1 out of 5 eggsNetwork DOA

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Does not work.
It has trouble maintaining a network connection.
I transferred 40GB to my 6TB NAS when it failed.
Newegg wants me to pay for return shipping.

Other Thoughts: Waste of time and money.
Thecus documentation is in poor English.
NewEgg openbox has lost my confidence.

1 out of 5 eggsOut of the box failure

Pros: None.

Cons: Never worked. The network couldn't see it. I spent about 2 hours troubleshooting with help from Forums. Gave up.

1 out of 5 eggsOwn one unit and bought a second one

Pros: None for the second unit, the review for the first one is below, which I loved

Cons: DOA, never initialized, blinking blue power light forever. Hopefully the replacement works. I love my first one which I still use daily.

Other Thoughts: The first one I bought works perfectly but this second one that I got for a bargain around black friday has been a disappointment. Really hoping that the replacement works.

1 out of 5 eggsIt is a defect

Pros: Nothing-- because it never worked period!

Cons: It is a defect. Failed on initial setup. Every time, it shut itself down seconds after trying to RAID my hard disk, with "Critical System Error".

3 out of 5 eggsCould be wayyyyy better

Pros: -Great for basic NAS application (sharing 1-2 HDDs)
-Works great for HTPCs
-OS is OK for configuring NAS

Cons: -BitTorrent client making NAS crash every hour or so, have to reset it to be able to access it again. One the reasons why I bought this. Still have to leave PC on all night sometimes because of this.
-LEDs are very bright, manufacturers need to understand they don't need to be that bright

Other Thoughts: Overall, good purchase for the price, 2-bay, network access. But I'd prefer they stayed in the 200$+ bracket to prevent having incomplete products put on the market, like this one. But as I said, except the BitTorrent crashing, this is just fine, but the mobile apps are so-so...

In other words, if you can afford it, spend 250-300$, you'll end up with something more stable!

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb

Pros: Fastest NAS in its price range. This puppy averages around 100MB/s read/write. (Sometimes a little faster depending on the file type)

I have 2 3TB WD Red HDD in mine, and this thing just screams when backing up files / streaming them.

I can stream full 1080p Blu-rays without a single hitch with this thing!

Cons: Blue light on power brick. Its rather annoying, but nothing a piece of electric tape didn't fix!

Other Thoughts: Perfect for backups, streaming movies, and so much more!

4 out of 5 eggsGood speeds for a good price

Pros: Extremely fast speeds. I have two other dual bay NAS devices and this thing is by far the fastest I have. The other two are DLink DNS-321 which runs around 15MB/s up and down (extremely slow); QNAP TS-212E which runs about 35MB/s write, 72.5MB/s read (took 3 days to write 5 TB worth of data onto it); This Thecus N2310 does 80+MB/s write and 100+MB/s read

Cons: The OS features are virtually non-existent. There is very little instructions and it comes with a CD which I haven't had a CD drive since 2008. The website has a download area that doesn't tell you exactly what they have for download. I have no idea how to set up users on this thing. I set up a user and it disappears. Doesn't require any log in, so anyone connected to the network can access and write files to this thing, which isn't bad for me because I have a closed network but all my other NAS devices need to log in to read/write to their drives which I like.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a storage unit that you can load your files into quickly then this is the right NAS for you, granted you've had some basic exposure to NAS devices. Don't expect much in terms of apps and other features.

1 out of 5 eggsNOT IMPRESSED!

Pros: Cost would have been a PRO.....If the unit worked.

Cons: The unit was DOA. It never completed it's initialization (the flashing blue power LED never stopped). I checked my firewall for a DHCP lease, nothing. I checked Thecus Forums, many people were having problems with firmware or initialization, I wish I could have gotten that far. I tried a cross-over cable to a laptop with a static IP, running a WireShark capture, the NAS never attempted a DHCP request.

Other Thoughts: I don't normally post reviews, but in the process of troubleshooting this unit (and I own an older Thecus 3200pro that I love) I found out how terrible, incomplete, and lacking the information and troubleshooting is for these systems. Their manuals have terrible (and often confusing) grammar mistakes, or are lacking in key information. My other NAS (the 3200Pro) has a better build quality, and hardware function buttons for viewing status.....this unit has a flashing blue light. I should have known based on the cost, now I am out the return shipping. 15 bucks lost.

Don't fall for cheap.....I won't again.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for home user's

Pros: Very easy to set up. Fast transfer speeds. Has a lot of features that I am still exploring.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I was really surprised how fast it was to back up my music and movies.
