1 out of 5 eggs3 of 4 Died

Pros: Warranty will get you a replacement but no refund past 30 days.

Cons: I bought 4 of these to replace hard drives for clients. Within a month 3 of the 4 pc's were blue screening. One of the drives is completely dead, is not recognized in any pc, doesn't show up in the BIOS.

Other Thoughts: After troubleshooting I found it to be bad sectors on the drives. I used Spinrite to recover what I could. One drive is no long recognized by any methods, doesn't spin when given power. Spinrite was able to recover some data off the 2. Newegg won't let me return for a refund after 30 days. Western Digital will only replace them. I have since purchased 4 Seagate drives from Best Buy. I have little confidence in WD hard drives. This has put me in a bad position with the affected clients.

5 out of 5 eggsFAST?...OH YES!

Pros: I'm running Linux SUSE- 64 on this drive. Right out of the box and every way I could reconfigure it, the drive worked flawlessly and fast. Previously I had some problems with DDR2 timings being too fast fore my older drives used on this MB. This drive and the same mb and ddr3 with the mfr. designated (fast) time settings ran right on the button. I'm interested in how this drive performs compared with the new SSDs.

Cons: It wasn't free or here the exact same time I ordered it. Things that make you hmmm...

Other Thoughts: NEWEGG is the BEST. My order was shipped and delivered within 1-1/2 days. Moreover, I or you or anyone else could not beat the price AND Free Shipping on this item.
It doesn't get better than the goose that turned NEWEGG loose

5 out of 5 eggsFast

Pros: I also bought a Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (N82E16822136319). When I formatted both of them (not the quick format option), by the time the BLUE hard drive was finished, the BLACK one was at 90% only.

After that, I ran some tests and copied some files from my C: drive (80GB WD BLUE drive) to my other two drives, at first it appeared that the BLUE drive was a few seconds faster copying about a GB of data. After some subsequent tests, it appeared they were very close.

Maybe it's just coincidence or something but it seems the BLUE drives are faster.

Both 640GB BLUE and BLACK drives are anywhere from 20-50% faster than my old 80GB BLUE, SATA 3.0 GB/sec drive.

Cons: It's not SSD?

Other Thoughts: Remember, you lose 7% of disk space of any drive when you format the drive. This is common knowledge.

5 out of 5 eggsRaid 0 OK

Pros: -Great Hard drives for $70 (missed the sale).
-no issues with running 2 in RAID 0 ATM

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: this is my first time setting up a raid so i might not have done everything properly (also using AMD and not the more popular Intel matrix).

HD TUNE-
max read - 205.9 MB/s
min read - 21.4 MB/s (at beginning)
avg - 145.2 MB/s
avg seek - 13.2 (kinda low imo)

these reads are all with about 400 GB's free on the drive partitioned 3 ways. so not bad speeds. i dont remember the initial read when i first installed WIN 7 but i know they were better. 155-166MB/s avg. definitely see a difference with installing programs and moving data....highly recommend

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: -Fast, Reliable, Quiet

Loads up Windows 7 64bit Home Premium in about 1 minute.

Nice and easy install, received it withing 3 days of ordering.

Reads nice and fast, I do a lot of major gaming, and it reads fast enough for even the newest games. Even after 13 hours straight of full on gaming, did not even hear a single noise out of it.

Mine rates as a 6.3 I think it is according to Windows Rating system.

Great drive, huge space.

I have noticed no real decrease in read and write speed, still going as good as it was the day I got it.

Cons: Under data load, after about 175GBs worth of info, I have begun to notice that it boots slower than back when I only had about 10GBs of data on it. However, this is to be expected.

Same as above, I have noticed a little more noise on the start-up, or upon opening a large file, about 5GB or bigger, but it really isn't that load compared to some other drives I have heard. But this is after a year of some hard core gaming, and having nearly a 3rd of the drive filled.

Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend this drive to anyone who is looking for an affordable large drive. I myself plan to purchase a second one of these in the coming months, and run them Raid 1; which I am highly excited about.

Although there is no proof on newegg or anywhere else for that matter really, these drives are Raid approved, and I have seen Raid 0/1/5/10/0+1 ran with 2/4 of these drives at the same time and have heard nothing but good things from it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: I have had 2 of these running for at least 2 years now as plain data drives (no raid). I have had no issues through multiple formats and partitioning experiments.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have these drives mounted in my case using elastic cord to dampen any vibrations, I can still hear them if I am doing major transfers but with my main drive being SSD I hear very little hard drive noise overall.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, quiet and cool

Pros: I have two of these running in a D-Link NAS enclosure in a RAID1 configuration and am very happy with the performance and noise levels.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I originally purchased one as my main system drive and ran Win7 off said drive for about 4 months. Windows would boot in under 1 minute and applications loaded fast. I recently upgraded to a 120GB OCZ Vertex2 SSD drive and wanted a backup solution. I ordered another WD Caviar Blue 640 and a D-Link DNS-323 NAS enclosure and couldn't be happier. I'd buy more of these drives if I needed them.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat drive for the price

Pros: This drive is reasonably fast for the price. I purchased one as my main drive and Win7 would boot from power up to desktop in less than a minute. File access and application load times were both very low. I never found myself annoyed "waiting" for a file to open or a program to load.

Cons: The drive can be quite chatty under load. Nothing too loud but I could definitely hear it over my 2x120mm intake fans (both running on low).

Other Thoughts: This was a great main drive. I recently removed it and replaced it with a 120GB OCZ Vertex2. The WD Blue will be moving (along with a newly purchased WD Blue) to a D-Link DNS-323 NAS enclosure.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Shipping Ever

Pros: I'm a Western Digital fanboy- I won't buy from any other brand. All my drives that have been Western Digital have never failed me within normal operating conditions. I've recently upgraded to this awesome hard drive for $50 (thank you Newegg specials) and was... a little worried about how it would be shipped based off some of the reviews. Well, it was packaged great. It was in a antistatic bag. In bubble wrap. In a box. In packing peanuts. In a bigger box. Very secure packaging and shipping, and the box showed up in mint condition. I feel really bad for those who get their drives in ravaged or torn conditions because of the shipping, it really sucks, but my experience was exceptional. Will update review over time when I've had the drive longer. Very nice speeds so far.

Cons: None so far, drive worked perfectly out of the box.

Other Thoughts: Replaced a 80gb WD drive that still works and it's 8 years old. Go western digital.
