5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Not a single hiccup since i got them 3.5 years ago. have moved them to multiple machines and now are in a media server. I build about 30-50 computers a year for clients and mostly use G.SKILL. had problems one time and the manufacturer replaced the bad stick at no cost to me over a year past purchase.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsAchaios

Pros: Does what it's supposed to do, quiet, reliable.

Cons: It isn't free

Other Thoughts: I've got a WDC WD5000AKS-00TMA0 500 GB with serial number WD-WCAPW5784103 working on my rig since 28 March, 2008. As we speak, according to the SMART meter software here, it has run for 23,368 hours. Zero issues, zero bad sectors. It has worked with three different motherboards (GA-P35-DS4, ASUS P5Q Deluxe, Asus Maximus VI Hero) and three different PSU's. Just felt I had to post this after seeing all these negative reviews.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy western digital

Pros: They only work for two years or less, so if you only expect them to work that long, go ahead and buy

Cons: They quit within a couple years, this is the third drive of three that has failed, all bought in 2011. I will no longer build with western digital, as this is becoming a regular thing with them. Their quality has fallen drastically, if their drives quit faster, they make more money selling replacements, they will not see another dime from me, I am passing along info to all I know who build for people. Western Digital is not reliable anymore!

1 out of 5 eggsWorked good for 2 years then died

Pros: Cheap storage for OS harddrive

Cons: Died after 2.5 years. BIOS sees it, takes forever to load Windows7. Then once it's loaded the OS will not work. Unable to retrieve any data as when connected to another computer it slows that one down as well. Checked on warranty and expired in 12/2012. Oh well.....

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good!

Pros: I've heard the stories that they fail. I believe it happened to people. I'm not saying it can't happen to me. But so far, so good -- never had a WDC drive fail on me and I've been building since 1995 and always bought WDC. I owned this one for 4 years and 4 months exactly, and so far, still ticking without a hitch. If it dies tomorrow, I would be very embarassed about giving it 5 eggs, but it seems to be on par with the good WDC quality I have always witnessed.

For desktop computing and gaming, access time seems plenty fine. Even with a lot of disk operations (I'm talking about EXTREME loads here) from many programs at once it doesn't take too long to clear up.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I recently purchased 3x of the similar WD5000AAKX from NewEgg which for the most part appears very similar to this one. As far as I know, the only difference is its a SATA 6.0Gb/s instead of a 3. I hope I have a positive experience with those as well. Never know about a drive though until its been used :)
