Building on the success of the popular N2200PLUS, Thecus is releasing a new 2-bay model aimed for home use. The N2200EVO provides users good speed and great value, with transfer rates over 50MB/s and a host of backup. Thus, multimedia functions makes it easy to keep data safe while creating movies, music, and photo hub for your home.

The N2200EVO’s dual-core Cavium processor is powerful enough to handle large backups, web hosting, photo serving, multiple users, and even streaming HD video. Although it is ideally suited for home use, with a maximum capacity of 6TB it can also easily fit into a small business environment to act as a central cloud storage or backup server among many other things. To cut down its carbon footprint as well as save on electric bills, the dual-core Cavium has extremely low power usage and with scheduled power on/off, the N2200EVO will only be on when it needs to be.

- Thecus Firmware includes support for all the newest advances: XFS, 3TB HDD, SATAIII HDD, an open source module system, and more.
- The powerful Acronis Backup software makes backups easy and keeps your data safe!
- A wide array of free modules are available from or the Thecus UI, including:

a. A download manager for BitTorrent, eMule and HTTP. You don’t even need to switch on your computer!
b. The brand new Piczza! photo server, which allows you to share your pictures with friends and family in a smart and easy-to-use interface.
c. A Web Disk module to upload and download data simply and easily to and from your NAS.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute Headache

Pros: - Cooling system works well

Cons: - Arrived with a broken door (Cheap Plastic)
- Slow, Slower, Slowest..
- Support is a joke
- Firmware updates make it worse
- Very basic User/Group management
- Countless logical issues

Other Thoughts: Very disappointing. The demo on the website seemed awesome. Do your research before purchasing. I recommend browsing the forums and reading about some of the issues.

4 out of 5 eggsReasonably good for the price

Pros: - Very inexpensive
- Metal Chassis, solid construction
- Small footprint
- Easy-to-use interface, consistent with the Thecus family

Cons: - Slow performance
- Interface is missing the System Monitor module of the other Thecus firmwares (but then again, this is a LOT cheaper)
- Only 256 mb RAM (but you can increase this easily with laptop memory)
- No ZFS file system support (but seriously, at this price-point who should expect it?)
- No iSCSI (again... expectations)

Other Thoughts: We have roughly 2 dozen Thecus units deployed, ranging from these SOHO units all the way up to the high-end rackmount units. Of that #, we have about 6 of these out in the field. No reliability issues, decent price-point performance. People potty-mouth this device for missing features or speed. Seriously folks... you are paying $160 for a dual-bay well-made NAS with a rich feature set. Get realistic. This is perfect for SOHO use as a backup device or even a rudimentary file server. Is it suited for the 10 employee office? Of course not. How about a 2 person home office? Now you're talking.

2 out of 5 eggsNot a good sugestion

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Poor firmware, questionable support

Other Thoughts: After months of service, backups started failing. N2200 reported "You don't have any RAID system". No other errors and shares not availible. Support remote logged in and fixed it. They called it a 1 time RAID recovery for free. I call it a device error that should be fixed for free. The N2200 reports that the RAID and Disks are healthy. If there is an error with the disks, the Thecus device should report it. I cannot recommend this to anyone until Thecus fixes this issue
