Pros: - Fast transfer rates.
- Powerful hardware when compared to other offerings in the market.

Cons: - Software is not polished at all.
- Very buggy.
- Has many features, seems QNAP has lack of focus. What you get is a product with many features but not quality features. Wish they would narrow there focus to deliver quality over quantity.

Other Thoughts: - If you're looking for a NAS on the cheaper side with tons of features, I would recommend this. If you're looking for a NAS with high quality minus all the useless bells and whistles that come with this, look at other brands - not QNAP.

Pros: I've owned this now for a couple of weeks and it definitely has a lot of nice features like the Virtualization Station which lets you run VMs on the unit (you'll need to upgrade your RAM first most likely), but execution on its core functionality was a bit light.

Cons: The main reason I bought this unit was as a replacement for my older Server 2012 R2 Esssentials Backup solution and while it is functional for Backup, the included NetBak Replicator software is full of bugs and basically unusable. Documentation on this software was sorely lacking and even with advanced tech skills and a lot of trial and error, I was forced to give up on it.

Given that system backups are the key reason most people will purchase a NAS, this is why I rated it just two stars -- unfortunately, their forums are full of people just like me who are not very happy with the NetBak Replicator software. Time Machine backups work really well and quite easy (once you get past much of the outdated guides available on their site), but for Windows based backups, I strongly recommend a third party solution. I tested a few third party options and a couple of the free solutions like Comodo Backup and Aomei Backupper (my preferred) work quite well with the QNAP.

Other Thoughts: I would still recommend this due to the sheer hardware horsepower, but you will need to be more of an advanced user to really get the benefits out of it versus other NAS solutions.

Pros: Very easy to set up. I've never used a NAS before and it was quick and easy to set up a RAID 5 array with 4 drives. The unit is quiet and very quick. Navigating through folders is instantaneous and transfer speeds are good as well. It has an easily accessible interface from your web browser or any mobile device with a web browser. It is also easy to control access to folders from various computers, which is a nice feature.

All in all it seems to be a perfect product so far. I would highly recommend.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a good quality home NAS that has great control and ease of setup, this is an excellent choice.
