TS-259 Pro+ houses up to two 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drives, incorporates Intel Atom 1.8GHz dual core processor and 1GB memory, and is capable of delivering ultra high performance, reliability, and lower power consumption during intensive data transfers. The NAS is an efficient and powerful business storage center with advanced iSCSI services, cross-platform data sharing, and all-in-one server applications. With VMware Ready and Citrix Ready certification, and proven compatibility with Microsoft Hyper-V environment, the NAS is an ideal shared storage solution in the virtualized and clustered environment.

  • newegg The Most Affordable and Flexible Virtualization Solution TS-259 Pro+ is certified as compatible with VMware vSphere4 (ESX 4.0 and above) and Citrix XenServer virtualization platforms, and is also compliant with Windows 2008 Failover Cluster. The NAS can be utilized as the network shared storage of VMware, Citrix virtualization environments and Windows clustered servers. Comparing with traditional SAN (Storage Area Network), the NAS is a competitive alternative with much lower setup and maintenance costs in an IP SAN.
  • newegg Feature-rich and Integrated Applications for Business The NAS supports file sharing across Windows, Mac, Linux, and UNIX platforms. Versatile business applications such as file server, FTP server, printer server, web server, and Windows AD (Active Directory) support are provided. The dominant features, such as WebDAV, Share Folder Aggregation (also known as DFS), IPv6 and IPv4 dual-stack, Wake on LAN, schedule power on/ off, HDD S.M.A.R.T, comprehensive log systems, and policy-based unauthorized IP blocking are all included.
  • newegg New iSCSI/ IP-SAN for Virtualization Deployments Turbo NAS provides flexible and secure storage server deployment with enhanced iSCSI features. Turbo NAS can serve as a NAS (network-attached storage) for file sharing and an iSCSI storage concurrently. The NAS supports multiple LUNs (Logical Unit Numbers) and iSCSI targets. The LUNs can be flexibly mapped to, unmapped from, and switched among different iSCSI targets. Designed with CHAP authentication and LUN masking, the advanced ACL (Access Control List) offers you the capability to block the access from unauthorized initiators. Comparing with the high cost of Fibre Channel SAN, Turbo NAS is an affordable system that can be deployed as a storage center for virtualized and clustered server environments, such as VMware, Citrix and Microsoft Windows Failover Cluster.
  • newegg Storage Expansion by Virtual Disk Drive (VDD) The NAS supports flexible storage expansion by stacking other iSCSI targets on the network via its built-in iSCSI initiator. The connected iSCSI targets are turned into "virtual disk drives" of the NAS to provide more storage capacity.
  • newegg Superior Performance and Energy-saving Design The NAS delivers superior performance and high reliability for critical business applications. It is optimized to achieve low noise and low power consumption for environment protection.
  • newegg Advanced RAID Management with Hot-swap Design Turbo NAS offers RAID 0, 1, single, and JBOD disk configurations. It also supports hot-swap design that a failed member drive of a RAID configuration (RAID 1 or above only) can be replaced by hot swapping without turning off the server.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product!

Pros: Bought several of these for our district construction offices and have had no failures nor DOA's. We have a TS-859U+ in our corporate office that receives replication jobs created and manged in the TS-219/259 series QNAP's, and couldn't be happier with a boxed product.

AD integration works well. Using surveillance station with IP Camera's. Folder sharing is easy once you get used to it.

Easily turn off features your not interested in.

Cons: Automatically registration in DNS is flaky, manual entry required.
SMS Notification through clickatell sucks.

4 out of 5 eggsLove it, but disappointed.

Pros: Very easy to install & configure. Lot's of features. Online Raid Expansion. Great Performance. iSCSI.

Cons: TFTP Server is read-only. So forget about it backing up your network switches/routers as you can't write to it. What are you supposed to do with a read-only TFTP server? The Twonky media server web admin console does not work out of the box.

Other Thoughts: I would buy again, but the features that do not work, or do not work out of the box was a huge disappointment. If the features you care about are working correctly, DO NOT upgrade the firmware. I was able to fix the Twonky web admin console. We'll see if Qnap answers my support request on the TFTP issue.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best!

Pros: Hands down one of the best NAS units around. I would defiantly buy another one of these! Way overpowered for what you will need. Can handle anything you can throw at this unit. Good job QNap keep up the good work.

