Made for real speed demons, the Asus ROG RAIDR Express PCI-E SSD brings your gaming experience to a brand-new level with really, really fast disk performance. Built on the latest Toshiba 19nm 16k page NAND flash, and powered by dual LSI SandForce SF-2281 controllers, it delivers sequential read/write speed 830/810MBps and up to 100,000 4K read/write IOPS, allowing lightning fast app launches and ultra smooth system responsiveness. The ROG RAMDisk further pushes the envelope with over 12,000MBps by using the computer RAM as a high speed virtual drive.

The ASUS ROG RAIDR Express comes with user-friendly DuoMode that contains two BIOS chipset to, for the first time in the world, support both legacy and UEFI motherboard. An array of exclusive ROG features, like ROG SSD TweakIt, HybridDisk, Secure Erase and ROG CrystalDiskMark maintains the high speed you expect, while extending the drive’s life. This SSD is equipped with professional-looking double-sided metal shielding for better protection and heat dissipation. And paired with aggressive ROG logo and red color accent, the ASUS ROG RAIDR Express is fantastic for your gaming power house, where the power is on or off.

  • newegg DuoMode - First legacy and UEFI BIOS-compatible PCIe SSD RAIDR Express is the world’s first and only PCIe-based SSD that features two BIOS chips and an onboard hardware flip switch, letting you alternate between legacy and UEFI modes, ensuring the best compatibility. In legacy mode, the RAIDR Express can be used on older motherboards — those with traditional (non-UEFI) BIOS. Flip to UEFI mode, and you can significantly boost the startup time of your PC. You get the flexibility of choosing which mode is right for you, and make the best of both.
  • newegg Driver-free design with complete TRIM support With an Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI), RAIDR Express doesn’t require any drivers – so you can experience the incredible speed benefits from the moment you plug it in. RAIDR Express also features support for TRIM command from within the operating system – support for which few other PCIe-based SSDs can provide. This keeps RAIDR Express running at top speed while extending the drive’s life.
  • newegg RAMDisk- Double up on speed with RAM and SSD This brilliant feature allows you to use up to 80% of your computer’s available memory as a high-speed virtual drive to accelerate the loading of favorite apps and games – to over 12,000MBps in our tests! ROG RAMDisk uses what are known as ‘junction points’, so there’s no need to re-install your software. Just choose an application, and RAMDisk will ensure that your PC will directly access its files and data using the extreme speed of the computer’s own RAM. But that’s just one great feature of RAMDisk. Better still, RAMDisk extends the life of your SSD because it reduces unnecessary read-write cycles. RAMDisk even backs itself up to the main system drive when you shut down your PC, and restores itself automatically the next time you power up. It’s ready to roll as soon as you are — it’s all speed and no hassle!
  • newegg SSD TweakIt - Take control for faster and longer-lasting storage SSD TweakIt is designed to provide the easiest way to get top-notch performance and ultra-long durability. It auto-relocates repetitive write activities to RAMDisk for even faster browsing, while keeping RAIDR Express at peak performance for much longer. You can also apply a preset profile that automatically refines the processor (CPU) settings to achieve a speed boost of up to 5%.
  • newegg Secure Erase One simple boot from the included utility disc totally refreshes RAIDR Express to regain its original performance – like it just came out of the box the day you bought it. This is done by securely and completely removing all data from RAIDR Express in Linux, so you can also refresh your RAIDR Express even it’s the system drive. Now, you don’t need to worry about the performance degradation due to accumulated data and frequent writing.
  • newegg ROG HybriDisk - Enjoy both SSD speed and HDD space ROG HybriDisk supercharges you with hybrid storage powered by SSD caching, so you can make your hard disk drive (HDD) go faster than SATA! It works with your HDD (up to 4TB), so you can enjoy data transfers that effectively smash SATA-based SSD speed limits (600MBps). You can now enjoy hard drive capacities with SSD speeds – the best of both worlds.

4 out of 5 eggsNice product, if you really need it

Pros: Nicely designed and constructed. Works right out of the box. Fills a needed void for those happy with their non-SATA III systems. Trim support. UEFI support.

