The Western Digital WD1600BEVS Scorpio series 160GB hard drive offers an outstanding combination of speed and low power consumption. Using a highly efficient motor that spins at 5400RPM while only using as much power as slower 4200RPM drives, it gives you faster seek times and longer batter life.
Reliability is enhanced by WD's ShockGuard™ technology that protects the moving parts of the drive surfaces from shocks and WD's DuraStep Ramp™ locks the heads in a secure position away from the disk to provide additional protection when the drive is not in use. These features combined with the rigid stainless steel top that can withstand 1.5 times the industry average make this one of the most durable drives in the industry.
The exclusive WhisperDrive with SoftSeek make this the quietest 2.5" drive, regardless of spin speed.
Pros: Drive performs excellently! I upgraded from a 100GB 7200RPM drive, and was worried about the speed loss with this 5400RPM drive. I hooked both drives up as storage drives on a desktop (SATA jacks are the same) and tested both drives with HD Tach. I was very impressed. This 160GB drive averaged 38MB/s throughput vs 41MB/s for the 7200RPM. Personally, the 60GB extra was worth the slight loss in speed (which is not noticeable at all). In addition, the burst speed was higher with the 160GB drive (121MB/s vs 109MB/s). I believe the main reason for this drive's performance is it's perpendicular recording method.
Cons: None! (Well, 320GB would be nicer...)
Other Thoughts: This drive is QUIET! Much more so than my last 100GB 7200RPM Hitachi.

Pros: Great price, high quality, and silent operation. Works great in a MacBook.
Cons: Slight vibration (tolerable, but noticeable) felt in the right palm rest while in operation compared to the competitor hard drive I had previously installed.
Other Thoughts: Sight vibration not notable if you set your Mac to sleep the hard drive when not needed.

Pros: Fast, quiet and easy to install. This drive replaced a dead, original Dell 60 GB drive. It took minutes to install this new drive. The OS was loaded and the laptop was running in much less time than I thought. I would recommend this drive to anyone.
Cons: None

Pros: I have had this drive for six years now, I love it. It withstood A LOT of travel, more formats and file systems than I care to mention, and even in its final hour, as it is now, it is going down fighting. I couldn't recommend a better drive for sata I users.
Cons: Didn't last seven. ;)
Other Thoughts: SIX YEARS OF ABUSE!!!

Quiet - In a notebook drive, silence is golden. WD's exclusive WhisperDrive combines state-of-the-art seeking algorithms to yield one of the quietest 2.5-inch hard drives on the market. These algorithms also optimize the way a drive seeks for data, which significantly improves power consumption. So now silence (and longer battery life) is golden. Reliable and rugged - WD's ShockGuard technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. WD's SecurePark parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down, and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long-term reliability due to less head wear, and improved non-operational shock tolerance.
