1 out of 5 eggsDead

Pros: Good storage space, has both usb and esata.

Cons: This drive died after 1.5 years of light use, mostly just reads.
I put videos on the drive to play on my tv through usb.
The 6th time in under two years that I connected it to my computer to put more videos on it... it would barely respond. Getting just a few hundred mb from it took over an hour. Once I started trying to write to it, the click of death sound began.
It was never dropped or misused in any way.

Other Thoughts: The warranty is only one year.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid HDD

Pros: Great HDD all around, E-Sata is great. Transfer rates of 50-250mb/s depending on the type of file, and computer its plugged into. The solid metal casing feels nice, another 250gb one i own feels chinsy, and easily breakable. Very quite at idle, until transferring data (cons) doesnt heat up fast at all, after backing up 250gb of data its still only a little above warm to the touch. Metal casing perhaps works as a good heat sink.

Cons: The drive is silent at idle, but when you start transferring data, you can feel the clicking, and it echo's through the shelf i have it in. The noise doesn't bother me so much, but the thought of the wear and tear caused by the rough movement makes me wonder.

Other Thoughts: ive had this for a year, and i used it on a weekly basis, no problems so far.

3 out of 5 eggsDepends what you use it for

Pros: Good size for price.

Cons: The hard drives themselves are decent but I've had two drives die in the same way, getting continuous blinking and not drive connectivity. Still gave it a 3 as in both cases just the enclosure's controller was fried, and I was able to extract the drives and use them as internal.

Other Thoughts: With both of the fried drives, I was using them as media drives using full-disk encryption with Truecrypt, they might have survived better had I been doing something less esoteric.

5 out of 5 eggswow

Pros: Well, what can you say about external storage...it's big and it works! SATA is fast!

Cons: No noisy fan...but hasn't overheated, guess this isn't a problem. Did notice the plug is a little finicky and positional, but has worked fine for the past six months.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast transfers. Good value compared to other external TBs. Includes eSata kit for towers. Operates better than my Western Digital My Book.

Cons: Power supply is large and hogs up space on a surge.

Other Thoughts: My drive lists Hitachi HDS721010CLA332.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: great HD. 1TB size, easy to transport. eSATA and included PCI eSATA add on card.

Cons: it isn't 2TB? no cons.

Other Thoughts: If you need some extra space, a backup drive, or an external drive for any reason, this one works well. doesn't heat up very much. some people might not like the blue LED, but i don't mind it at all.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Quiet, Cool, Fast
Comes with ESata card and Cable
1 TB, Solid Skin / Cover (actually metal!)
Plug and Play on my Ubuntu PC (after the reboot due to eSata)
USB is a plus, makes for transfering small files without the necessary reboot.

Cons: Bright LED (Black Electrical tape fixes that)
No USB Cable (I have plenty, but may be a con for some)
Power Cord is a bulky plug, not bad just had to re-adjust my surge protect.

Other Thoughts: Bought this unit to integrate with my ASUS O!Play I bought. I have to do more testing, and it could be the ext4 format, but it received a "Device not supported error". I am sure it is the ext4 format, so I will downgrade it to NTFS (slower but if it works oh well) and see if that fixes it.

Transfered all my data from my 500GB FireWire drive at 30MBps, great speed! I was really impressed and happy. Installation on Ubuntu went smooth as better, plug and play. For the price, great deal and I am happy. If I cannot get it to work with the o!Play, well that is fine I have a very nice backup drive and just need to buy another one for that and do my research on the O!Play and supported drives.

Great buy either way!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Had this for a little over a month now and no problems what so ever. All I had to do was enable my eSATA port in BIOS and I was up and running. Came pre-formatted NTFS out of the box which was nice.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Blue light on the front is a little bright.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: eSATA kit, quiet, fast xfer rate with eSATA, price.

Cons: Minor: Had to download eSATA install instructions (website given in supplied instructions). Since the eSATA kit was one of the selling points for me (an probably others) I found it odd that the steps were not included in the package... like I said, Minor.

Other Thoughts: My PC is a couple years old so I didn't have an eSATA port making the inclusion of the kit an awesome plus. Had it up and running with 250 GB backed up all within a couple hours. Love having peace of mind that all our family photos and videos are backed up!
