Good speed
- Pros: Fantastic IOPS performance. Cheap performance for web server VMs compared to SAS RAID or SLC drives. No disk thrashing makes allocating storage for virtual machines simple. Only a little over 2W power draw. Doesn't get hot.
- Cons: None so far. Performance for SSD drives is supposed to degrade with time, though I haven't noticed in only 3 months. Write amplification MIGHT cause it to have to be replaced more often than SAS drives. No TRIM command (though Linux doesn't yet support it anyway).
- Other Thoughts: Installed in a socket 1366 server with 12 GB RAM for running 5 Linux virtual machine web servers. Each VM has 20 GB including its own database storage. The VMs are 90% read-only, so performance is outstanding. For this application, I don't think SAS drives could compete, and it's a good deal cheaper than SLC drives.
Windows 7 Experience Index to 7.3
- Pros: installed win7 64bit in less then 30 minutes, & compliments my quad core toe to toe. installed without a hitch. my asus mobo bios recognize it immediately.
man! i'm gonna get another one!
- Cons: does not come with cable or any instructions.
dangerously tempting to spend more & get another one.
- Other Thoughts: now i'm gonna have to upgrade the sony vaio laptop too.
WOW Factor
- Pros: There is a WOW Factor! Installed in a Octo 2.8 MacPro went from 75MB/s to over 200MB/s - makes things snappy. Installed Snow Leopard and other apps. Just rips thru everything you throw at it. No problems at all...
- Cons: None, only wish I could afford to buy enough for a large raid.
- Other Thoughts: If your in a high-end work environment where performance counts with stability buy this drive. Its stable and very fast.
