4 out of 5 eggsDecent performance for price

Pros: very stable and oh so much better than nay mainstream comsumer brands such as linksys, netgear, etc..
many more support protocols such as iscsi than the consumer brands too. Most NASs i tested were anywhere from 10-30mb/s and this QNAP clocks in about 60 via ftp and samba.

Cons: pricey, could build a small itx system for the same price with bsd for much better performance. Only reason to purchase a good NAS is for power consumption

5 out of 5 eggsVery easy to set up and use

Pros: The setup was a breeze, and QNAP's firmware/web interface is very user friendly. I had never set up a RAID array before, but I wanted some data redundancy to protect some of my more important files from hard disk failure. I opted for two 3TB drives. Installing the drives took minutes and formatting them into a RAID1 (mirroring) array was as easy as the click of a button. The web interface looks great and QNAP is always releasing updates for it, which are a breeze to install if you use the auto update feature. It was very easy to set up the drive as a DLNA media server and stream my media to my smart TV. You can also one-click install apps from the web interface for other features, such as web servers, download tools, surveillance tools, CMS, developer tools, SQL servers, GIT repository, etc. I highly recommend this product.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't recommend placing the unit on carpet because the intake fan is on the bottom of the unit and causes the temps to raise up a little bit. I recently moved it to the corner of the top of my desk behind my center monitor so it is still out of sight but better ventilated. My room is at about 76F right now and the unit is holding steady at 43C (hard drives between 40-41C)

4 out of 5 eggsGood for what it is.

Pros: 2 HDD bays
RAID 0 supported
TONS of features and options
CloudNAS
Android/iOS app
Price
Gigabit ethernet

Cons: SATA II max
Install instructions a little vague
Requires certain ports on your router to be open to access NAS from Cloud or phone app, which may or may not open on your router
Phone app crashes a LOT!! Has limited codex support
White? In a full black setup, it sticks out like a sore thumb (just kidding, this isn't a real con ;-) )

Other Thoughts: I have NO issues recommending this NAS to anyone. A little confusing for beginners, but enough options for most people in a Home NAS setup. Customer support is pretty great too. Fast, courteous service.

3 out of 5 eggsGood but not great

Pros: I bought this primarily for storing movies and streaming across the LAN and internet. Setup is simple and straightforward. Web based interface is a pleasure to use. Access control is thorough and allows you to have a detailed level of control over different users (specific folders, remote access, personal folders on NAS). Does not lag when streaming 4 different movies (4-7gb each) simultaneously.

Cons: The QNAP mobile app is restricted to streaming mp4s only that are less than 2gb in size. Means that I cannot stream 99% of my movies when I am away from the house. On the qnap forums, multiple posts have asked about these issues but the company has either chosen not to reply or shifted the blame on apple. Other App Store apps don't have these problems.

Other Thoughts: Running 2x 3TB seagate hdds in JBOD mode for a 6TB capacity.

5 out of 5 eggsBest NAS that I have

Pros: A ton of features and built in applications. This little guy does everything I need and more. Media, photo station, file sharing DLNA for xbox viewing pleasure.

Drive options are wide and many. I am using the WE Red line, and love the speed and reliability.

So far no issues other then a small streaming issue with the built in twonky app. Turned out to be just a app setting to increase the streaming buffer.

Other then that one small issue I love this little guy.

Cons: Price is a little high if you are looking for just a NAS. You only get the best bang for the buck, if you plan on using a majority of the features.

Other Thoughts: For me personally, to know if this is a good buy. Would I buy this product again knowing what I know now? YES.

Would I recommend this to my Geek friends? YES.

2 out of 5 eggsNot a good product

Pros: NIce looking product and easy to set up

Cons: Software/firmware does not operate as described in the manual. The product could not be reset to factory defaults as detailed in the manual. Unit is extremely slow even over a 1Gig Ethernet network. Unit really needs a better processor with better execution time.

Other Thoughts: buy a better product and do not waste your time unless you do not mind looking online for solutions and have a lot of time to waste on this to boot up and communicate with the network.

4 out of 5 eggsBacks Up Well

Pros: Cool looking; bright white; blue LED lights the room; was able to get it working somewhat...; backs up your information; really nice UI for managing the NAS

Cons: From my earlier review, there was a lot to the setup that was causing problems, but eventually it turned out to be HDD failure causing a lot of issues. The only con I have now is that I can't seem to run more than 2-3 services otherwise the SAMBA connection drops out.

Other Thoughts: Good purchase. So far, it's been keeping my videos & pictures backed up, along with some school work, and hasn't failed yet. I like it, now that I found out the hard drives I installed were to blame.
