5 out of 5 eggsReview Update

Pros: Performance is now as expected.

Cons: None, now.

Other Thoughts: This review is an update to the review I posted on 5/08, which was based on my out-of-the-box performance experience.
I later found out that I needed to perform an alignment on the SSD in order to get optimal performance.
Since I have done that, the performance pretty much equals or exceeds that of the original hard drive.
Google "OCZ SSD alignment" for more information.
Note: This is my experience, YMMV.

2 out of 5 eggsNot what I expected!

Pros: None, for my purposes.

Cons: See other thoughts below:

Other Thoughts: It's too bad most other reviewers don't list what computer they installed this on.
I installed it on an Asus EEE PC 1000H and the results were totally undesirable. It is fairly quick on small files, but devistatingly slow on large files.
I have to say in all honesty I think the problem is my 1000H has the low power atom processor which most likely puts linits on the performance.
I don't have another computer with a 2.5" sata drive to test it in so I can't really say with any certainty.
I have now reverted back to the original hard drive.

I did install a Super Talent 90/55 mini pcie ssd in my EEE PC 900 and that thing is blazing fast, so I see no reason why this drive wouldn't work well in a higher power computer.

Bottom line, don't buy this for a netbook with an atom processor.

For my purposes, I can only give this ssd 2 eggs, sorry.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product so far...

Pros: Fast Reads
140ish reads avg
Decent writes
80ish writes avg

With the update that was released on 3/20 by supertalent, and using windows 7 build 7100, i have not noticed any stutter.
restarts my laptop in 1 min and like 20 seconds, and probably 10 or 15 seconds is just switching from the thinkvantage load screen to windows loading screen.

technically windows 7 loads in like 45 seconds.

this is a huge difference from a 5400 rpm hdd to an ssd,

Cons: The heat generation is about the same as a 5400rpm hdd, well from my perspective.

update the firmware before u install anything on the hard drive. the firmware update will removed all data.

the firmware update is kinda hard if u don't know how to boot from a usb. but google is your friend.

Other Thoughts: This is my first ssd, i was hoping to experience a stutter because i was curious what it was, but...... i didn't notice any with windows 7.

I ran anti-virus scans, mas instant messaging, and etc, i didn't really notice it.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid purchase

Pros: - Much faster than platter drives
- Prices and performance are improving weekly

Cons: - Drive will slow down the more data you add to it, most poeple refer to it as it ages (I've had mine for three months and can tell a difference)
- Too expensive right now

Other Thoughts: I have two of these in RAID, there was no apparent speed increase just an increase in storage size (needed due to 64 gigs by itself is on the small side).

Do research on the two types of SSDs to get a better understanding of the technology. This will make you a better consumer and what you will expect from the drive.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Good

Pros: Don’t plan to boot your Vista in 3 seconds, its not going to happen. I had a 120 GB 7200 drive, so it was already fast. This unit is a bit faster, but is much lighter, with a bit less energy consumption.

Cons: The price is still high.

Other Thoughts: Despite been a bit pricy HD, I would recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth the MTBF and drop security

Pros: MTBF is outstanding for laptop or netbook usage. Reads from the disk are a little faster than a HQ 7200rpm drive.

Cons: Write's are about as slow as a 5200rpm drive.

Other Thoughts: I put this in a new Lenovo S10. did not even fire up the HDD it came with. I imaged the old one, coppied it to the new one, Partitioned down the hidden drive to 4gb. When I Fired it up I did all the updates and then Changed the partition into a NTFS.

It is very fast and responsive when using reads and small writes, as in documents. Installing programs and updates can take a bit of time due to the slow writes.

5 out of 5 eggsSSD virgin is very happy

Pros: Installation was perfect. speed is amazing. battery life is increased. Silent. Laptop runs cooler now.

Cons: cost per Gig but that keeps getting better all the time.

Other Thoughts: I can't wait for prices to drop a bit more so I can get an SSD in ALL MY COMPUTERS. These things are great.

2 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk. Don't buy

Pros: Fast speed...Sometime
Low power consumption...Not much to offset higher cost
Resistant to drop...If you drop your laptop regularly then you're manhandling your toys.

Cons: Expensive...Very
Not very reliable...hence my low rating

Other Thoughts: This thing is a piece of junk. It didn't yield much speed improvement despite numerous optimization i did to win xp. Failed and died on me on the 31st day of uses. How convenient. No RMA for me nor replacement. Now having to deal with manufacturer repair for something i don't know how long will last till it die again.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking great for me!

Pros: I installed this drive in a Sony VAIO laptop dual-booting XP and Linux with great results. Boot and shutdown times dropped noticeably, and larger programs open much faster.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Some VAIO laptops suffer from noisy fans (my only complaint). The drive has helped the fan noise by running cooler. I have not tested battery life yet, but expect to see an improvement there as well. I can't wait until the prices for SSD's drop and capacities go up. I'll definitely be using more of them.

5 out of 5 eggsSo Far So Good

Pros: Cheaper than just 3 months ago.
Speedy.
No noise.

Cons: No obvious battery life improvement.
64 a little small for Vista.

Other Thoughts: Since similar Super Talent drives were selling for $6-800 just a few months ago, spending $149 on this seemed unreal. But after installing and playing with a drive, I was assured that the spec is fairly legit and this drive is not some water down version of earlier drives -- just the technology is dropping in cost and fairly quickly.

The drive makes no noise so now the only sound the computer makes comes from the fan.

Startup and shutdown are fairly speedy. On a Thinkpad X200 2.4, uisng system restore, I was able to get Vista Business installed within about 1 hour (could have been faster if I actually read the instructions and follow the steps). Vista Business is ready to go from the time I press the power button to opening apps takes about 1 min and 24 seconds (stopping only for me to type in login password). Shut down takes just 7 seconds. MS Office apps will open and be ready within 5 seconds after launch. So far I have not perceived any bottle-necks.