Cons: Flawless so not one!

Other Thoughts: Wishing i would have got the 4 or 5 bay model and maybe the proII but this drive really throws out the files and everything u want it to do fast. 110MB/sec through windows networking(samba) over gigabit lan.

5 out of 5 eggsHigh performance, small, quiet NAS

Pros: Good performance
Good firmware with constant enhancements and fixes

Cons: A bit more expensive than similar NASes

Other Thoughts: I decided to try QNAP as I found Thecus support a bit lacking with their N5200 firmware features. Very satisfied with this NAS. A beta firmware is also in the works with a VPN server and other goodies.

5 out of 5 eggsUltimate Media Server

Pros: Easy setup and great user interface. My useful are simple to install using Qpkg system. PhpMyAdmin, Optware and many fmore. Multimedia Qpkgs for awesome media apps. SickBeard, Sabnzbd, CouchPotato and Headphones.
There is a Plex Media Server Qpkg that will work iwth XBMC as well.
Lowest price Qnap with Intel Atom Dual Core. Blow the Marvel based units away. Host up to 30 websites on this box using Virtual Hosts

Cons: Price, but but you can not compare this unit to common every day NAS boxes.
Unit is much cheaper than when I bought it.

Other Thoughts: I use to host a couple of websites. Primary use it media server ruinng Plex Media Server and I have several client connected. It works flawlessly.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: The QNAP TS 259 Pro+ is ridiculous, I get transfer speeds roughly from 80-120 Mbps. Of course its way more then just a NAS, it performs multiple functions. I have mine setup for a seed box, web server, time-machine server, multimedia server, etc..

Cons: None, if your simply coming from a windows background it might be a little difficult if you try to do more advanced tasks since its linux based.

Other Thoughts: Using two Seagate Barracuda XT ST32000641AS 2TB in raid 0

5 out of 5 eggsQNAP 239 Pro

Pros: Polished user interface, lots of protocols supported, dual NIC ports, setup wizard, good throughput and easy to use. Can upload directly to AWS S3 Cloud Storage and is aware of block transfers.

Cons: I install two brand new WD 7200 1TB FALS drives, and one of them was bad. However, the QNAP hung on the last step of the setup Wizard, which is where the drives get formatted. It stayed on 20% for over 12 hours. Since it was my first time around with the QNAP, I let it sit there. As soon as I replaced the faulty drive and RESET the QNAP it worked like a champ.

Suggestion to product support group, would be to query S.M.A.R.T. properties on drives first during setup and/or run a short integrity test to valid the drives, THEN proceed with the RAID container configuration and formatting steps so the user has a chance of staying in the loop when this type of problem occurs.

Other Thoughts: I have a lot of experience with Buffalo Technology, NetGear, SeaGate and Broadberry. None of the other products can compare in the sense that the QNAP does so much. Even if you only need it as an FTP server, who knows what you'll need it for three years down the road. Very versatile product.

AND, VERY IMPORTANT The QNAP is the ONLY device I have worked with that allows you to configure the power-on state after you lose power to the device. If you are using this device as a backup storage target, then you have to have that feature.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent NAS

Pros: Using as server for 3 person office.
2 WD 500GB RE4 drives in RAID 1.
Very fast! Very quiet. This is just what I've been wanting. Easy enough set up. 1-touch data dump to external drive.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performer

Pros: Well-built; extremely fast and quiet. Compared with the performance of my former NAS (Infrant - now NetGear -ReadyNAS NV+) the QNAP TS-259 Pro+ is much, much, much faster and very notably quieter with a much more sophisticated and capable software suite. If you can afford the freight, this is perhaps the best 2-bay NAS device on the market today.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I did a lot of research in advance of making this purchase, so I might add that it wasn't a great surprise that the QNAP TS-259 Pro+ performs as well as it does.

5 out of 5 eggsExceptional product

Pros: I bought this to replace a DNS-321. Wow, talk about orders of magnitude better. I went from average of 10mb/sec to between 80 and 120mb/sec. Pairing the nics is a great feature, supports 9k jumbo frames MTU.

The interface is polished. I was able to download a current firmware update file and apply it without issue.

So far this NAS has exceeded my expectations.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Loaded with 2x SAMSUNG Spinpoint F4 HD204UI 2TB
