1 out of 5 eggsBAD BAD BAD SSD, never worked

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: None.....

Cons: It never worked upon arrival, I plug into 3 different desktops and non of the mother board can detect the SSD in BIO. I run to a tech shop nearby and tested on another 2 of their test computers and still wont work. Was told the item was defected, DON'T SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS SSD..... IT WORTH NOTHING

Other Thoughts: first time I give a shot for Kingston product, it really disappointed me. FYI, Newegg does not accept a return RMA on this product due to its poor quality.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Owen,
I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the V300 drive. We perform 100% testing on all of our products to ensure quality and reliability, detailed here: http://www.kingston.com/us/company/testing
Although with all electronic components there is a small chance of failure. While I cannot confirm your assertion of Newegg's return policy, some retailers may not accept returns of open-box electronic components. Regardless of that, we do warranty all our products and can replace the drive under it's three year warranty. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

4 out of 5 eggsfair

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: cheap, 223Gb after format, great for every day use.

Cons: not the fastest and greatest. not for gamers.

Other Thoughts: was a bit funky during windows install thought the install and windows after initial use was acting kind of strange and misbehaving but after all said and done i've checked the crystaldiskinfo it said all is normal so all is good for me i guess i'll pray i get my money's worth before this thing fails.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I got this, put it in, installed Windows 8.1, and here I am. This cut my boot time from around 30 seconds to, at its best, 4 seconds. Everything feels much faster and more reliable. Turned an i3 system to feel like an i7, (kinda). This paired with 8 gigabytes of extra ram are perfect for my laptop.

Cons: absolutely none!!

Other Thoughts: Highly recommend for laptop usage.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Fast, Very Pleased!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Easy to install. Power from your PSU and a SATA 6bps cord and that's it.

Cons: No instructions after the product is installed. With my MSI Z77a-G45 Motherboard I was lucky after the install it was in ADHI mode already. It wasn't fun trying to find out this information. There should be instructions on the first few steps instead of Googling links and videos.

Other Thoughts: Compared to a regular Western Digital 500G HDD it took almost 3 minutes for Windows to boot completely up.

Now it takes Windows a total of 7 seconds to boot (Windows 7/64).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Budget SSD for everyone

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: -Its a SSD
-3 year warranty
-it is 7MM thick so it can fit into slim laptops/ultrabooks but comes with a spacer so it can fit in 9MM slots if your worried about the extra space.
-its 240 GB SSD for only $100
-1 million hours MTBF (mean time between failure) - for home users, this is more than the expected life of your whole computer.

Cons: -You know you are not buying the fastest SSD so its slightly lower speed is not a con.
-I only had one of these drives arrive DOA out of about 25 or so that I installed so far.

Other Thoughts: This is a great budget SSD. Compared to a mechanical hard drive, any SSD feels super fast. You will not be able to tell the difference between this budget SSD and a Samsung 850 Pro in the real world, only in benchmarks. (Rapid Mode, of course, is different) Unless you want to have bragging rights that you have this part or that part, just upgrading from a mechanical to ANY CURRENT GENERATION SSD, you are going to be getting pretty much the fastest performance you can FEEL. Yes, the best SSDs can give you 550MBps and 100,000 IOPS while this one is only 450 MBps and 85k read / 45k write but 99% of all people will not notice the difference (seriously, the real world difference is only a few seconds under the Perfect conditions. Most of the time, the difference is practically nothing). Spend the extra money that you save to get you more RAM!!

If your on a budget and want a super-effective upgrade to your computer, this is the one to buy.

Don't forget to buy a 2.5' to 3.5' adapter (buy a metal one, plastic sucks) if it is going into a desktop, if you need it.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks OK for the Price

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It's not the fastest as can be seen in plenty of other reviews. It's not terribly slow either considering I paid $85 for it. I've owned faster (Intel 520) but I'm not disappointed.

Installed in a Mid 2012 13" MBP. 212 MB/s writes and 463 MB/s reads in OS X 10.10.1 using BlackMagic. Swapped drives and restored from time machine backup, haven't done any kind of tweaking so those are out of the box speeds.

Cons: None, I docked an egg just because the advertised performance isn't the same as what you get. That doesn't mean it's unacceptable performance, just that Kingston should put what you're getting on the tin, not some hyped inaccurate specs.

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend this SSD for sub-$100 and 240GB, it's really not bad performance wise. We shall see how well it holds up.
