5 out of 5 eggsLong lasting

Pros: Worked reliably for 7 years before failure.

Cons: Failure was without warning. One minute you could access the drive, next you couldn't. It didn't do any clicking or weird spin-ups, it just died.

Other Thoughts: Even though I wrote more in the cons than pros, instant failure after 7 years shouldn't be seen as a con for anyone doing regular backups (especially on a drive that old).

After the failure I was able to read the drive again using a very stubborn PATA-USB converter but it took a long time to even be able to recognize the disk. So there is hope for anyone experiencing a similar failure that didn't do regular backups.

1 out of 5 eggsNo good

Pros: Performance is decent

Cons: I see these 250GB WD Blue's failing quite often in Dell's Optiplex 980-9010 models. They're failing at higher rates than older drives.

The current price is absolutely insane; stop paying premium price for junk.

2 out of 5 eggsI like WD, but....

Pros: It runs, sometimes.

Cons: Had two go bad in one day, one was about six months old, the other about 13-14 months old. One wasn't covered under warranty as it was OEM.

WD sent the wrong drive as a replacement twice two times. On both RMA forms the model to be replaced was clearly shown to be WD2500AAJB. The second time happened after speaking with CSR. First replacement was 500GB PATA, second was 250GB PATA...

Other Thoughts: I prefer WD over others as they seem to break the least. So I still give two stars. RMA shipping is very fast.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked as Replacement RAID Drive

Pros: Never thought I'd buy another IDE drive, but my trusty old 1TB Buffalo Tech Terastation threw a drive after a brown out and this drive quickly solved the problem.

Cons: In these days of 3TB SATA-3, this is a small cpacity ATA drive. But that's what I needed.

Other Thoughts: When you need one, you need one. This one works, and it's quiet.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Seems to be fast enough, quiet enough, and has not given me any trouble.

Cons: None, except that you can now get more gigabites for less money.

Other Thoughts: I use it as a slave drive so if my OS drive gets corrupted I do not have to worry about my data.

1 out of 5 eggslasted 3 months

Pros: no pros

Cons: Lasted only 3 months before in completely failed. Used rarely for optional operating system. No return policy from manufacturer and only 30 days from Newegg. Very disappointing!

2 out of 5 eggsTypical junk

Pros: Cool and quiet

Cons: Lasted only 6 months before giving it up. I change underwear less often than I change hard drives now.

Other Thoughts: Are the margins in this industry so low that no company can analyze the data they are getting from the returns and then figure out what components work and which ones don't?

5 out of 5 eggsGood value and bang for buck.

Pros: Good value, fast drive, quiet, runs cool, formats and transfers quick.

Cons: none - but it didn't know where I left my car keys when I went for dinner... I guess I can't blame the drive though. ;^)

Other Thoughts: Another reviewer mentioned a blue screen when trying to format. Try checking the rest of your hardware (start with testing your system memory with a reliable tester - google "Windows Memory Diagnostic", burn a CD and boot up and test your memory) or install the drive in another system. Also, if you have this in a USB/firewire enclosure, make sure you are setting the master/slave/cs jumper properly. EACH ENCLOSURE IS DIFFERENT, follow the directions with your enclosure first! (Then when they say jump it for MASTER and it doesn't work, jump it for CS and try it again... or vice versa)
