Thecus is well known in the market for always putting innovative hardware and state of the art technology on the table for a fair price in order to guarantee customers the best value. Thecus’s new N4100EVO NAS offers a broad range of advanced features and differentiate themselves with low-energy hardware for those who place strong value on cutting down their electricity costs and carbon footprint. This cost-effective hardware is the first four-bay NAS on the market to feature the speedy and efficient dual-core Cavium CPU to get the quick transfer speeds necessary for large backups and heavy use. The N4100EVO is designed to change the way you run your office, at home or at work.

Dual Core CPU
The N4100EVO doesn't bust your budget and still has plenty of power to throw around. It integrates a Cavium dual-core processor, making file sharing, web hosting, and even heavy data backups easy and fast. This four bay NAS will also have 2 USB 2.0 ports for easy data backup to and from external hard drives and an LCD screen for more convenient administration.

Hardware RAID and the Powerful XOR Engine
The XOR Engine makes the N4100EVO the first SMB/home NAS on the market to use dedicated hardware to lighten the load of building RAID and free up the CPU to keep your NAS running fast. The N4100EVO embeds a dedicated XOR engine in order to speed up all RAID 5 computations and minimize one of the main drawbacks of RAID protection: rebuilding time!

A Well Rounded Software Bundle
It is important to give users the support and applications they need to take full advantage of storing and networking their data. That’s why Thecus provides a lot of useful tools to be sure their NAS can be pushed to the fullest extent. If you feel you are a tinkerer, you can also develop your own modules and share them with the community.

Thecus Firmware includes support for all the newest advances: XFS, 3TB HDD, SATAIII HDD, an open source module system, and more. The powerful Acronis Backup software makes backups easy and keeps your data safe!

A wide array of free modules are available from www.thecus.com or the Thecus UI, including:

  • A download manager for BitTorrent, eMule and HTTP. You don’t even need to switch on your computer!
  • The brand new Piczza! photo server, which allows you to share your pictures with friends and family in a smart and easy-to-use interface.
  • A Web Disk module to upload and download data simply and easily to and from your NAS.
    • newegg DLNA-Compliant Media Server Thecus NAS make an excellent media server and can easily store huge libraries of songs, pictures, and movies. The DLNA-Compliant Media Server allows you to stream all of your multimedia on your TV, stereo, or mobile device.
    • newegg Acronis True Image Thecus brings the best to the table with Acronis’s advanced backup software. Back up all your data with One-click Protection or pick and choose only your most important files. Acronis sports a slick interface, user-friendly design, and comprehensive features to keep your data safe.
    • newegg RAID Accelerator RAID5 is the ideal compromise between safety and speed for 4-bay NAS. However, (re)building RAID can be an arduous process and take many hours while reducing the NAS overall performance. The N4100EVO’s RAID accelerator builds RAID5 quicker with a dedicated chip, saving you time and keeping the main CPU available for other tasks.
    • newegg Rsync Backing up your data is very necessary, and everyone has specific needs when it comes to storage. Thecus’s Rsync functionality gives users great flexibility with remote backup capability, a flexible scheduler, and the stability of Linux-based transfer.
    • newegg Energy Saving The power needed to keep your NAS up and running can greatly add to its overall cost. Lower your Total Cost of Ownership with the N4100EVO's advanced power saving features. With scheduled power on/off, you can tell your N4100EVO to only turn on during certain times during the day. And with auto disk spindown and an enhanced power saving design, the N4100EVO is a veritable energy miser.
    • newegg AJAX Getting your N4100EVO up and running shouldn't be a hassle, which is why it comes equipped with a Simple Setup Wizard to guide you through the entire setup process. Once you're up and running, the new AJAX-based user interface makes using the N4100EVO simple and hassle-free.

1 out of 5 eggsSupport is awfull

Pros: None Thecus a company that makes junk.

Cons: I have a 2 bay unit that is not recognized by the system using the approved drives. Tech support will not respond to email. If you call you will be on hold for ever. Have units from Sans Digital , Zyxel and Buffalo
    with no problems

5 out of 5 eggsReliable, Solid and Easy to setup

Pros: Silent, Solid, Easy to implement.

    Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have 4 SAMSUNG SPINPOINT 1.5 TB in it. I cannot hear a thing. It is easy to setup (you have to read the documentation BEFORE you start pushing buttons.) it plays nicely with Windows or Linux . There are tons of options and tools to use it. I also have the 5500 and I am contemplating buying the 7700.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid NAS product

Pros: This is great product, I don't really understand two previous negative reviews. Build of this NAS is top notch, is solid and substantial. I tried couple other NAS before deciding to keep this one (Synology and Qnap). Other products were flimsy and built from cheap plastic. Thecus is mostly metal, with nice bay locks.

