5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: You're not only paying for the device with this NAS, but you're paying for Synology's incredible Diskstation software. Seriously look up videos of this incredible OS-like software. It allows for easy configuration, setup, and maintenance.

While you can attach wireless dongles to other Synology NAS devices, I like how this had it built in and would work right out of the box. The device itself looks gorgeous (LOVE that more NAS devices are coming out in white) and there is almost no noise whatsoever from the fan. Because of this device, I'm putting Synology on par with other excellent digital device companies like Apple and Logitech.

Cons: Compatibility with external enclosures or external drives is limited and listed on their website.

It's really not a con for this device, but I wish they made a 4-bay or 8-bay white wireless NAS like this. Hopefully it's coming.

Other Thoughts: Stop hesitating and just buy this already.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but has some minor issues

Pros: Feature rich
Pretty quiet
Nice looking

Cons: Buggy software
A little slow

Other Thoughts: Had a couple of issues with this device. First, the software has this auto "convert-thumbnail" function, that just eats away system resources if you have any picture on your shared photo folder. For example, when I upload just a single medium resolution photo, the "convert-thumbnail' process would start in the background and keep the CPU at 100% ALL THE TIME! It would only stop if I remove all photo(s) from the 'photo' folder. After much research online, I was able to find a way to kill the convert thumb process through a telnet command. But this is a temporary fix since it starts again at every reboot.

Another problem I had was every time I uploaded a large file of over 2GB (yes I enabled java), I would get a BSOD of "DPC_watchdog_violation" and my computer would crash. I called tech support and they said to call Microsoft because they don't handle BSOD errors. After an hour with Microsoft tech support, we found out that my AVG antivirus was creating a conflict with the Synology software. Upon uninstalling AVG, the problem no longer existed. I use Windows Defender now instead. I'm using Windows 8 Pro.

5 out of 5 eggsMy first server

Pros: I did extensive research before I bought this NAS server. If you're doing a budget friendly network get this server. Installing the DSM is rather quick and easy if you're downloading it from the internet after plugging a cat5e or cat6 cable in. Also the hotspot built in the server works great.

Cons: NOT BLACK! Lol!

3 out of 5 eggsSlow....

Pros: Classic Synology design and interface.
Finally, and build-in wifi

Cons: Software is buggy. The air version use a weaker processor and half the memory of 213. The device is much slower than the 213.
