Western Digital has meant bleeding-edge hard drive development, and the Raptor X is a killer example. As they like to say, it’s the first drive with a view! Why? To let see the 10,000 RPM spindle speed and learn the real meaning of “motion blur” as it zips by faster than you can see. The drive uses state-of-the-art technology, with special polycarbonate lenses and carbon nanotube fasteners to allow you to be in on the action.

Why is this speed increase so important? Any time you perceive a slow down in your system, it’s mostly likely due to the seek time in getting your HD to find whatever it is that’s asked for, either by you, or some game or video. While manufacturers have been building larger and larger drives, they weren’t any faster, and so it was taking longer and longer to search through them. Western Digital has offered a solution – use smaller drives at faster rates! When you combine the reliability and speed of the new WD drives, you see an unbeatable combination certain to be wanted by every computer enthusiast around! Face it: you want it for the cool value, but do you need it? Yes!

1 out of 5 eggsAction Packaged got $200

Pros: It is a WD drive

Cons: It is not the hard drive i ordered, and it lists at $175 and i paid $200.and then received a $75 different hard drive instead.

Other Thoughts: Newegg customer service was OK and they did finally email me a RMA but i do not have a printer. They thought only a crazy person would buy a WD RaptorX hard drive for $200. They are probably right about that. .

5 out of 5 eggsWell worth every penny

Pros: I'm just writing this review because it finally died almost 8 years later, only one of the 2 I had put into raid 0, never reformatted the entire time and just now it finally failed to boot. The total on run time of these things has to be close to 4-5 years.

actual review part, they are fast, a little loud, cool window, great value considering they lasted for so long, 2 years longer than my 8800 GTX's I had in the comp.

Cons: None couldn't be happier

Other Thoughts: Rest in peace dear old friend

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great performance - very fast, responsive HDD. Has lasted for around five years, as I'd expect a Western Digital product to do. Served as my boot drive for years and years.

Cons: Generates considerable heat and is lacking in capacity (150GB).

5 out of 5 eggsI Love You, Western Digital

Pros: Purchased: July 2008

Status: Still running strong as primary boot drive.

Since I installed this drive, I have only reformatted once, and that was voluntary.

There has been absolutely no trouble, and it is still runnin' like a champ!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Running this on a PCChips A21G MoBo that I purchased in November 2005 (and it's still running, too! ).

I don't know what else to say, except, thank you, Western Digital, for making such and excellent piece of hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: I bought this back in 2006 and it just died on me. Thats 7 years or kick arze awesomeness. Its been through 2 computers and probably 3 reformats (nothing to do with hard drive errors). I would highly recommend it for its performance and its longevity.

Cons: Loud. Seriously, make sure your case is well insulted. This thing sounds like a Jet engine.

Also, its not high capacity, I would say to use this as a happy medium between a 7200 rpm mechanical and a SSD for a gaming hard drive.

Its also quite expensive. But thats to be expected it runs at 10k rpm.

Other Thoughts: Id buy it if you are looking for a hard drive to dump your games in. Bit more expensive than a 7200 rpm mechanical (and you get ALOT less capacity for the same dollar youd spend on a regular mechanical)

5 out of 5 eggsA truly excellent piece of hardware.

Pros: I purchased this drive in July 2008. It is still going strong, and since installing this as my boot drive, I have not had to reformat & reinstall the OS since then. I love this drive! Thanks, Western Digital!

Cons: No cons.

Other Thoughts: I agree, it's a little noisy, but not enough to be considered a con. I mean, come's 10,000 rpm!

Seriously, I wish I could find another one, reasonably priced ( still using the same obsolete MoBo with 1.5gbps SATA! )

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong

Pros: I had to write a review on this product after owning it for 5 years. It still hasn't died or had any errors - period! Though I will say the drive has definitely gotten louder as time went on - though it's still much quieter than my PSU.

Cons: Seriously? There are cons for this HDD?

Other Thoughts: Sadly this drive will be left behind when my new rig is built in the next week or so. :'(

5 out of 5 eggs4 years 10 month life

Pros: Wow, just had to write a review on this drive... Had it for 4 years and 10 months and the drive failed... Good thing it had the five year warranty... Got a replacement free of charge. I used the drive not only as a show piece, but also as a torrent drive, so it was always active!

Cons: My replacement drive did not have a window.. Original drive was loud during multiple reads and writes...

Other Thoughts: Wish hard drives still had 5 year warranties, but they aren't all made to last forever.. Big fan of Raptors for a torrent drive.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good drive

Pros: Bought this back in july of 2007 and it just failed.
Performance was outstanding.
I just added a ssd to my box so if wd will replace this is will just be a secondary drive for games.
Well worth the price I paid.

Cons: None
