5 out of 5 eggsGood quality

Pros: This card reader is sturdy and well built. It comes with a 5.25" adapter, which is great if you don't have a spare 3.5" slot for it. Supports lots of formats, including SD-HC. Best of all, there is no power LED. The green LED only lights up when a card is inserted.

Cons: More expensive than others, but worth it.

Other Thoughts: Memory card reader has a Realtek chipset.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Happy

Pros: Very easy installation, comes with brackets and a faceplate so it can be mounted in either a 3.5" or 5.25" bay. Looks nice and clean in the computer. Does not keep drive letters occupied when not in use, and the light on the front only comes on when a card is inserted and active (turns off if you eject the removable disk in the OS).

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: The "activity" light is green, if that affects your computer aesthetics. Again, though, it is only lit when a card is in the drive.

There is a document included in packaging that says what brands/models of cards it supports, and it isn't all-inclusive. However, none of the cards I own are on the "supported cards" list but it reads them just fine. Not a con for me, but I suppose there's a chance it doesn't support the card you have and won't read it, either.

1 out of 5 eggsUseless

Pros: Easy installation. Fits in a 3.5" bay but comes with brackets and a faceplate to mount it in a 5.25" bay. No software, drivers, etc, to deal with, just plug and go.

Cons: What they don't tell you is that it only reads certain versions of the media cards. For example, it reads Toshiba M512MB xD cards, but not Olympus M512MB xD cards. It may or may not be compatible with the cards you have, and they don't tell you on the product description (or on their website) what the supported brands/models are for each type of media card.

It's like AT&T wireless coverage. It might be really good, but you never know when it won't be there when you need it.

Stay away from this card reader (unless you have the supported card info on hand and only use supported cards).

Other Thoughts: I checked HP's website to see if there was a driver or something so I could update the card reader and make it read the cards I own, but the only thing they have on HP's site is a product description. No support or software beyond what was included in the packaging.
