1 out of 5 eggsLoud and Dead after 4 Months

Pros: It functioned correctly (loudly) for a short while

Cons: Loud - it ran 24/7 (no stand-by mode when not in use). My refrigerator makes less noise.

Started having problems shortly after the NewEgg warranty expired. (It would randomly freeze if left on for over 1 day). This was manageable until I came home one day and it was completely unresponsive (showed errors on drives). Rebooting did not help - I assumed the hard drives were bad.

Since I already transferred all my important data to the NAS and Calvary doesn't guarantee your data if you send it in, I was stuck between a rock and a hard spot - my warranty was void if I tried to recover my data, and my data was lost if I sent the NAS in.

I opened it up to try to recover my data and see what the problem was. Strangely enough, both hard drives were fine. The NAS would just not run with 2 drives plugged into it (one was fine).

So it ran with one drive for a while, until I used the software to shut it down over a long weekend. It never turned on again - no response at all

Other Thoughts: I would not buy again. I should have returned it as soon as I heard how loud the fan was. I shouldn't have trusted it with my data. I have nothing by regrets with this purchase.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Quick setup to get going with Windows. No issues so far and super quiet.

Cons: Had it close the network connection a couple times but it reboots quickly. A reset button would be nice versus having to disconnect the power to restart.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: Have had it since May 09 and it has performed flawlessly. I use the print server function but don't really do that much printing so I have no complaints so far.

Cons: none so far

4 out of 5 eggsGreat product.....No so great instructions

Pros: Set as RAID 1 right out of the box. Hard drives are silent. Set up to share music/videos/pictures across a 4 PC network. Streams w/ NO lag!

Cons: Setup instructions could be MUCH better.

Other Thoughts: We run Windows XP, Vista, and 7 on our 3 PC's. I had to create an account for each windows user on the network drive using their EXACT windows login information. Otherwise the PC could not logon to the mapped network drive automatically when powered up.

I would have easily givin this product 5 eggs had the setup instructions been netter.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product, only one annoying gripe

Pros: -Easy peasy setup
-Default settings were exactly what I wanted (Raid 1, DHCP)
-Fast gigabit

Cons: -Froze on me once and wouldn't shut down. Had to pull the plug :(. Was not due to inadequate cooling.
-Can't seem to turn off or disable the default password
-Could be quieter, but not a personal gripe.

Other Thoughts: Security is not an issue for me. I want all the PC's in my house to backup to this drive automatically WITHOUT a username and password. Yes, you can have it save your credentials, but I'd prefer not to do this so that I don't forget the username and password in the future.

Otherwise, it's fast and easy. Smaller than it looks in the photoes. Would recommend.

4 out of 5 eggsFine NAS - poor USB Print server

Pros: Hard drives are quiet. the fan is a tad loud though.
Nice compact case.
Cool to touch
Comes preconfigured for RAID 1 so its 500 GB storage

Cons: USB Printer server is a joke. It doesn't support bi-directional communications. (Confirmed this with cavalry tech support - they wrote to me that they are speaking to their suppliers to find out how to enable this but no ETA). But if you planned on using the USB print server for an inkjet printer you will be able to print, but you will have no feedback from the printer to tell you when you are low on ink so the print server is pretty much useless due to that severe deficiency.

Other Thoughts: The Hard drives in the unit appear to be Western Digital WD5000AACS 500GB which go for $60 here on Newegg.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Backup security, easy to use, not bad to set up

Cons: Would have been nice to include some minimal software to do backups, set-up could be more clearly explained.

Other Thoughts: Does Newegg own a fleet of magic carpets? Ordered this midnight Sunday, was on my doorstep Tuesday afternoon. I have never seen a company deliver like Newegg. Incredible. They get 6 stars.

Cavalry gets 4 stars with a bullet. Only been running a couple days, so far so good. Smaller than I pictured. Fan is audible, relatively low white noise, noticeable but not overpowering. Put it under teh desk or behind something. Leave it off when not in use & it's silent!

It has been running a total of about 4 hours over 2 nights. That includes setting it up on a home network w/D-Link wired router - took a little fumbling because installation instructions are minimal at best. Instructions & illustrations do not match Windows desktop & menus exactly, but can be figured out. Would have been nice to come with a little software for back-ups, but in 2 nights by drag & drop in Windows Explorer I have backed up documents from 4 hard drives on 2 computers, mostly while I was elsewhere.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple, Simple, Simple

Pros: This thing is VERY simple. Plug it into the network. Explore the network and there it is. no funky drivers like my older netgear. Web interface is pretty simple too. Mine has Western Digital drives in it.

Cons: None So far.

Other Thoughts: Nice price, easy to use. Comes reconfigured for raid 1. so you will only get 500gb. can reconfigure for 1tb with raid 0. I'll keep the redundancy because ill be using it to store family photos and videos.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality

Pros: Cost

Cons: Power supply cable was very loose at plug on back of unit. Unit would reset at the slightest movement. Doesn't make for a good reliable storage device.
