The Western Digital Caviar SE delivers outstanding performance with a 7200RPM spindle speed and SATA 300 MB/s interface. SUch speed gives you a cold start in only about 9 seconds. 80GB gives you room to store all manner of possible programs and applications. The hard drive has an 8MB buffer, maximizing data transfer from buffer to host at 3.0 GB/s, and from buffer to disk at 748Mbits/s. The minimal non-recoverable error rate of 1 in 1014 and start/stop cycles make this disk remarkably reliable.

Cool operation results in the highest reliability, even in intensely hot environments such as digital video recorders. That's why these, the coolest on the market, are the drives of choice for the world's leading consumer electronics and PC manufacturers. With wide compatability, exquisite performance and solid reliability, WD gives us another great offering to bring to you!

1 out of 5 eggsThey die after 2-3 years (maybe due to OS being installed?)

Pros: - Not sure if there are any

Cons: - Too hot
- Had a few die in the same amount of time

Other Thoughts: I've had 2 or 3 of these drives die in a span of 2-3 years each. They're way higher in temp than my 500GB Samsung drive that never died (37C compared to 30C). I'm wondering if it's because I use the Samsung only for data and not the OS. I used Western Digitals to store the OS only, so I don't lose any data I keep on the Samsung if the OS drive dies.

1 out of 5 eggsUmmm

Pros: Price was right...

Cons: Drive has been nothing but problematic; it's stopped responding after 7 days in-service and won't accept a rebuild attempt either

5 out of 5 eggsWorking great for 14679 hours!

Pros: -Very good performance for its age, mine being 8 years old.

Cons: -Mine is a bit noisy, but it's an old hard drive, its not going to be silent.

Other Thoughts: -Some hard drives last longer than others, some may last for 20 years while others of the same model may last only 1 year, this is one of the special ones as in doing tests it was found to be in very good health.

PERFECT SMART

Cons: not sure of speeds when new, but I have some IDE drives that are faster.
maybe its slowed due to age.

Other Thoughts: replaced with a samsung SSD EVO 850 250GB

even though its an old P4 tower, x86, 2GB MAJOR improvement, and can always use SSD in another PC

5 out of 5 eggsGood Product

Pros: This unit was used to replace a failing hard drive of same specs in an industrial PC. Computer saw it without problems making it very easy to restore my operating system. No comments on longevity since we just purchased it, but so far 5 stars

Cons: None at this time

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HDD

Pros: I bought this hard drive 10 years ago, and still works like a champ. It's been in 5 different PC's, and has not even hiccuped.

The one I bought was an IDE version.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: WD makes some darn good HDD's.

5 out of 5 eggs9+ years and still going

Pros: I bought this hard drive over nine years ago and it has been through 3 computer rebuilds. Since 80 GB isn't much space anymore, I use it primarily as a backup image drive...still working great.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: It keeps going and going...
