with out problems.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I got this drive during a Shell Shocker deal for $68 delivered. I have no complaints about a drive that does this well for $0.28/GB.
It's serving as a secondary SSD to handle all of Windows temp files, applications' temp files (Java, browsers, Adobe, etc), and the Windows swap file. As well as any overflow when my primary C:\ (SSD) gets below 10% free space.
I certainly have no complaints about this drive. The box lists the top speeds as 500MB/s Writes and 550MB/s Reads when benchmarking with ATTO. My tests exceeded those specs.
Test system is an Intel Core i7-3930K @ 3.20GHz, 32GB RAM, Win7x64

5 out of 5 eggsExtremely fast

Pros: I've owned this for over a year now and still no problems. I installed the full version of Windows 8.1 onto it without a problem. Out of all 705 ranked SSDs on User Benchmark my Team Dark L3 in particular ranked 167th. That's actually pretty dang quick. Got it on Flash Sale.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: There have only been several of these SSDs tested on User Benchmark so far giving this SSD a current overall rank of 340th which is right in the middle. That's still not bad at all for the price.

4 out of 5 eggsFinally got it to work after a few hours of headache

Pros: I was finally able to get this to work. Speeds and size are nice although it's only 223gb formatted.

Cons: Links do not work on the site for tools.

Other Thoughts: (former review was written while angry and while it still applies, now that I can get the product working it's not hateful).

1 out of 5 eggsDriver and Downloads Broken

Pros: It was on sale.

Cons: Win 7 didn't recognize it as a SSD by default, unable to format. Tried to download their tools from their website:

And every single link is busted.

Will not purchase DARK L3 products again

2 out of 5 eggs240GB SSD

Pros: For starters you get a lot of storage for a reasonable price, I think I got this on sale too so it was even cheaper haha.

Cons: After owning this for about 3 or 4 months it started to make a really weird, almost like grinding, sound on startup. Unfortunately I'm going to have to buy another one because it will not go away and can only use my computer after turning it on and off several time until the SSD stops making the noise.

Other Thoughts: I could have just gotten the 1 bad one. I would read up on this a bit more and see if anyone else has this issue. But I've narrowed it down and I'm 99.9% positive it's this SSD making the noise.

5 out of 5 eggsWell, it works

Pros: It works.
It's fast.

Cons: Nothing really.
Doesn't come with a SATA cable, but I have like a billion laying around.

Other Thoughts: Wish it came with a coupon for a chocolate bar.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent SSD for the price.

Pros: Price
High Sequential Read/Write performance
Reasonably IOPS and Random read/write
Size is sufficient to hold all programs.
RAID Support

Low power consumption

My fastest it has worked so far is around 300Mbps, coming off of an HDD RAID. Without the RAID, the HDDs do not come close to enough speed to even do that much, and working together they are still the bottleneck. They cannot touch this SSDs performance.

Cons: The biggest con of this drive is the storage size. It is reported as 240GB, but what you actually get is 223GB.

This tells us some important information. Mostly that the NAND used inside of this device is built on 25nm. In 25nm SSDs, the average size per individual NAND is 16GB each. Since 25nm wears down faster than larger NAND it has become common practice that one 16GB NAND is reserved and used instead as a backup should one NAND or part of a NAND fail. This helps to extend the life. some companies like Intel will give you an extra 16GB unit to make up for this and not hurt the actually size, but Team Group chooses not to.

Other Thoughts: This device makes use of a Phison PS3108-S8 controller chip. It is a cheap chip, but does well. In sequential tests, the chip does excellent beating some of the much more expensive units available and often being bottlenecked by the SATA 6Gbps connection. Where this chip falls short is the random input operations per second. While still being minimum of 15 times faster in this area than even the fastest HDD, its performance is rather mediocure compared to SSDs, falling somewhere short of the middle.

Despite the size reductions, this SSD is still excellent. It runs fast and provides great performance. In gaming it will perform fast, and so close to other SSDs I question if you will notice a difference between it and the highest end SSD. Only in random writes does it fall short, but that is only for small random writes which you will never notice unless you need to open or save more than 20 files in different locations simultaneously.

Its a great unit, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for their first real SSD.
