2 out of 5 eggsDead After 12 Months

Pros: Worked great while it lasted. More than enough space for Linux/Ubuntu of course.

Cons: Dead after 12 months.

Surprisingly, this actually worked well for a while. I had a separate OS of Ubuntu running on this in a Win 8.1 tower, but did not use it everyday. Anecdotally, I have read that constant use of SSDs is some what of a requirement in order to keep them working. When they do work, they also seem to last darned near forever as other tests have shown. In my case of limited use, this drive died after about 12 months.

No additional wiping (writing 0's, etc.) of the driver was ever performed other than original "Format Drive," rather than a quick format, option during installation of Ubuntu 14.04 originally.

Other Thoughts: I cannot speak for other Kingston drives, as I actually own another one that works great and is older, but this one was a dud.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product, Great Price

Pros: Speed, quiet, Acronis clone software

Cons: None, at the moment

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a HDD for my 5 yr old desktop (desktop built from parts I bought from Newegg - Intel Core2 duo, 8 GB RAM, Win 7). My o/s HDD was the only bottleneck, and I was waiting for price points on SSD to drop before I bought one.

Immediate and more surprising than expected boost in performance. Reboot/Shutdown times are in the 10-15 second range. MS Office & Adobe Acrobat/Dreamweaver/Fireworks open in under a second. My bottleneck now is my SATA HDD data drives configured in RAID1.

The Acronis Clone Software worked without a hitch, copying my old o/s drive to the new SSD. Booted to the Acronis CD, went through the wizard, cloned HDD to SSD, and booted to SSD no problem. Everything worked.

The one question I had during the Acronis Clone process was: the Acronis software noted my new SSD as the 'G:\' drive (as opposed to C:\)... would my new SSD o/s drive be setup as 'G:\' when I boot to it? After running the Acronis Clone, and changing the boot order in BIOS to the new SSD, it shows up as 'C:\' in WIn7.

No hardware compatibility issues, no data corruption issues (again, most data is on separate RAID1). The installation + Acronis Clone took about an hour to run.

My MOBO only supports up to SATA II (again, a 5 year old DIY desktop) but no issues & the performance increase is more than expected.

5 out of 5 eggs1st SSD...WOW

Pros: FAST. Quiet. Breathes new life into older machines.

Cons: SSD cost vs platter drives.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for a refurbished Thinkpad T60P and now the laptop runs so well it gets used more than my new I5 Samsung. It really makes that much a difference.

5 out of 5 eggsFast & quiet

Pros: I got this for $100 on sale on a few weeks ago. It is much smaller, faster, and quieter than a normal hard drive. Supposedly these drives get slower with time, I will update my review if that happens.

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless Warranty

Pros: none

Cons: warranty - or rather, the lack of

Other Thoughts: Warranty is pretty worthless. They expect you to wait 4-5 weeks for a replacement as they are out of stock, and don't expect any stock for several more weeks.

Last Kingston product I will ever buy.

Manufacturer Response:

I am sorry for the issue you have experience as well as any misunderstanding there might have been. I spoke with the Manager of our Warranty Department and was informed that this model drive is on back order with a lead time of 7-10 days not 4-5 weeks.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

5 out of 5 eggsHigh quality and Fast!

Pros: This SSD like all Kingston products is high quality in look and feel and also has very good performance. I'd say it's better quality than a Samsung ssd and is very fast. The included accessories are nice too.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I got this desktop installation kit version but needed the drive more in my older model Dell laptop than my already ssd having desktop. I needed to run the Dell onboard diagnostics utility before the bios would see the hard drive but after that it was smooth sailing installing Win 7.
