2 out of 5 eggsDamage my files

Pros: Great interface and feature. I can access the desktop interface, files/folders and share files/folders from https and smartphone. Sync up with google and dropbox. These the only reason I put 2 stars

Cons: The server start rebooting and crashing multiple times, even in one day. The firmware update that suppose to fix the issue gave me errors and damage my storage system. My storage is 4TB (3TB is in actual size), but somehow 2 of the folder are over 100 TB, and after a few weeks become 200TB. One of an mp3 file is 12TB. I can not back it up since all the file is mess up, and the system always crashed and shutdown automatically. Now I am in a big problem since I can not retrieve nor back up my work projects and files.

Other Thoughts: The customer support not very responsive, one time he did not answer my email for a week and said did not receive my email, and it happens multiple times. He also was not very clear on explaining the process. Now, so far, there is no solution for the retrieving my file, and to fix my storage is rebuild my RAID.

3 out of 5 eggsMemory difficult to expand

Pros: It's a decent NAS and has good apps.

Cons: I thought it would be a straight forward thing to expand the memory. QNAP doesn't provide any info about qualified memory vendors. Did some research about what the stock RAM was and ordered something similar, but the unit wouldn't boot. Then I discovered that lots of people have the same problem. Conclusion -- this isn't really an expandable memory unit.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat NAS for Home & Small Business

Pros: I have owned the 269L for a little over a month now and am very happy I purchased the unit. I researched between Qnap & Synology for quite some time before making my decision. I think both brands make a good product, but Qnap's UI appealed to me more and I am very pleased with the Apps available for the device. So far everything has worked fine. Very quiet operation, plenty of peripheral ports, dual 1Gb NICs, works nicely as a backup device for Mac Time Machine, many server type features built-in. I set mine up with two 4TB HGST NAS drives with RAID 1 for less than $700, you can't go wrong there.

Cons: - I have not had good luck with the Qfinder app; never seems to find the unit I have running on my network, so I'm not sure what's up with that. Luckily I have it statically assigned.

- We experienced a brief power outage today and when I got home the unit was powered off as expected (I don't have a UPS for it yet). I figured that I could power it right back up and have the drives come on normal, but that wasn't the case. Luckily there was no damage to the device, but it took me a while to get it back in operation as I ended up having to unplug the AC adaptor from the device for a minute, reseated the drives, plugged it back in then powered it on and the drives came back online for me. I was getting nervous there for a bit. Plan to get a UPS to hopefully avoid that issue in the future.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely recommend this product to others. Lots of built-in features for a fairly inexpensive device that provides great data protection. Good choice for both home & small business needs. Additionally the Qnap website is easy to navigate and find updates for your device. I have not had to contact support yet so I can't speak for them. I wish the Qfinder app worked as it is supposed to but that's not a deal breaker because as long as you know its address you can console in and do everything you need. Hoping it lives a long happy life. Give one a try.

Newegg did a great job getting it to me in one piece and fairly quickly to boot. Thanks for offering another great product!

5 out of 5 eggsTS-267L - I'm impressed

Pros: Well written documentation, Lots of connectivity options, very small form factor and extremely quiet. Come with a number of free add-ons, in fact, probably enough to satisfy even the advanced networking person.

Cons: Pricey for a diskless server.

Other Thoughts: Worked fine out of the box even for a small business owner like me who is self-taught in networking. While the documentation was well written, it does have some omissions that you have to hunt down on the QNAP website. The software for this server defaults to RAID 1 and if I wanted to change that, I still don't know how to do it. So much for FAQs.

I needed to replace a circa 2006 Lunix-based server on its last legs with a new file server and because we use these files every day, I had to transfer about 26,000 files (MPEG video, JPEG photos and MS Office documents) over a weekend. I installed two 2 TB WD Red drives that would take care of future expansion.

That went okay and everything works, but one caution. If you use QNAP's file manager application to migrate the files from an old server to the TS-269L, QNAP re-dates every file to that day's date. For us, that wasn't good.

It is far easier to mount the drives and use a workstation to copy (drag and drop) the files from the old server to the QNAP box That preserves the original file dates and it is much faster. I used a WIN 7 machine but WIN XP works just as well. ]

That's been my experience so far.

My five users have been using this server for about a month and I haven't heard one complaint.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible

Pros: 100% uptime for over 6 months now. No issues.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Incredibly easy to set up as a file server.

Using the QNAP as a hard drive for surveillance camera video from 5 cameras at 1.5 MB/s. This is the only storage device, with the actual video server being on a Windows 2008 Server. The Windows Server then sends the video to the QNAP for storage. Using Vivotek cameras, and the Vivotek software.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely LOVE this thing!

Pros: - Comes with a free upgrade to the Intel Atom D2701 CPU running at 2.13Ghz.
- Dual Hotswap Bays (SATA II Speeds MAX)
- Dual Gigabit NICs with teaming and failover capabilities
- Runs very cool and quiet. That is unless you have loud HDDs.
- Very robust web interface management.
- Excellent physical construction.
- Excellent TWONKY DLNA implimentation.
- TONS of extra value add features. (DHCP Server, WINS Server, VPN Server, FTP Server, MySQL Server with PHPAdmin, iTunes Server, Native Apple TimeMachine support, etc, etc, etc!

Cons: - CRASHPLAN IS NOT OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED
- Costs almost as much as an actual PC with similar specs. However there are TONS of value adds which make this a no-brainer purchase.
- The learning curve. While it is actually pretty easy, there are a TON of options and if you don't know how they all interconnect and work then it will take some time to understand and configure everything. I'd suggest messing with the box for a few days, change a ton of stuff, break it a few times and then do a factory reset. Better to get to know it BEFORE you start using it to host important data.

Other Thoughts: Dear QNAP,

PLEASE start officially supporting APPS like CrashPlan. If I could have all my friends and family sending me their crashplan backup instead of some over priced cloud service or even worse to some external hard drive that they never actually hookup, then I would be a very... VERY happy person. I'd probably send you a slice of my birthday cake every year just to say thank you! Hope you like angel-food!

5 out of 5 eggsQnap X59 & X69 Turbo NAS

Pros: These are some of the most top of the line units, Synology is the only other Mfg that is comparable. I have owned the 659 Pro II Turbo NAS w/ the Intel CPU and 3 GB memory, I am now needing another smaller unit to use as a backup device for the 659, So I am looking at the 269L with 2x 4TB drives installed.

Cons: Better have a stiff Credit Limit on your Credit Card

Other Thoughts: This NAS is not for the light hearted or the beginner, unless you want a big challange and learning curve, Although once you get it configured you will no longer be a Novice at either Networking or Network Attached Storage.