Cons: Transfer speed can be higher, but not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: I have four 2TB Samsung drives installed, giving me about 6TB of storage space. I can stream my media to my TV through wireless router and it works very well.

You should upgrade memory that comes with this NAS, you will notice hike in performance.

Overall I am very satisfied and recommend this drive!

1 out of 5 eggsUnstable and bad product

    Pros: Nice Case
    Interesting idea

Cons: 1) dropping RAID with no warnings
    2) failing Hard drive where is it not true
    3) slow Web UI
    4) Fan runs fast
    5) RAID build takes more than 30 hours
    6) hard drive bays make of plastic and can easily break
    7) bad documentations

Other Thoughts: DO NOT WASTE YOU TIME ON THIS POOR PRODUCT!
I got this product 2 weeks ago and was trying to set it up as RAID 5 for no avail.
When I got it, i read some of the bad English documentation / videos. I have upgraded the device to its latest firmware and thought i'm good to go.
I installed 4 x 1.5 TB hard drives that are in the supported list, set it up as RAID5 and started to wait. It took 30+ hours just to set up the RAID and when it was done I started to transfer my 450 GB to the NAS (thinking i'm good to go). Looking at the transfer rate I was amaze how slow it was even though all my devices are connected to 1 Gb hub.
After around 75% of the transfer was done (which took also good amount of hours i think it was 8 hours or so) hard drive 3 showed as failed. I googled a little bit to find their forum and found many people saying that after the hard drive on slot 3 failed the whole raid failed as well so I did a short back up of my data and when that was done the whole RAID failed. I replaced the hard drive with a new one and started my second RAID build. 30+ hours after I started to move my data again this time after 20% of the data was over both HD 3 and HD 4 failed making my RAID useless and non functional. I turned off the NAS letting it rest (at that point the fan got to 2300-2500 RPM) and when I started it again (I didn't remove the hard drives from their slot and they couldn't have been removed because I locked it with the key) it said that I have no RAID set up.
So once again I was on a 30+ hours RAID 5 setup (thinking 3rd time was the charm) when that was done, I thought maybe I just transfer something to big (which at that point I also thought if that is true what is the point of a NAS) so I started to copy small amount of data, well at one point if failed again on drive 3 and at this point I was just giving up and set up RMA with newegg.

my personal thoughts from my personal experience of this device (after multiple RAID configurations) are.... DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS DEVICE! the company is hiding their bad product behind many "add ons" software that can do this or that, but really what is it for if you cannot configure your NAS successfully!

I'm running now a different NAS from a different company and the same setup (RAID5 with 4x1.5 TB hard drives) takes only 8 hours to configure and I have no problems. Fan is running between 1300 - 1500 RPM!!

I should have done some more research about this company and not just trust reviews from users. Their forum is full of people that have issues with their RAID5 configurations and losing GBs of data.

Do yourself a favor, and stay away from this product.
    Save your Time,
    Save your sanity,
    Save your money!

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible, just plain horrible

    Pros: It's quiet.

Cons: Where to start, where to start...
OK...the rear USB ports are non functional for external USB drives. Support said that this will be fixed in a new firmware upgrade. That was 3 firmware releases ago and still no resolution.
The error logs generate nightly errors with the Rsync backup, which are horribly worded and provide absolutely no actionable items.
We started receiving file system errors way too frequently. I went to run the file system checker utility, and it returned an error. Support then told me that you cannot run the file system checking utility when an external drive is plugged into it. Really???
Basically, this device is a nightmare in waiting. Do not purchase this item under any circumstances.

    Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsFirst NAS

    Pros: 4 Bay

    Raid5

Solid design, doesn't feel cheap and love the looks.

Cons: The UI has some slow loading times.

Seems like it takes a bit to be ready, like 1 or 2 minutes. But it does beep when ready.

Seems a bit loud and runs about 2000rpm.

Other Thoughts: I have never owned another NAS so if some of my cons are normal I apologize.

I am more disappointed I have to redo my raid because windows software raid and this controller obviously don't match up, a little overwhelmed. I believe once I have it all setup I wont have any problems.

Wish I could have bought at Newegg but I got such a great deal I had to go the other way.
