2 out of 5 eggsI/O Error Frustrated

Pros: good interface, love battery and dual rom backup

Cons: I/O errors require constant rebooting, I have auto reboot set every night which reduced frequency. RMA one, but still have I/O errors and tech support int then US were not helpful and took forever to issue RMA. Not a good choice for production grade, might be ok for home use.

Other Thoughts: Looking for something better to replace these.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor External Drive Support

Pros: Time to format the 3 3TB drive array was less than expected.

Network sharing (samba, AFP) work fine.

Cons: Would like to use an external drive to backup the raid array incase of system failure. Have tried a variety of USB drives. Seagate and Western Digital. All the USB rives work fine under windows XP, Windows 7 and Ubuntu. I can plug them into the Thecus unit and set up a task via the USB/eSata Automatic File Backup. The backup job will work fine for about 2 weeks. At which point it will throw and error and from that point forward the USB disk will no longer allow you to select it as a target disk for automatic backup. The USB disk will appear to be functional as it will appear in the Storage/disk information, just not usable.

I figured it was just a fluke with the USB driver, so I swapped to a eSata disk (seagate). Yes the disk works fine with Windows XP, windows 7 and Ubuntu. Same issue happens. You can configure a backup that will work fine for about 2 weeks, throw an error and that disk will no longer be useable for a backup task.

2 out of 5 eggs2 out of 4 chassis failures

Pros: Easy to configure, nice web interface, great features.

Cons: Of the three clients we've put these in for, the first two were raid 5 and run fine, the third client we did raid 10 and have had two chassis fail with 'failed drive' indicators on slot 3. Replace the drive and the same things happens before we can even rebuild the array. The first unit was replaced under warranty, now I have to jump through those hoops again and my client it put out. I can raplace the bad unit, but I can't replace the lost credibility.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast setup and user friendly interface.

Raid setup was easy and stable works great with 4x SAMSUNG F4 HD204UI 2TB Internal Hard Drive.

Super fast network transfers.

The front readout is clean and easy to understand.

The thing is whisper quiet and looks stylish as well.

Cons: The web interface was wonky under http:// but works great under https://

The network cable that it came with was a cheap cable that had some issues so I just made a new cable from cat6 cable and solved any initial issues I was having setting it up.

Other Thoughts: I would highly suggest this system to anyone and I would also suggest reading up on RAID settings if your not sure what is best for you.

5 out of 5 eggsvery fast

Pros: very fast, after the easy initial setup, it only took about five hours to populate 4x2TB as raid 5. no problems so far. Transfer speeds around 100 MBps

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I have only samba/CIFS and apple share enabled. everything else is off. The unit needed a firmware update right out of the box.

5 out of 5 eggsExtremely Fast NAS

Pros: Extremely fast, Quiet, User friendly interface, RAID expandable, Battery back up module, Dual DOM chip, and it supports up to 4 X 3TB hard drives.

Cons: Need to download complete user manual online, no SSD on the HDD compatibility list.

Other Thoughts: The read and write speed are very impressive. It has no problem to have many users access it at the same time. I can download BT files direct to this device, use it as virtual drive, and have multiple user watch HD videos at the same time. The battery can only less for 10 minutes, but its good enough to finish transfer most of the files. The dual DOM is good, so my user access priviledge and other setting can be backed up as well. It is a rare function for most of the NAS. The drive tray is hot swattable. It can use both 2.5" and 3.5" drives, but the lock isn't very helpful. Good for business and home users.

4 out of 5 eggsHappy, for a a picky NAS buyer.

Pros: Easy to set up drives... Web interface is sophisticated and clean. Very fast; I can max out my GigE easy on large files... much faster than a USB and anything connected directly to the switch it dangles off of performs great!

Cons: 1. Does not default to DHCP - This will require you to adjust your local network settings to configure.

2. Did not come with the latest firmware... You need the latest to get desired performance.

3. Does not seem to go to sleep. ( The Wake On Lan and HD spin down features don't seem to work? ) There is no way for me to tell ( since I do not measure the power draw and the LEDs are always on. )

Other Thoughts: Used 4 Western Digital Caviar Black WD2002FAEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive ; No problems.

No ding on the NAS but Win7 does not normally index network drives. If you want to add a folder to your libraries Win7 requires an index. Work around is to add via MediaPlayer.
