WD World Book
- Pros: Economical network drive, Easy installation.
I installed the software in 5 minutes and the drive was operational. I added the software to my other two computers on my network and all of them had access to the network drive. No problems with the install. It includes an automatic backup feature that can be used on all you computers on your network. It updates the backup whenever you change the file. I have also used the photo share feature with Mionet. It works very well. You designate a folder on the World Book with photos to share and send an email inviting someone to view them. It's easy to do. I have also used the remote access feature to operate the desktop of one of my other computers. Lots of utility and features, not just an external HD.
- Cons: none so far
Great deal for a NAS
- Pros: - Works well with my PC and with my Mac (manual set up on my Mac)
- Mionet software (after the last update) has been working great (on my pc). Makes it easy to access my files remotely - Pretty small - Great price for a NAS
- Cons: - Mionet was not so great at first but with the recent updates, things are good.
- Other Thoughts: I read that some other users complained about not being able to share DRM protected files. If you are within your home network, you can share everything you want. Most of my content is non DMR protected. I would recommend this drive to anybody who wants to get a NAS without having to spend thousands of $. If you have a decent computer knowledge, you will enjoy this product.
- Pros: Plug and play. The software that comes with it isn't even required. Compatible with vista and xp. Transfers are fast and uninterrupted on wireless.
- Cons: None that I can tell. Drive runs a little warm and doesn't seem to have a fan (but those tiny fans tend to be loud anyway).
- Other Thoughts: I haven't tried the MioNet, but I don't feel secure when there's a way to log into my stuff from some place on the net. The recent cases of private data being stolen from databases makes me a tad paranoid.
From what I can tell, if you buy this, don't install any software. The software must be why other folks are having problems with this device.
