3 out of 5 eggsNot so sure about the quality...

Pros: After finally getting past the slow setup, actual drive speed was good.

Cons: Took many hours to sync for RAID initially. Took many hours to format the drives, as well. These were large 250GB drives, but something still seemed fishy about the setup times. Internal fan never worked, drives overheated.

Other Thoughts: I used identical, brand new Seagate drives as listed on Thecus' compatibility list. Drives ran extremely hot in the case, with or without the top. Turns out it was partly because the fan never worked (defect). It is a high performance device, but I question the engineering and quality control on this one. It does seem cheaply made.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat a BEAST

Pros: LOVE IT! I use it on my laptop to capture video from my GL2. I filled it with two of Seagates 320 Gig 7200.10's. Been using it for about 8-9 months without any issues. Install was easy, it built it's own RAID. I get about 2.5Gbs to my laptop which has a new Express port.
If you want something easy to setup and great to use on the road or on your desk, this is a great solution. Find yourself blown away when this is faster than your internal hard drives...

Cons: It's Green... I HATE GREEN!

Wish they would allow you to tie two together in RAID 1+0...

Other Thoughts: I have yet to find anything this good for the money... and I plan on buying a few more. I'm running out of my 600 Gigs... maybe I will go with a couple 750's this time on Raid 0... Thanks Thecus, and as always NEWEGG ROCKS!

1 out of 5 eggsThis is NOT an NAS device!

Pros: This seems to be the most affordable, good quatlity hardware-based RAID 0/1 solution out there. It looks slick, and the speed can't be beat for the price.

Cons: Wikipedia states that Network-attached storage (NAS) is the name given to dedicated data storage technology that can be connected directly to a computer network to provide centralized data access and storage to heterogeneous network clients.

THIS IS NOT NAS. The fact that the product title includes "Network Storage" and Newegg included it under NAS devices implies that I could plug this into the network with a CAT-5 cable, configure with an IP address (and/or share name), and then use it without a computer. THIS IS *NOT* THE CASE.

Other Thoughts: UPS has been dropping the ball, and I miss the days of deliveries being a day earlier than expected. I think that I'm paying extra next time for FedEx.

5 out of 5 eggsCan't complain

Pros: Works as described. Setup was simple. Array was up and running in no time at all. VERY fast for what it is

Cons: Raid 5? :)

Other Thoughts: Perfect for home users and home networks such as myself. I put in 2 500Gb WD SATA 2 3gbs/second drives and it works great. I'm using it as a network shared drive. Only thing was I 35gb when it was formatted :(

2 out of 5 eggsRandom shutdowns

Pros: Easy to setup, and excellent throughput.

Cons: Shuts itself down randomly, causing file system corruption. Be careful about using this in a production environment.

Other Thoughts: It's probably fine for personal use.

5 out of 5 eggsfinally...

Pros: finally... a diy das / nas solution this thing works great, excellent product.

Cons: the manual has several obvious misspellings, but I really didn't need the manual anyway, because this thing just works.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat solution

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Very fast throughput. Much faster than network-attached or USB-2 connected storage. A good way to extend your storage capacity.

Cons: The Thecus web site has a list of supported drives, but it is very old and incomplete.

Other Thoughts: Using the included eSATA interface card on a server running Windows 2000 server. Using two 320 GB Seagate drives at 3Gb/s wihout problems, RAID-1.

5 out of 5 eggsPleasantly surprised

Pros: Didn't conflict with an Adaptec 2420 or an internal LSI Host RAID controller.
Performs as promised.Incredibly easy to install. A true plug and pray setup
When compared to enterprise level hardware the price is excellent.

Cons: No response from the company when asked for information.

Power and reset switches aren't protected from an accidental shut down.

Only accepts two drives which limits its performance on an enterprise level workstation.

Only other interface is USB.

Controller card is limited by legacy PCI interface.

Other Thoughts: The company didn't respond when I asked if this drive enclosure would accept the new 750 gig Western drives. The spec sheet only lists 500 gig drives as a max drive size and I've seen drive size limited by firmware in the past. I decided to take the leap and order the drives and the enclosure and I'm glad I did. The 750s work flawlessly with the 2050 and space lost to formating was substantially less than previously seen with other drives. A 750 gig drive formatted to 721 gig. 40 gig of data transfered from the onboard SATA RAID to the drive enclosure in fifteen minutes even though the enclosures' controller is limited to 33 Mhz PCI. I would love to see what this setup would do with an updated interface.

I have yet to test the second SATA port located internally on the card. I'm hoping to be able to run a third drive.

5 out of 5 eggsvery cool... very fast...

Pros: Easy to setup... and very easy to use. Support both ESATA and USB connection to the P.C. Standard MSD class without the need for any drivers.

Cons: On the Thecus web site there is very little drives listed as compatible... so I used two 250GB Samsung drives that is not listed and it worked fine. Because of fear of incompatibility... I did not buy the drives from Newegg... but instead bought it in a brick and mortar store even though I wanted to buy it from Newegg since it was much cheaper.

Other Thoughts: I already have a NAS raid 1 system but network transfers of large files are slow even on a gigabit network. This product made things faster for me when I am working on my work station with the peace of mind of raid 1.
