1 out of 5 eggsavoid this one

Pros: 4 usb 2.0 ports and 2 usb 3.0 if you can get them to work

Cons: usb 3.0 ports work out of a extension cord, memory slots dont work, tried sd and sd micro, the receiving pins look like they were just placed there to serve no purpose, the whole thing looks different then the one on the picture, no led lights, usb ports are arranged differently than the picture

Other Thoughts: if you do decide tto buy this one, dont be quick to thow the packaging and plastics before you find that everything works, had i saved the box it came with i would so return it to newegg

1 out of 5 eggsOverpriced piece of junk

Pros: Huh?

Cons: Bought two of these not from newegg though because it wasn't in stock wheh I was looking for them. One was DOA. Replacement came in DOA as well. Second seemed to be working fine at first, died after a couple of months of light use. I'm not even bothering trying to replace them anymore and will never buy Xigmatek again. Horrible quality.

1 out of 5 eggsRipoff

Pros: None

Cons: This product is much more expensive rebrand, of a less expensive card reader.

Other Thoughts: Search this on Newegg. Rosewill RDCR-11004

That card reader is the exact same with the exception of the logo, and its price tag, comming in at half the price of this one.

Go with that one before you make the mistake of spending way too much on this one.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing works AND its very well built

Pros: Ok, so against all of the negative reviews i had to buy this because i wanted to expand my usb 3.0 ports and i like the card options. As for all the negative reviews they are unwaranted! This reader installed and works perfectly. I dont know what you are all doing wrong but this installed and reads all of my cards with no problems at all. The only thing i can think is that maybe most uses do not have enough power left to power the reader but then again i doubt it drawls much.

Cons: The molex power connector is rather short and the grommet that hold all of the cords to the body of the reader was coming out but i simply just pushed it back in.

Other Thoughts: I have the reader running on the following setup

Windows 7 Ultimate - All updates
CorsaiR Obsideon
Corsair H80 CPU Cooling
I7 3930K
32gb Gskill Ram
Asus P9X79 Deluxe
Geforce GTX 690
OCZ Revodrive X2 Boot Drive
(2) Fujitsu Hard Drives in Raid 0 for data
(2) Asus Blu Ray Drives
Sound Blaster Recon 3D Sound Card

1 out of 5 eggsNice, BUT....

Pros: Nice design and layout with everything you could ask for in this type of device. Looks good!! Exactly what I have been loking for to add to my new 'box'.

Cons: Bought in August 2012. Worked for about a week attached to my Gigibyte Z77x-UD5H. Started to check the various flash cards read ports and died. USB ports still work but the flash card reader is DEAD. Switched the USB plugs on the MB to no avail.

Went to the Xigmatek website for information and RMA. No support. The website confirms that they sell the product and that about it. Sent them an email, they replied back with a link to their site. I was expecting a little more from the manufacturer. It is, what it is!

Other Thoughts: at least the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 still work...... at least until I can find something else to replace it.

1 out of 5 eggsDevice fail

Pros: Form factor, functions, quality of build and materials

Cons: USB Hub not recognized under Win7Pro64. No drivers provided, no customer support from website. Only one of the front USB3 plugs work from the 20pin USB cable. The other port is only a pass through connection that is a USB3 >female< connector. Apparently, this cable is to pass through the back of the case and into a MB USB3 connection!! Not too bright, no very effective.

Other Thoughts: I could live without both of the USB 3 ports not working per the con above, however, for the USB2 ports to NOT be recognized is ridiculous. I've put a request for help off their site (such as it is) but I might have to return this as defective shortly. Otherwise, quality of finish and materials are very nice.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It was great when it all worked on the first day.

Cons: Over time it just stopped functioning. First all the USB 2 slots stopped working, then the card readers and now just one of the USB 3.0 ports currently work. Really is shotty peice of equipment.

4 out of 5 eggsGood but need a motherboard with 20 pin USB 3.0 port

Pros: It looks nice and seems sturdy. 3.0 USB card reader is faster than my old one.

Cons: No instructions to be found (not even on the web)!

Motherboard must have a 20 pin USB connector for the card readers to work, OR you will have to buy a USB 3.0 add on card like the "Silverstone PCI-E to USB 3.0 Add-On card model SST-EC04" for $32.

You will also need a USB 3.0 port for the right most USB 3.0 port on this product to work, it's basically a pass through port. I plugged mine into the rear ports on my USB 3.0 add on card I purchased.

Other Thoughts: So here are the basic instructions since it didn't ship with any.

The eSATA plugs into the MB so you can easily connect an external eSATA drive, basically it's a pass-through cable.

The USB 3.0 20 pin connector needs to be plugged in for the card readers and left USB 3.0 port to work

The USB 3.0 cable needs to be plugged in for the right USB 3.0 port to work.

And the 4 standard USB (white) ports work off a standard 9 pin USB connector that need to be connected to the motherboard. I'm pretty sure every motherboard now days has several of these.

So before you buy make sure your motherboard has a 20 pin USB 3.0 port. OR you will need to also buy an add on card. Again I bought the Silverstone PCI-E to USB 3.0 Add-On card model SST-EC04 for only $32 so it's not a huge deal but it was annoying I had to wait several days before I could use this card reader.

Hope this helps :)

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Design With Fatal Flaw

Pros: Overall a well-designed product with lots of ports for USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and various types of flash media.

Cons: First, a minor flaw is that I think the USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports should be swapped, quantity-wise. So it should have 4xUSB 3.0 and 2xUSB 2.0. Or heck, since it's backwards compatible, everything should be USB 3.0.

The MAJOR flaw, in my opinion, is that the internal USB 3.0 header connection is only for the card reader ports. You still have to plug a normal USB 3.0 male connector into an available USB 3.0 port (internal, if you have it, or external via the back of the case) in order to use the two USB 3.0 ports on the device. This is an ugly, hack solution that unfortunately most manufactures are going with to support the majority of setups that do not have USB 3.0 headers. In doing so they are making life difficult for those of us who have caught up with technology and have motherboards with perfectly working USB 3.0 headers.

Other Thoughts: I have not purchased this because of what is mentioned in the Cons section. I am still holding out for a good 5.25" bay device that only uses internal motherboard headers and not any actual USB ports.

1 out of 5 eggsUPDATE

Pros: Lots of ports and SSreader. see below

Cons: This is an update to my previous review, and since Customer service has not contacted me back, I am now unhappy with this product. The Card reader is no longer functional. I assume because of static discharge to the unit, or it is faulty. Either way it is an issue that needs to be addressed and warranted by the manufacture.

Other Thoughts: I will contact them again, but as a system builder they will lose my business for good if they do not support their product.
