5 out of 5 eggsNot enterprise class...

Pros: ..but then it's not supposed to be. Too many so-called techies want this to replace their 4 and 5 figure RAID arrays, just to wind up disappointed. I'm loving this box! From unbox to fully functional RAID 5 in less than 2 hours (4 x 500GB). All I had to do was install drives, plug in, and turn on. Excellent media server. Will be replacing fan though, it doesn't move enough air to suit me.

Cons: None, so far. Time will tell, but I think this unit will be working out great!

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this unit for an office UNLESS you have <10 people and will only use it as a File/Print server. Transfer speeds won't keep up with large files.

5 out of 5 eggsCubestation rocks!

Pros: This device does what it claims and does it well! I was up and running within an hour. That includes drive install time, letting them warmup and performing the install. The install was a breeze!!!! I was able to join it to my Windows Active Directory quickly. The file share setup is so easy. The web photo gallery feature is so sweet. I drop a folder onto a share for the photoshare service and BAM! it creates a thumbs and gallery pages for that folder on the fly!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: You will see some sluggishness when copying large files to the drive but this is the RAID5 in action and is experienced no matter the device being used. Overall this was well worth the money and I highly recommend anyone needing a quiet and cool running box.

4 out of 5 eggsToo expensive for quality, but nice.

Pros: Cheapest for it's capabilities. Web and Photo thing is just increadable. Quiet and fast.

Cons: The construction of this unit was much cheaper than I expected. I blocked the fan with a power wire accidentally on first install that made the unit overheat (It gets VERY hot! Even with fan.) The OS is disk based, not on flash like others. The install manual is lacking all the needed detail. Fortunately I figured it out, but one part was obviously missing (the OS file location!) Should be MUCH cheaper for it's quality and component construction.

Other Thoughts: I've got Infrant NASes too, but wanted to try the web ability of this unit. The web and photo part did not disappoint. But, the construction of the unit did! It gets hot, very hot. The external power supply is too small and also gets overly hot. I'm running 4 250gig Hitachies and they are doing good. The OS install part really upset me, I guess I'm spoiled by the Infrant's flash based OS. Haven't tried backup or download redirect yet, but they seem cool.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing is awesome!

Pros: I've tried a lot of NAS solutions: Terastation, Infrant ReadyNAS, netdisk, etc. and this box just does what it supposed to do. Gigabit network worked flawlessly without having to pair it with one particular switch and and setup was dumb easy. It's fast and reliable. The two most important things you want from a NAS.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I suggest you check the forums on each NAS manufacturers site. The competition is littered with people having trouble with one thing or another. Although Synology doesn't have a forum, I thought I would give it a shot and was overwhelmingly surprised.
