3 out of 5 eggsDecent but not too exiting!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Relatively cheap, medium SSD performance.

Cons: For this price I didn't expect a 3.5" to 2.5" caddy. However, this is the first SSD I have bought that came without ANY screws. Luckily I had built a small stockpile of these tiny guys from previous caddy/SSD purchases. But the Kingston used up all 8 of my spare screws. Very annoying indeed!

Other Thoughts: I bought a 240 Gig OCZ SSD earlier this month to upgrade a laptop's 320Gig 2.5" 5200 RPM Seagate hard disk for $91 (net). Now wish I had bought 2 of these as it came with a metal caddy and PLENTY of screws.

4 out of 5 eggsFirmware Problem Fixed

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast reliable drive until the 6xxx firmware came out. It was still fast but would not start on a reboot or warm boot on Dell Latitude e6320 and e6410. Got a call from Kingston tech support on 5/27/15 that a new version of the firmware has fixed the problem.

Cons: No cons now.

Other Thoughts: I have not tried the new firmware but I downgraded to version 5 (580) and it fixed the issue. I had to find the downgrade myself as Kingston support doesn't admit that one exists. Search for "600ABBF0 has a bug" video review. Comment has a l i n k.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Cheap. Super Fast.

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: SSDs are so cheap now they are a MUST have!
Just Install you O/S on the Drive and use your current HDD for everything else. Computer runs 10x faster and boot up is near INSTANT!

Cons: Not really any at the moment. cheap and gets the job done. I know these do fail over time, if anything does happen ill be sure to let you guys know. Their are faster ones but this is good enough for the general budget upgrade!

2 out of 5 eggsAlright While it Lasted

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cheap
Faster than a 7200RPM HDD

Cons: Lasted only 6 months
Not as fast as other SDD's

Other Thoughts: You get what you paid for. I got one to use as my boot drive for my first PC build around Black Friday. It loaded up quickly and worked just fine until Windows gave me a notification last night that it was gonna fail soon. Replaced it with a Crucial MX100 which is noticeably faster and will hopefully last longer than half a year.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Joshua,
We apologize for the inconsistency experienced with the V300 drive. The SSD should typically last much longer than what you have experienced. We warranty our drives for three years from the date of purchase and can replace it for you. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and a technician will assist you.

Thank you for using the V300,
-Jewel, Kingston US Technical Support

4 out of 5 eggspretty good

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, install of OS and all BIOS was quick. Startup time of computer is very quick.

Cons: Size gets used pretty quick. Make sure you only use this for the OS and programs and use a separate TB or more HD for pics movies and stuff. Also for some reason after about 3 months I turned off all power to my computer (unplugged from wall) and unplugged this SSD and plugged it back in and plugged the power back up and it blue screened on my forcing me to reinstall all the programs and OS which sucked but now it all works again

Cons: no toaster
no the fastest drive, but major improvement over hdd

Other Thoughts: upgraded my core i7 laptop with this. I wish I had done this first.

it is by far the best upgrade you can do in a PC. boot time : 12 seconds to lock screen.

very happy and will buy a second for laptop (core i5, gt635m)

2 out of 5 eggsWorked wonders, until it didn't

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I was actually very satisfied with this device, for its price it operated smoothly, swiftly, and efficiently with no hassle for setup. Startup times for my computer never climbed higher than 20 seconds from pressing the button to using the computer.

Cons: It died after a few months without warning.

Other Thoughts: I have already submitted an RMA to kingston, so we will see how good their customer support is, but this was a disappointing punctuation to an otherwise splendid product.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Patrick,
We apologize for the inconsistency experienced with the V300 drive. If you have not recieved your RMA instructions yet, please contact us directly at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and we will get the ball rolling for you.

Thank you for using the V300,
