5 out of 5 eggs6 + years w/o a hickup

Pros: This Hdd has been thru four builds in the last 8 years being primary for the first three and serving like movies and music storage for the rest of the time, just checked it yesterday and still going strong after all this years, unfortunately WD has not keep the same quality level in their equipment and it`s very rare to see a hdd being make lately going over three years w/o faults or problems, the same for other brands, other two Samsung F1 from about same time still working, hdd`s bought later than that are already history in my builds..

Cons: it`s not bigger.

Other Thoughts: Hitachi 7k2000 and 7k3000 are building reputation for longevity, that can change now that Hitachi hdd lines has being sold to WD. There are not Seagate older than two year in my pc`s anymore, all gone`s, no more Seagate ever.

5 out of 5 eggsRock solid at 4 years

Pros: 7200 RPM, Good storage capactiy, solid reliability

Cons: 640 GB has gotten to be a bit small for a lot of people, but its still a great drive.

Other Thoughts: I've been shopping around for some new hard drives to throw into my PC for a while. I'd love a SSD for the OS and a 2 TB for bulk storage, but I thought I'd look up my current hard drive while I was at it. And since I know the true value of a hard drive is measured in its lifespan and reliability, I thought I'd leave a review, in case someone comes across one of these at a great price.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Methuselah of HDDs.

Pros: I have owned this hard drive for SIX YEARS with zero issues. Just in case it croaks I'm currently using it as a backup drive, but it's no slower than when it was new.

Cons: Due to all the new builds I've cycled this warrior through, the SATA port is a bit wobbly - and roughly 1/10 boots the system won't recognize the drive. It's been doing this for about three years, but there are zero drive errors so it's merely a mild inconvenience. A single restart fixes this EVERY time.

Other Thoughts: Probably a better deal to get something higher-end these days, but this is the most reliable single piece of hardware I've ever owned, period.

5 out of 5 eggsOne finally died after 5 years

Pros: I had two of these running in a NAS and this last summer, after 5 years, one of them finally bit the dust.

Cons: Drives don't live forever - that's why I used RAID1

5 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: Ran for the last 5+ years no problem.
Takes all the abuse of me throwing data at it like a champ.

Cons: -not as fast as a ssd but what do you expect?
-Nowadays you can get bigger drives then this with larger caches and size in general but I also bought it in 08

5 out of 5 eggsTwo Running in Raid

Pros: Bought two and a raid controller in 2009, both still working without a hiccup. Bit old tech now but still get the job done.

Cons: Won't make me coffee very often

Other Thoughts: Computer hasn't been off more than 3 hours since it was turned on (has been a quasi server most of its life)
