5 out of 5 eggsNice n New

Pros: MFG date is MAR 2013. 7200rpm = fast, 16mb cache = sweet. Fixing a friend's laptop.. they didn't wanna spend for SSD, so this was the best choice for a "regular" laptop drive. It's standard size, etc, and performance is awesome!! very happy with it.

Cons: OEM? whatever.

Other Thoughts: I was suggesting a SSD drive, but friend didn't wanna spend the extra $$ for a standard laptop. This drive came in a box wrapped in bubblewrap, inside a bigger box. Huge packing materials for just a hard drive in a static bag. But I know it was protected!

2 out of 5 eggsDied after 4 years

Pros: Good fast drive that didn't over heat in a lappy. % year warranty.

Cons: Drive failed after 4 years in the lappy, Data Life Guard said "Too many errors", Windows chkdsk wouldn't complete .

Other Thoughts: In 15 or so years of having a computer I have had 3 hard disk failures, all have been WDs of various models, one an OEM in a HP computer. I have an advanced RMA with WD for it, thankfully this one was in warranty yet.

5 out of 5 eggssolid performer

Pros: Good performance and reliability in servers

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: We attached 12 of these to hot-plug caddies, inserted them into two Dell PowerEdge T710 servers and created RAID-5 virtual disks with them. That was over three years ago; the systems have been bulletproof from then to now (although, amusingly, the servers log "disk not Dell-certified" events on startup). Oh, finally last month one disk failed, took almost ten whole minutes to swap out (cold spare was on hand). Highly recommend these disks.

1 out of 5 eggsExtremely Disappointed

Pros: We have several laptops for our salesman in our office and down time, as in most places, costs money.
I bought 2 of these in October 2012 as stock items, in case of failure, because of the great specs and reviews.
I later bought one in December 2012 to replace one of the shelf WD drives I was installing in a laptop.
Installed software quickly, as I expected.
Price was nice also.

Cons: 3 failues! 3 drive failures in 2+ months.
Anything else need to be said ?

Oh yea. You gotta pay to ship them.
Insult to injury.

Other Thoughts: I installed the first drive in Dec. 2012 and it worked about a week.
So I dropped another in. got about 1-2 weeks.
I now have the THIRD failure after about 1 month.
This reminds me of the old 4.3 WD Caviar drives, guaranteed to fail. No data can be retrieved either.
Will NOT spin up. I need to go back to the Samsung drives I was ordering. I have now spent several days rebuilding this laptop and costs me to ship them back.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat replacement for HP laptop drive

Pros: Laptop = HP G60. The original drive was a Hitachi 250 GB, 5400 RPM, 8 Mb buffer drive. Not sure if failure was a head crash, but upon boot-up one day, alot of 'scratching' sounds were heard. HDD check resulted in Error #10008 - Replace hard drive.

The WD2500BEKT is the same dimensions as the Hitachi but with faster spindle speed, and larger buffer.

Installed drive and recovered Windows 7 using HP's recovery disks. Service Pack 1 downloaded. All new updates applied.

Laptop has been running over a week with multiple hibernate/sleep sessions and warm boots/cold boots.

Flawless so far.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Great price from NewEgg. Reasonable shipping prices too (free in this case). Fast standard delivery.

5 out of 5 eggsLIKE A ROCK

Pros: I did not purchase this from newegg however the seller i purchased this from was known (e-bay seller ) i purchased this as a refurb in summer of 2010 and i installed it in a dell D820 with an nvidia quadro chip in it, last summer the nvidia chip died but this drive is still trucking... it has been ONE OF THE BEST HDD I HAVE EVER SPENT MY MONEY ON, western digital is bar none the BEST BRAND for a hard disk on the market, to this day that drive is still running like clockwork in the same system... if WD wasnt so pricey i would have purchased in bulk

Cons: WHAT CONS....THIS IS WESTERN DIGITAL WE ARE TALKING ABOUT

Other Thoughts: I WOULD USE WD FOR SERVERS , THESE DRIVES ARE RELIABLE
