5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Even with access to full fledge servers, this little guy has quickly become something I can't live without. Replication software works perfectly and I have used the SIMPLE setup VPN connection multiple times. I can not recommend this enough. Bought it for a NAS, which it is a fantastic one, using it for a NAS, VPN server, DDNS, etc, etc, etc.

Cons: Some of the phone apps are lacking, but even if they were perfect, I wouldn't need them anyway. Nothing to worry about.

Other Thoughts: If you are debating, buy this. I wished I had done it much sooner. Well worth every penny.

5 out of 5 eggsGood starter NAS

Pros: This thing has been rock solid since I got it. Before, I have been using old tower chassis and loading them with a RAID card and drives. Over the years as hard drives have been getting more dense, it has made a large footprint device for lots of storage unfeasible. I have a WD3TB Red drive in here. The features that I am used to being DHCP, DNS (recent feature addition), and just lots of space. I also use it as a Media server, iTunes server, Syslog, and Network Backup. I have been pleasantly surprised with this device and I have since bought two others ( a 212J for a friend and a 213+ for my IT team at work) and will look to Synology again for future storage needs. I am looking to have two RS812RP+ at two office locations for VMWare storage, iSCSI, and offsite replication by the end of the year.

Cons: Even with a 1 bay, I would have liked for it to have a hot-swap bay like my DS213+. Not enough to take an egg off for.

Doesn't email you when your device goes on and off of UPS power. I know there is a way around it using syslog, but it should be a standard feature. The only email notification about power is for when the UPS plug is removed or plugged in.

Other Thoughts: Word of wisdom for soon to be first time buyers or people wanting to get a smaller unit to try it out to see if you like it. While what you may need is just a 1-bay unit, think ahead. I purchased this wanting to try out Synology to see how they are and if they are worth it, and found myself wanting a 2-bay unit so that I can have RAID protection. I soon upgraded to a 213+ and haven't looked back. Transfer speeds have increased and I have FT of 1 hard drive.

5 out of 5 eggsBang for the Buck

Pros: I'm new to NAS. This product rocks! It's feature packed and has a great user interface! Silent and runs very cool. Very good transfer rates. Solid, no down time since installing beside manual restarts. Active and friendly support forum.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I purchased a WD My Book Live 3TB due to the cost point. After trying to get the transfer rates out of the KB range, I gave up and returned it. Took hours to delete a 300mb file that was on it's own hd. Decided to spend a little more money and purchased this and a WD 2TB Red HD. Total cost around $350. Money well spent! Only issue I had was that Bitdefender's firewall blocked the initial setup.

5 out of 5 eggsBest single disk NAS

Pros: Paired with a Samsung F4 2TB more than a year ago. This thing is fast and easy to setup.
Features that I am currently using: PhotoStation, blog & webserver, VPN server, Security camera, iScsi target, Backup in a joined AD domain.

Cons: eSata not support port multiplier.

Other Thoughts: I owned several NAS in the past 10 years from rudimental STEC, Iomega StorCenter, to homebuilt fileserver Intel SS4200, Atom 330, WHS, Freenas, OpenIndiana. Recently updated my DS112 to DSM 4.0, and I will play with new apps if time permitted.
The software DSM is the best, even other Qnap users are hacking and porting DSM on their NAS, seach for Qnology.

5 out of 5 eggsConsider me a Synology fan.

Pros: *DSM is a full=fledged, browser-based OS that has just blown me away from it's looks, feel, and sheer utility.

*I contacted Synology to see if there would be any problems with incompatibility due to my router not being on the supported list. I had TWO Synology people contact me back within just a few minutes. They were more than helpful to assure me they would support it anyways. Man, these people deserve every dollar of the price of their products.

*Silent. Even in "Cool Mode" it's utterly silent.

*Cool. Running a 2TB WD Red drive at low temps.

*Man, this thing has so much utility. My brother bought a different NAS commonly bought in a major electronics retail store for around the same price (although his was the same price WITH a drive, but *you get way you pay for*) and this just smashes it.

Cons: I DRIVE A DODGE STRATUS.

Other Thoughts: Synology's customer service alone makes this a no-brainer. I'm a fan.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper

Pros: Been using Synology DS107e for several years with no problen. Holds my Website (DynDNS), my File Server, My Photo Server and more; all via internet with no problems ever. Upgrading for a faster and more powerful and have to say now got the same reliable system but with more features and faster processor.

Cons: Have to found the way to log off from admin screen after certain time as DS107e does. so far it stays connected until I logged off

Other Thoughts: USB 3 and extra USB port will be a plus. Missing 1 USB port I use to it in DS107e
