Cavalry CAXE Series 1TB USB 2.0 / eSATA External Hard Drive - CAXE3701T0

  • USB 2.0 / eSATA
ICON Loading...

In the Old West the Cavalry was there to protect you. In today's wild and wooly world of data back-up they still are. The CAXE 1TB drive comes in a heat dissipating chassis that also incorporates shock absorption to protect the drive and your data from two of the data world's biggest foes.

The SATA II drive can transfer up to 3Gb/s when hooked up to an eSATA port. If your system doesn't have a port the drive comes with an adapter cable to convert a regular SATA port to eSATA. A USB 2.0 interface is included to give the drive near-universal compatibility.

  • newegg Aluminum Enclosure The Cavalry CAXE3701T0's aluminum enclosure delivers excellent heat dissipation and provides tough, reliable hard drive protection.
  • newegg High Performance Hard Drive The Cavalry CAXE3701T0 features a high performance 7200 RPM hard drive with an ultra-large capacity of 1TB so you can store your movies, music, applications and documents for easy sharing with your friends and even back up your system.
  • newegg Dual Interface Support The Cavalry CAXE3701T0 supports the eSATA interface for an ultra-fast data transfer speed of up to 3Gb/s and USB 2.0 interface for plug-and-play connectivity.
  • newegg HDD Activity LED The highly-visible HDD activity LED light lets you know when the hard drive is being accessed.
  • newegg eSATA Bracket Included With the included eSATA bracket, connect the Cavalry CAXE3701T0 to your computer via the high-speed eSATA interface!

5 out of 5 eggsHad it for 4 years and counting

Pros: I have had it for over 4 year and yes i managed to fill it up... The eSATA is amazing my benchmark puts it at a steady 78MB/s but windows thinks its getting over 200 for small files. It is built well, dissipates heat, quite (unlike so WD drives that sound like they are making coffee), and always works.

Cons: In the 4+ years of owner ship on 2 occasions it gave a "Drive cannot be read, drive is corrupt and needs to be formatted" error. But all i did way unplug everything and waited a few mins and it worked fine again for another year before needed to be unplugged again.

Other Thoughts: I wish they still sold these. They are amazing, and I haven't found a drive that is equal yet.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful Drives!

Pros: I bought four of these drives to use in a RAID 5 array, and they are rock solid! The case is sturdy and looks pretty sharp. I also love that they have a hardware power switch on them, which makes matinance of the array easier. I've had no problems from any of them. I would certainly recommend

Cons: LED can be a tad bright sometimes, but I think that's the case with anything these days. I just turned them to the wall.

5 out of 5 eggs2 months...

Pros: Works just fine, that sound that I mentioned hasn't shown any signs of being a problem.

Cons: None really...

Other Thoughts: Found out that if the computer is on and you try to connect the drive using just the eSATA cable it causes the computer to crash. However, if you plug in the USB cable first, then the eSATA cable, it works just fine.

Already have the drive half full... 75 movies of DVD or Blu-Ray quality, several CD albums in FLAC format, and 22 game backups...

5 out of 5 eggs1 month review...

Pros: .

Cons: .

Other Thoughts: It just started this about 3 days ago... After about 45 min of the drive not being used, it makes the same sound (sort of a 'chirrupp' sound) as it does when I shut down my computer with the drive still on.

Is this possibly the drive giving signs of failure?

1 out of 5 eggsSeemed like a good idea...

Pros: The overall packaged contents were nice, cables seemed to be of good quality. That's all I can think of good to say

Cons: faulty out of the box, read a lot of mixed reviews. Was really worried about buying the drive. Decided that I would go and do it. Plug in, and just starts beeping at me. I read the manual and it even says in there, "if loud noises occur, device is defective. Contact our tech support immediately" !!!!!!!!

I emailed them, the return email suggested that I use a different power cable, perhaps from a printer.... really. Cause I guess the power was the problem with it beeping at me. Contacted Newegg instead, got full refund easy rma print out, money back in less than the time it took me to get the drive in the mail. Don't try this drive, too risky, who knows it may start up and then crash out during back up, 1st back up that is.

Other Thoughts: I understand that you can have things happen with any electronics, especially storage devices. I have a WD drive that had mixed reviews, but mine works fine 3 yr later. I even take it around places sometimes. I bought this drive to replace that one. Now i'm going for 2tb instead of 1tb. Guess I'll do MORE research this time

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Without being able to inspect and test the external drive I can only guess as to the
Cause of the noise. Disk drives are very sensitive to shock and perhaps the packaged unit was dropped in shipping. A damaged drive will make quite a racket! The only solution would have been to send you an advanced replacement which we are willing to do.

As you can see from our users reviews the CAXE series is one of our most popular products and has an overall 5 star rating. If you would be kind enough to give us a second chance or would just like to discuss the support that you received please call me at Cavalry Storage (805) 426-1000. Thank you, Dennis Resnik V.P. 5 out of 5 eggsWorks like it should.

Pros: 1TB external drive
eSATA
USB
Runs at SATA II speeds (3.0Gb/s)

Cons: Can't reformat to exFAT.

Other Thoughts: Contains a HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C. This drive is sold separately on Newegg as Item#: N82E16822145304. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145304)

Plugged in the power, plugged in the eSATA cables, turned on the drive, waited 5 sec for Windows to install the drivers, and it was usable immediately.

I'll update at the 1 week mark if there's anything new to add.

5 out of 5 eggsStill Running Strong

Pros: Fast upload and download. Quick recognition on new computers. Stays nice and cool to the touch. Like being able to use eSata and USB. Metal casing is strong and durable.

Cons: The blue light is a little bright. Hid behind my monitor. The metal casing that makes it strong, also makes it a bit heavy. Not great for transporting around often.

Other Thoughts: I have had this HD for two years without a single issue. I have left it powered on and connected for about 20 solid months. No overheating, great at streaming music and movies from computers and on a network.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: 1TB storage for $80 WITH a solid and decent eSATA cord, USB2 cord and even a eSATA bracket for those who do not have one. Very quiet. Runs cool. Much smaller than my old 2007 250GB external HDD model. Runs at the speed of an average internal hard drive with comparable seek times.

Cons: Blue power light is nice but this item combines both the "always on" power light with the HDD activity light. Makes it hard to see if the activity light is working. Maybe it is something with eSATA, but this does not turn off with the computer. I have to manually turn off.

Other Thoughts: The stand looks like it is not useful. But when I actually put it on the stand, I realized it is more useful than it looks.
