4 out of 5 eggsCard Reader

Pros: Well made
Slide out covers to protect cards and USB ends

Cons: Size (IT'S WIDE!!)

Other Thoughts: This is a well made card reader that works very well. Only 1 MAJOR problem... it is big! I use a short extension cable (6") to plug it in and it isn't a problem.... Without an extension you are very limited to where you can plug this in. Other than size this is a GREAT card reader.

5 out of 5 eggsNoticeable Speed Difference

Pros: SDXC & uSDXC (64GB & higher) compatible.

Cons: The width may interfere with adjacent slots. Only alternative is to have SD card stick out the side which is even wider.
Activity light is not viewable. (see Other thoughts below).

Other Thoughts: Kingston says there is no activity light. There is one, they just didn't provide a hole in the case to view it. If you look carefully into the card end you can see the blue light. The notch on the side that says "MobileLite G3" is where the activity light could be viewed if a hole had been cut into the slider part on the plug end. I cut a slot to match & now the light is viewable.

The width is not a problem if you have a circular USB 3.0 hub or a rectangular one where all the ports are not in a row and/or not close together. I have a Rosewill circular hub for the desktop & a small Hootoo with 2 ports on 2 sides that are spaced far enough apart to not interfere with each other.

4 out of 5 eggsmy thoughts.

Pros: -dual slots make a difference
-legit usb 3.0 speeds
-kingston warranty and support is superb

Cons: -bulky, girth wise
-makes this odd creak/rattle noise giving it a cheap plastic feeling

Other Thoughts: it is a durable piece of equipment despite the sound mentioned earlier.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome

Pros: was thinking about getting a card reader 3.5 inch bay drive, but this is just so much easier and reads all the cards you could need, and usb 3, and cheaper

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsBest card reader

Pros: Takes SD and microSD cards natively. You can use microSD to SD adapters, but you don't have to. Both cards are mounted in OS at the same time, but you can only boot from the SD slot.

USB3.0 isn't a massive speed boost, but when reading from both cards the bandwidth can help. Works in Windows, Linux, and on my TV. Probably compatible with OSX and other stuff.

Cons: Some people will want CompactFlash. I'm not one of them, but CF seems to be the only other card in use today.

Other Thoughts: Why spend more for an internal card reader, when you can get the cards you USE in a pocketable device?

I have a handful of 2GB microSD cards from tablets and whatnot. I've loaded various bootable utilities to them, so I have a spindle of CDs in my pocket.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, does the job

Pros: USB 3 speeds as advertised, no issues with Win 7x64.

Cons: None for me.

Other Thoughts: I think, it could be more useful if made slimmer without bulky movable parts.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Reader

Pros: Fast read and write speeds with good SD and MicroSD cards. Simple, but clever design protects the connector and the reader slots.

Cons: The boxy design blocks ports it the ports are stacked. It would be nice if it included a short (3 inches would suffice) extension cable that allowed it to just use a single USB port.
The activity light is a bit too recessed and hard to see.

Other Thoughts: This reader on a USB 3.0 port has let me easily determine which of my SD & MicroSD (plus HC and XC variants) have slow read and more importantly slow write speeds.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: Price

Cons: Slower than my USB2 card reader

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer our assistance. The card reader does not have any particular speed ratings and the transfer speeds are largely dependent on the flash memory card connected to the reader. The reader is compliant to USB 3.0 specifications and backwards compatible with USB 2.0, performance may differ depending on which one it is connected. We do stand by our products and can troubleshoot with you to resolve issues with the product or if faulty it can be replaced under it's warranty. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.
