1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: It worked once

Cons: went to use it shortly after initial install and testing and it has never worked since; except, of course, the always on LED.

Other Thoughts: it's junk

This card reader is not found in Win XP or Win 7, Computer dosn't reconize it. Both computers have asus motherboards with 10 pin on board connectors. Starting to think this card is junk, will try in other computers then I will return it to you.

Support Response
Hello,

Make sure you are connecting it to the correct USB connection on the motherboard.
Monday, July 1 2013 1:02pm
my motherboard has 3 usb headers on it and they all work. i have 4 front panel usb ports that work with any of the headers, so if they work with them they should also work with the card reader. IT'S NOT BEING RECONIZED BY THE COMPUTER IN WIN XP NOR WIN 7

1 out of 5 eggsWell, it worked for a while...

Pros: Worked during the first week after some stupid mechanical issues described in original review

Cons: A bit more than a month later, I went to use it again, but it's dead as a stone, except for the always-on LED.

Other Thoughts: I've initiated contact with Inland (since it's over 30 days) and will follow up on how that works out. But it's not too early to change the rating to zero-effective, as this is already a solid "would never in a million years buy again if it were the last card reader in existence".

Pfui!

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: It arrived intact and on-time. It 'works', in the most literal definition of the word.

Cons: This this is USB2 in name only. Transfer speeds through both the CF and SD slots are absolutely dismal. The only upside is that it was 7 bucks at the time of purchase, so I didn't lose too much in the process... of course, that's also the downside- it's not really worth the time or effort to RMA the thing. In fact, it's not really worth the time I set aside to write this review, save to help other Newegg customers.

Other Thoughts: I would only add this: Newegg should really be pretty ashamed to stock such a shockingly awful piece of hardware. It's junk, and the salt in the wound is that it's not really worth RMAing so you just toss the thing and move on, $10 lighter for the experience. Pretty annoying.

3 out of 5 eggsCheap, poorly made

Pros: Micro SD card reader works - that's what I mostly needed it for. Full sized SD works, too. CF worked fine with one card, another (that had been working when it was put away a few years ago) gives "media not found" errors.

Cons: Cheap, cheap, cheap. The card slots are shallow and poorly fitted - you just have to push and hope it's just hard enough. The microSD slot in the very cost-engineered BeagleBoard Black is much much nicer than this one. Oh, and that should have been good CF card it knew was inserted but couldn't read.

The size problem is just total design stupidity. Yes, hard drives are spec'd as 4" wide, but that's the maximum, and they always have some rounding to the corners to help things get started. This one needed filing, both of the rear corners so I could get it started into the bay and then up front where the base modling didn't quite line up with the front, or maybe it was the ridge from the sonic (?) weld.

Other Thoughts: It's not total junk, but it is distinctly shoddy. Unfortunately, I have no reason to expect any other inexpensive readers are any better - the few I've seen in the flesh weren't. Come to think of it, the better made ones date back to the days of the original SD cards, and have never worked with later, higher capacity cards. They call that progress?
