5 out of 5 eggswrite here, write now

Pros: looks pretty sweet. biggest one here so far..

Cons: why is it only 500GB? didn't somebody figure out how to encode data streams into DNA? or am i just confused? :)

Other Thoughts: remember how annoying cd based video game systems were with that stupid cd load screen, but how bond and mario cart dominated on the 64's cartridge system. pretty much the same thing here. i indicated a somewhat high understanding in the tech knowledge, which might be overrated to some of you folks, but i do get this one. it's only a matter of time before these take over. unless the get that DNA thing figured out. i heard they said it was messy.

3 out of 5 eggsFlash is the future

Pros: Solid State of course

Cons: Price. Five eggs when it gets down to $ three figures.. may be next year :)

Other Thoughts: Out with spinning plates, in with solid state. Every tech geek knows solid state/flash storage is the future. Someday our drives will be like our RAM. I want this baby, definitely, but I guess I'll wait af ew more yrs to go solid state, then maybe get a 2 or 3 TB solid state drive for a couple of hundred bucks, lol.... hey their capacity limit is already up to a quarter of the limit for spinning drives, not bad, and i guess thir price will drop as well in time... so.... just a lil patience.... :)

4 out of 5 eggsOne must READ the spec

Pros: Excellent speed, easy to format, fast seek time.

Cons: Not a laptop drive. NOT A LAPTOP DRIVE

Other Thoughts: I don't know the rep of the system manufacturer of this drive, but I had the opportunity to put one in a system, throw a few things at it, and see what happened. I've got a system running heavy hard drive seek times and checked it for temperatures.

The only thing I can really say is, "Read the specification before buying something." As many others have noted, the Techno reviewer below seems to be basing his assumption on the fact that it didn't make it into his laptop case. READ THE SPECIFICATION. If a drive isn't a normal-sized laptop hard drive, it's entirely possible that the drive isn't going to fit into the case.

Hard drive seek times from the old hard drive clone in a firewire case were marvelous - the old one basically coughed and gave it up as quickly as possible.

The new one went in, and the phrase of the day is "smokin' fast".

The one thing I would like to see, however, is a bit more magnetic shielding on the cases to protect from all sorts of radiation bits, e

5 out of 5 eggsHard drive is king.

Pros: If you can afford two of these monsters you're in for a surprise. Set this up with an i7, DDR3, and the latest from nVidia...and it will be like you've traveled into the future.

Unfortunately most people don't have that much cash.

Cons: It's expensive...but it's cutting edge. I can't wait until building based on this technology is the standard.

Other Thoughts: Imagine how small hard drives will be some day.

I may be wrong...but I expect to see fully functional computers rocking from wrist watches. Functional by our standards any way...the people of the future might see them as low end.

As for ol' Techno down there. Don't base your decision on that poor guy's review. He will look up from his death bed and admit failure one day.

4 out of 5 eggsSSHD - Cheaper than a new computer

Pros: With few exceptions, the HD is the bottleneck that slows everything down. And it just gets WORSE the more you fill it up (that's why a new computer feels so much faster -- for about an hour). Furthermore, drives break with shocking frequency. No more! SSDs rock. Get one. That's all I know about teknoligy, and I learned it from a half-man, half-monkey with a drinking problem, but I chose 5 - *High Understanding* after reading Techno's review. Poor dummy rates himself a 4 for know-how, then gives the drive a 1 EGG rating. Better to give the SSD 4 EGGS and the rocket scientist with a need for speed and money to burn the 1. I'm sorry that the SSD only gets 4 EGGS, and I'm sorry for the awful joke: the other egg's all over Techno's face.

Cons: Confusing to dummies. Can't you do something about that?

Other Thoughts: I magnanimously offer to buy Techno's paperweight at an insultingly low price.

5 out of 5 eggs@ Techno

Pros: For Mr. Techno, who apparently doesn't understand how to read a spec sheet. Why didn't you read the specifications on the drive before buying it? It clearly lists the physical dimensions, so you could check compatibility with your notebook. Duh. Secondly, you're judging the speed of this SSD, based on copying data from your old drive? And you really expected to see 100+ MB/s?? Are you that naive? You are limited by the read speed on your old drive!!! Your technical understanding should be changed to "low".

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: It amazes me how clueless some people are.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not perform as advertised

Pros: None over my original Hitachi 320GB HDD except for capacity.

Cons: Runs hotter, will not fit in my laptop, non-returnable item, no noticable speed increase over my original HDD.

Other Thoughts: Tried in my HP HDX18 notebook. Could not put the bottom cover back on because the SSD was too big. Tested it without the cover being properly installed. Drive was recognized and I formatted it. Tried copying some backup images from my previous drive (not a restore, just copying the files. 3 files about 30GB each.) Then tried copying several other files of smaller size. Sustained speed never got close to 100MB per second. My original drive did writes just as fast as this did. $1575 paper weight.

5 out of 5 eggsPerforms as Advertised

Pros: Very fast and very high capacity. Windows Vista reports 481 GB (or 516 billion bytes). We were able to obtain 160 MB/sec sequential writes and 217 MB/sec sequential reads. Our application requires high-speed sequential writes for high-resolution image archival. This drive more than meets our needs.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Although the price may seem high, we are able to save over 80k USD per imaging system by using two of these drives instead of our previous solution.
