1 out of 5 eggs10 Drive Failures in two years.

Pros: Only hard failed once.

Cons: Drives drop out about once a month. Pull them out and put them back in and the array rebuilds and runs for another month. I have replaced the chassis through warranty, and I have tried two seperate approved drives to resolve the problem but the drive just keep falling out. 10+ Drops in two years.

Other Thoughts: Using as iscsi with VMware 4.1 Esxi.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: We had really good experiences with the desktop ReadyNAS products. Based on that we grabbed one of these when we had a need for tertiary storage in one of our racks. The pros, are that it is based on the same ReadyNas platform that we were happy with. Pros stop there.

Cons: One of the cooling fans was broken when we powered it up. Netgear had to ship a new unit and TRIED to charge me shipping for a replacement chassis. I complained loudly and thankfully NetGear waived the fee. Their support people were responsive, but that doesn't make up for a poor policy on DOA equipment. Then, after we got the new chassis replaced and mounted we found the system unreliable. It 'panicked' or something a week or so later where it essentially stayed powered on but logged nothing and refused any connections. We had to physically unplug it. It throws occasional disk errors, but NetGear says they won't replace a disk unless they increase.

Other Thoughts: General performance on this has been slow and disappointing. The desktop readynas devices have been solid. This one has turned out to be a mistake.
