5 out of 5 eggsTook the plunge

Pros: Fast write/read speeds
Low Power Consumption (you can just set it to turn off after 1 min. of non usage)
Silent - My laptop is absolutely noiseless for the first 15 min of operation..then my cpu fan kicks in -_-

Cons: expensive...ssds have yet to mature and i paid dearly for 30 GB...(the actual value comes out to be 28.1GB...a little bit better than the convention loss for a platter based hd)

Other Thoughts: ...i bring my laptop to school every day...and naturally my backpack gets pretty beat up ... so its nice not having to worry about how you are handing your laptop...i kinda am in the habit of tossing it onto my bed now =)

newegg rocks..as usual

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent price point, blazingly fast read times

Cons: Reliability, average write speeds.

Other Thoughts: Danger, Will Robinson! 1-year warranty unlike the 3-year warranty offered on every other one of their SSDs.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked great for 6 days - then died

Pros: Fast solid state storage
Reasonable priced for what you get

Cons: Died after 6 days
No Refunds on this item
Will be exchanging for another and try again

Other Thoughts: When it died, the drive name changed from SuperTalent (30GB) to JMicron (4GB) after 6 days and is no longer usable. I've tried it in a couple of machines to no avail. Perhaps the replacement drive will be better. I'm stuck with the product with the 30 day replacement only policy, so hopefully the replacement will work longer...

3 out of 5 eggsFast and nice, but not matured yet

Pros: Faster than HDD, More fault tolerance, Cheaper (compared to SLC SSDs)

Cons: Multilevel (MLC) less reliable

Other Thoughts: SSD technology not matured yet; not to mention MLC may be cheaper, but the lower reliability is not worth it. I was able to install an OS, updates, configurate it, and then it I lose 85% of the space as in I lose all my stuff. I think I'll let the technology mature and you should too.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: PRICE(compared to the rest of the Solid State market)

Boots in under a minute
Shuts down in 10 seconds!
Battery life +30 minutes in my Asus M50Sv

Cons: Low space
Probably shorter life expectancy

Other Thoughts: I did a clean install of Vista Business x64 bit and had 8gb of space left. Prepare to run most of your programs and anything else off a different drive. With my laptop I just use eSATA.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Inpensive SATA (MLC)

Pros: Measured 90MB/sec read and 25MB/sec write. XPProSp2 formatted NTFS - CrystalDiskMark2.1 ratings are Seq=94.3(r) 27.9(w), 512k=89.5(r) 25.3(w), 4k=11.3(r) 2.0(w). Very competitive 30GB price at Newegg. The GB/$ ratio on 60GB, 120GB model improves. A typically light, low power, rugged SSD drive. Attractive and solid 2.5 inch SATA drive chassis.

Cons: Multi-Level (MLC) vs Single-Level Cell (SLC) technology. Lower life expectancy (10k vs 100k block write cycles) reflected in 1 year warranty. The MLC fast write speed (25MB/sec) implies dynamic, but no static (not sure), write leveling as trade-off.

Other Thoughts: Maybe the fastest, least expensive, 2.5in SATA SSD drive currently available (changes weekly). The MLC design with fast writes (25MB/sec) is a breakthrough with the competitive price. Planning to keep about 2-3GB free space to improve lifetime under dynamic (only) write leveling.
