1 out of 5 eggsDOA on First use!

Pros: None

Cons: Dead upon first use!

Other Thoughts: Purchased this Floppy disk drive and put in on my shelf where ist has been Since the endo of August 2011 still in the box. Purchased it for a "Just in case" situation where I might need to put some OS drivers onto a floppy for OS installation and this weekend that was the case! Pulled out the diskette drive attached it to a good system but the floppy drive was DOA. In the past i have not had any issues with Bytecc products but this drive did NOT match my past experiences!

5 out of 5 eggsSo Thankful....!!

Pros: I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. And, just received this unit in the mail. I received it within a week.

This unit is extremely simple to use. Just Plug & Play!

I have seen some reviews complaining about the noise and slowness. My first computer ran on DOS and used cassette tape (Pre-5 1/4" disks), so I have some history here. I have personally never used a 3 1/2" disk drive that did not make a little "twirling buzz" noise when used. And, as far as slowness...well it IS reading floppies!

All-in-all, a GREAT bang for the buck!

I had a lot of old and very priceless family photos on 3 1/2" floppy disks. Within an hour of plugging this unit in, I had them all on my computer's hard-drive! I am so thankful!

4 out of 5 eggsAcceptable

Pros: - Requires only 1 usb port for data and power

- Windows 7 64-bit recognizes it

- Compact and light

Cons: - Motherboard UEFI/BIOS has not recognized the floppy drive via usb (perhaps a UEFI/BIOS setting needs to be changed)

Other Thoughts: Operates with a Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-D3H motherboard and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well.

Pros: Works really well for what it is. I was amazed that it even shows up and works in Windows 98 virtual machines (VirtualBox) with the proper driver.

Cons: Loud as all get out when it is searching for disk or reading. It has been a few years since I last used a floppy drive and I recall them being loud but this one still seems overly loud to me.

Also the inner workings seem a bit lose and they rattle when shaken. Nothing that would prevent me from buying it again, but worth knocking off an egg, as I wonder about the longevity of the drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGood When You Need IT

Pros: Only one needed for multiple computers. If I need this once a year it's a lot.

Cons: Can't remember where I leave these things.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully the last one I ever buy. I have bought 3 or 4 of these over the last 5 years. I know they are around, but I have no idea where. Cheaper to buy a new one.

3 out of 5 eggsSo so performance, 1 of 2 DOA

Pros: 1 of 2 drives works. Is recognized on Win 7 and Win 8, but I didn't try to read/write a disk.

Cons: 1 of 2 DOA and corrupts every disk inserted. Bad unit is recognized by windows, but can't read disks. It corrupts a formatted disk so that it has to be formatted in the other working drive. Tried 3 times with 3 different disks, and it corrupts them all, but they will format in the working drive.

Other Thoughts: Will never buy again. Not worth the money to send back to Newegg unless they or Bytecc send me a free shipping label to return the drive for replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless service for several years

Pros: Has been super reliable for me. It lives in my trunk (Arizona = hotter than supermodels) 24x7 and has never failed to fire right up every time. Has worked as a bootable floppy on every system I've tried it on. No funny business, just plug it in and it works.

Cons: USB cable is short? Who cares really... no cons.

Other Thoughts: I am a travelling IT support person and this kicks around the trunk of my car waiting for that random XP or Server 2003 system that needs drivers loaded from a floppy or maybe a legacy BIOS update. It has been flawless for probably 5 years now.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfect!

Pros: Bought for adding drivers for older Windows Op systems. Installs them flawlessly. Had a couple months now and so far so good.

No power source required, Simple USB hookup and both Win 7 & XP detected it without issue. Didn't even need to install the software, which comes with the unit on a disc.

Cons: NONE product related.

Other - it took almost a month to arrive from a third party affiliate because they did'nt ship for about a week after I paid. But Newegg made it right.
