Sorry about dropping your laptop, but you've got a solid state hard drive, right? It should be okay. No? Oops, my mistake.

Rated for shocks up to 1500 Gs, this 120 GB drive is almost half as tough as an airplane's "black box" (3400 Gs), is light weight and takes little power to run. With one million hours mean time between failures (MTBF), your drive and your data might outlive you. And the SATA II interface and standard form factor make retrofitting this drive a breeze. Your computer will never notice the difference, but you probably will. But laptops are not the only computers to gain: any rugged environment, or any place you need an absolutely silent drive will benefit.

So you take your time and make the right decision. And when you do, we'll be right here, ready to help.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Acting without any moving parts, the Super Talent FTM20GK25H solid state drive (SSD) boasts multiple advanced features including zero mechanical noise, faster data rates compared to conventional HDDs, over 1-million-hour life span, ultra-low power consumption and impressive shock, vibration and extreme temperature resistance. With these breakthrough capabilities, the SSD meets all the demanding requirements for high-performance mobile computing.
  • newegg 2.5" Form Factor The Super Talent FTM20GK25H solid state drive is specifically designed for notebook computers equipped with a 2.5" SATA drive bay.
  • newegg SATA 3.0 Gb/s Interface The Super Talent FTM20GK25H solid state drive features the next-generation SATA II interface supporting up to 3.0 Gb/s data transfer rates, Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and hot-pluggable point-to-point connections for optimum performance, efficiency, convenience and flexibility.

4 out of 5 eggsBest MLC SSD Available

Pros: Extremely fast reads > 100Gb/s
Decent write speed ~20-40Gb/s
Seek time is almost non-existent
Quiet and relatively free from hot spots
No compatibility issues in my testing on very new AMD Puma platform (contrasted with OCZ which, so far, has not worked in my system)

Cons: Write speed is worse that a high quality spinning laptop drive
No improvement in battery life = its eating as much power as a hard drive

Other Thoughts: I have tried both this and the OCZ. The Super Talent was trouble-free, though it is critical to update all your drivers and bios. If working in Vista, you MUST update to SP1 and apply all MS updates - very important as earlier Vista had major issues with SSDs in general. My OCZ is still not working right (working with support there) on the same system, so I would recommend the Super Talent over the OCZ unless you are sure your system is compatible with OCZ.

2 out of 5 eggsStay Away...

Pros: When it works, it worked great. Notebook was eerily silent without HD seeks.

Cons: Heat. It runs quite a bit hotter than a normal 2.5" drive. After 4.5 weeks the drive is non-functional. Recognized by windows, but cannot initialize or format due to an I/O device error.

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend to stay away. Until this happened, I was considering purchasing 2-3 more of them. However, now I have to try to get an RMA from Super Talent since newegg won't RMA it due to it being past 30 days. Drive appears to have a history of dying shortly after 30 days from reading past reviews.

5 out of 5 eggsOver-hyped technology...

Pros: Talking solid-state drives in general, they'll great in laptops. Use less power, generate less heat and so on.

Cons: Lots of people think these are faster than normal mechanical hard drives and put them in their desktop computers. Sorry to say, solid-state is not faster then 2 10k hard drives in raid 0. That's only 2, with raid you can add a lot more than 2 which blows these drives out of the water.

Other Thoughts: 2 10k drives in raid 0 are much cheaper than any SSD really and honestly, SSD technology is still pretty new and is not as dependable as normal mechanical hard drives.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked great when it worked

Pros: After using this for 5 weeks, I don't think I can go back to a hard drive.

Cons: it died after 5 weeks. But, I'm hoping it is a fluke with the early batches and hope that the replacement will last longer. Thank you NewEgg for RMAing the unit even though it was over the 1 month RMA period!

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Talent FTM20GK25H 120GB

Pros: For SSD, the greatest bank-for-the-buck. Performance is excellent considering other SSD manufacturers with similar capacity are upwards of $3,000. Vista Ultimate installed in ten minutes. Considerably faster than my Seagate Momentus 7200.2 200GB laptop hard drive. Boot-up times appear to be a bit faster. Office applications such as Word and Excel open up faster. However, I am concerned about the longevity/reliability of this drive considering the few bad experiences exhibited herein. Let’s keep our fingers crossed…

Cons: Its not an Mtron

3 out of 5 eggsGreat until it died...

Pros: Read speeds were fast and slower write speeds, compared to other SSD technologies, were not a hinderance at all.

It was great until it died after about 3 weeks of use...

Cons: Stopped working after about 3 weeks... Will have to RMA and hope the next one will work for longer.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Drive

Pros: I put this drive in one of my older laptops and it's fast. I bought at the beginning of May and I've had no problems with it. Level loading times on games are pretty good. I haven't had any problems with this drive. I own the 32 gb Supertalent SSD and I've had that drive for over half a year and I haven't had any problems with it.

Cons: Wish it used SLC instead of the slow MLC flash.

Other Thoughts: I don't know why people are having problems with this drive. Maybe they should turn off the page file in Windows.

1 out of 5 eggsDied during a file transfer in first week of operation

Pros: None that I can think of

Cons: The drive died after a few days. BIOS still recognizes it, but after a > 10 minute wait with disk light on, the drive refuses to be accessed. This is the 2nd SUPER TALENT FTM series SSD to fail after only a few days usage.

Other Thoughts: Buy another brand. This SuperTalent is the worst!!! I tried the 32GB first, thought when It died, it was a fluke, then this 120GB drive died too. I'm going with SAMSUNG 64GB now for $799. Guess you get what you pay for...

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Drive is faster than a 7200 hard drive

Cons: drive is a piece of junk.1 drive lasted 1 day, sent it back and another drive, that one also failed in 2 days. Please think twice, about this,it will cost you money!

Other Thoughts: newegg as always the best in customer service, and in shipping time.I always recommend them..but skip this drive!

1 out of 5 eggsOuch

Pros: It's pretty fast, does what it's supposed to really well, until it breaks.

Cons: Died within a month. Lots of people seem to have this issue. Oh well, too good to be true.

Other Thoughts: If this was reliable, it would be a great product.
