Awesome Hard Drives

Other Thoughts: These are awesome hard drives, they've been rock solid for me, and when i need hard drives i know are going to just work, they're my first choice. I've been trying out WD's 1 tb black model, but my first choice for now is going to continue to be this awesome 640gb unit.

Windows 7 problem

Pros: none, since it didn't work.

Cons: On a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit, this drive was not recognized. After some research I found out that for some reason this set of drives (Caviar Black) is not compatible with the 64 bit version of w7. Sometimes the drives are found, but most of the time they are not. I am very disappointed.

Great Value Drive

Pros: Good value. Very quiet drive. Fast data transfer.

Cons: No clamshell plastic box to store my old one.

Other Thoughts: This drive replaced a 750GB WD drive when I upgraded from Vista to Win7. In case anything goes wrong with the OS install I usually pull out the master drive and stick a new one in. That way its just a matter of popping back in the old drive in case of issues. My older WD 750 was pretty noisy so I decided to keep this one as the main drive. Although I lost 110GB of storage its not a big deal as most of my data is stored on external drives as a safety measure.
