5 out of 5 eggsNAS that gets it done and then some!

Pros: Everything works. Easy to use. Can do more things than the average user will ever need but just in case there they are! Backup your files and never worry due to the Raid 1 if you use it,please do. It's a mini server, not very powerful but WAY up to the task of the average user. My Xbox 360 loves this thing, easily getting at my saved movies and family pictures. It will even download your torrents for you saving the energy of a PC running while you sleep. It has a sleep mode, it has auto Hard drive shutdown after 30 mins built in. Its only 60 watts to run it, thats probably about 300 watts less than your computer takes and even less when it shuts off the hard drives which consume most of the power. For Backup of your important files the home user couldn't do better with two 500 gig hard drives or even bigger in raid 1. Even shares your printer over the network if you plug it in.

Cons: I don't really have anything to complain about since it serves as a network backup device with outstanding reliability. Plus throws in alot of other things like a multimedia server, web server, bit torrent download server and more.

Other Thoughts: The Twonky media server is a real bonus if you have devices plugged into your network that can access it such as an Xbox360. This little thing has transformed our household computer use and we rely heavily on it and it has performed admirably.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Performer

Pros: The raid configuration makes this a good option for storing family pictures and other files on the network that I would really hate to lose

Cons: No sleep mode.

Other Thoughts: The Qnap can do a lot more then I use it for. With 2 500 gig hard drives, I have plenty of storage without running another PC.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Very satisfied with this device. Running RAID 1 (mirror). Fast, very quiet, sleeps after 30 minutes (default bu user modifiable), wakes-up instantly, didn't use the software - found IP with an IP scanner ("Angry IP Scanner"). Build quality is good. Lots of features which I am not using. I am just using it for backup across a network.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Thanks for the free DVD player that came with it!

5 out of 5 eggsSSH Access

Pros: Quiet, easy to use once you understand how it works.

Mechanical Design is outstanding.

Cons: Transfers are a bit slow IMHO

Other Thoughts: For the person asking about SSH access. There are two firmware versions available. One with SSH, and owe without.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: VEry quiet, TONS of very kool features and working flawless.
Installation was quik and breeze.

Cons: A little slow on file transfer, the 2 USB ports don't seem to be configured to allow 2 printers as I connected 2 different Epson priters but only gave 1 name and does not indicate which port so u will not know which driver to apply

Other Thoughts: In general this is a very good appliance and it's worth every bit of the price.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking good

Pros: Easy to connect to from windows, or web/ftp interface. The user & group management work well. Setup was easy, and haven't had any problems since set up

Cons: web interface can be slow, but not horrible. Wish I could set up SSH to the box, haven't tried to find a way, but not readily apparent.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product!!!

Pros: One of the best products I have owned. Great idea and good exicution. 10 minutes set up minus formatting time. Great options and features.

Cons: Three things, one during the quick install I could not get a static ip to stick, manually doing it worked fine. As for hot swappable, this has not worked for me, needed a restart everytime i tried, some times stalling. Documentation, but even if you have a little tech know how it is pretty self explanitory.

Other Thoughts: tried 6 different hard drives, 5 of which were not on their recommended hard drives and they all worked fine, maxtors 300, 400, 500 GB drives. Have not tried the seagate 750 GB drive yet, that is next. So far have not had any real problems, most everything is pretty self explanitory. Have not had to use technical service yet, but emailed them before I bought the product with some questions and they got back to me with in 24 hours so i have had no problems. User manuel is on the cd that comes with the product in a pdf.

2 out of 5 eggsFails, low customer support

Pros: Has a lot of features, shows promise. Seems to work OK 90% of the time. Low power and quiet.

Cons: Quick install wizard failed even though I used recommended disks. I worked around this bug by manually setting up. Firmware will crash unexpectedly requiring a reboot (happened >5 times in a month). Does not actually perform as a gigabit device, performance is slightly worse than 100MBit (using RAID 1). Customer support has not answered any of 3 support requests. Supports only 1 printer as a print server.

4 out of 5 eggsGot the rights figured out...

Pros: Reasonably fast. Nice design. Quiet. See other review.

Cons: Documentation is horrible. There is a LOT going on in this box, and they assume everyone is a NetAdmin. Documentation needs to be better for average users.

Odd Jumbo Frames support options.

Other Thoughts: Figured out the rights issue. It was more understanding the interface than anything else.