Cons: Expensive, but then so is buying a new MB, CPU and memory. Does not out perform a good single SATA III SSD connected to an onboard or third party SATA III controller.

Other Thoughts: If you have any generation SATA III on your MB then you will be wasting your money on this product. If you have no SATA III on your MB or a third party SATA III card, then this is a really nice way to get into it. Outside of some really cool benchmarks, you will see only a marginal increase in system responsiveness and throughput. Boot times are wash because what the raid-0 setup adds in speed, the bios initialization time takes away. Most game level loads are identical to those achieved by a single SATA III connected to a third party card. I don't regret buying it, though.

5 out of 5 eggsJust Bought two

Pros: 1) Quick and easy installation
2) Great aesthetic look
3) decent speed

One of the greatest things about the Raidr is the look that it gives your computer. Being that I took out most of my drive mounts, this was a great way to install a HD and add a mean look to the system

Cons: I came into buying this after watching the Newegg video and looking up the other videos posted on the Raidr. One of the coolest things that I saw was the speeds that multiple Raidrs could give. With that in mind I purchased two. Having them work independently was fine and easy but setting up the two for raid took a bit. This does not affect my score because if you have ever built a computer, you know that it is a learning experience =)

Other Thoughts: If you are buying this with the thought of running multiple cards, know that this does not affect boot times. It is only a software raid through Windows. Believe me that the speeds are awesome! I clock in at about 1.4gb/s read and write.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic SSD

Pros: Great drive, great performance. Boot up time was lightening fast. Worth the money. This drive is awesome and crazy fast!

Cons: Only one con. There was a learning curve when installing Win 8 in UEFI mode. The installation guide that comes with the drive was not helpful at all.

Other Thoughts: I made the mistake of installing Win 8 initially in legacy mode. I noticed that the boot up time, although fast, was not impressive. When I noticed that the UEFI light was not on, I formatted the drive and switched it to UEFI mode. Thus began the nightmare of getting my mobo (Rampage VI Extreme) to detect the drive. After playing with it multiple times I finally got it detected and installed Win 8. As soon as I hit the power button, my jaw dropped at how fast it booted up. I love this card.

An additional note. Loading time for Battlefield 4 beta is crazy fast vs. my two corsair SSD in Raid0. If you have the money, buy this card! You won't regret it!

4 out of 5 eggsNot THAT fast!

Pros: Works as advertised, TRIM works on set up. Some good software included.

Cons: I have SABERTOOTH X79 mobo, upgrading the BIOS past version 4302, i.e. versions 4404 and 4502, will not recognize this card. Had to go back to the 4302!!! (I think 4302 was latest when RAIDR started shipping.) Not noticeably faster than good SSDs. Should be a little bigger in size.

Other Thoughts: You have to disable the onboard Marvell chip which isn't such a bad thing because it slows booting. Note that drive comes up as "Windows Boot Manager" in BIOs boot preferences.

5 out of 5 eggsSpeed Demon

Pros: Extremely fast read/write rates. Excellent concept that works extremely well. Reliablility-been running for 1 week about 12 hours a day, so far no crashes or freezes. I'm running it on an ASUS Sabertooth Z87 with two GeForce 770s in SLI mode. Abosolutely no problems at all. Just plugged in another 770, linked together with the sli bridge and windows 7 did the rest on boot up.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you dont move the switch to Duo Mode when installing windows OS because it wont be recognized and the OS installation will not be able to continue.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking in X58 motherboard

Pros: -Showed up in my GAX58A-UD3R motherboard BIOS as a hard drive without having to change any settings
-Windows installed on it just like it was a SATA drive
-Fast
-I now have a fast SSD drive in my old X58 motherboard that does not have full SATA 3 ports
-It is visually appealing and came with a case sticker

Cons: -Price per gigabyte is too high
-Performance is not better than two SATA 3 drives in Raid 0
-Gets a little warm but has not been an issue yet

Other Thoughts: I really like this drive. My X58 motherboard doesn't have full speed SATA 3 ports, so this drive saved me from having to buy a new motherboard and processor! I was expecting to have trouble getting my BIOS to show this PCI Express card as a hard drive, but I didn't have to change any settings to get Windows to install on it!
This drive is actually two SSD drives in RAID 0, but this is already set up internally so I didn't have to do anything. The RAIDR showed up as a single hard drive in the BIOS.
I've heard that you can use it as two 120GB drives instead and even RAID multiple RAIDR Express cards.
Two SATA 3 drives in RAID 0 can provide higher performance than a single RAIDR Express card at a cheaper price.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Good speed easily exceeds dual 6G SSD's in RAID0. Additional RAM drive is cool for disposable cache files.

Cons: My ASUS Motherboard doesn't support the RAIDR in UEFI mode, which seems stupid. Not the RAIDR's fault, but you think ASUS would be smarter.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if the included software could do things like report the status of the auto-trim and what-not.

5 out of 5 eggseasy to use ... if UEFI off

Pros: Super-fast drive, easy to install (no cables), doesn't use motherboard SATA 6 ports (important for 2011 chipset for instance with only 2 native ports). RAID showed up in BIOS without any config, and Win8 recognized it as a single drive without adding an install-time driver. Painless OS install when switch is NOT in UEFI position (see other thoughts).

Cons: Expensive compared to 2 fast SSD drives in conventional RAID. Requires a 2x PCIe slot, which on some motherboards will mean it will take a 16x slot. Painful OS install when switch is in UEFI position (see other thoughts).

Other Thoughts: Quick review after 2 days of new build; did not test speed nor use provided software. Software includes a RAM-drive, looking forward to that to put my 32Gb to use.

Main problem was trying to install Win8 with the card's UEFI/legacy switch in UEFI position. Went through many iterations of messing with BIOS UEFI and CSM boot settings before giving up and flipping the switch on the card to legacy boot mode. After I did that, all was well and Win8 install went fine. When in legacy mode, the card's option BIOS shows up in the display during POST, but no RAID configuration was necessary. Apparently even with a UEFI BIOS, there may not be full support for UEFI booting from card storage devices. Recommend keeping the card's switch in the legacy mode unless you're comfortable with the nuances of UEFI device booting.

For reference:
motherboard = ASUS P9 X79 PRO
proc = 4930K
video card = ASUS GTX660Ti

5 out of 5 eggsGreat if you have UEFI

Pros: Super fast I/O assuming your motherboard supports it. Ramdisk software turns your normal ram into a temporary hard disk

Cons: Did not work to install windows 7 x64 in legacy mode on my particular gigabyte z77x-ud5h board.

Other Thoughts: There is a hardware switch on the card that switches the card into uefi mode. After putting it in that mode, I was able to install windows 7 x64 on it as a boot device. The switch is not obvious. Asus could draw attention to it and save some people some headaches.

I bought this instead of one from OCZ because OCZ had poor reviews. The Asus card is sturdy, runs at a normal temperature and the Attomark benchmarks it at up to 741mb/sec write and 765mb read speeds

5 out of 5 eggsAsus RAIDR is way better than OCZ

Pros: My company has purchased 8 OCZ RevoDrives since 2011. Every single one of them has died. OCZ has done the jiggly dance to get out of warranty every time. So not only have we had high $$ engineers sitting waiting while someone diagnoses the failure (OCZ) but they wait while OCZ decides how to get out of their warranty. We have lost tons of man hours due to OCZ failures. It's been a real problem with these PCI cards.

It's not just cards either, we have had 5 OCZ SSDs in laptops, all but 1 has failed. Of those, only 1 was warrantied. Again, lots of critical time lost.

Yes, it's true, these OCZ drives are fast, but their reliability and support is horrible.

Recently tried the Asus RAIDR. Less $ than OCZ. Just as fast. So far it's been reliable. No drivers are required (which has been a real problem with OCZ over the years.) Also, the Asus comes with a nice ramdisk utility that'll really speed up windoze.

Save your $ and time and bypass all OCZ products, they fail and OCZ won't stand behind them.

My company has permanently banned OCZ products due to their high failure rate.

Cons: None for the Asus RAIDR. The OCZs are junk.
