3 out of 5 eggsWD black not quite what it used to be

Pros: fast, quiet, 5-year warranty

Cons: didn't last 5 years - began to fail at year 4

Other Thoughts: WD warranty process takes a few days to go through the back and forth email process, plus do the testing and grab the screen shots WD wants, so be sure to have your data backed up elsewhere just in case. Drive failed gracefully, didn't lose any data. Got a replacement drive (recertified) perhaps a week after beginning the Advance RMA process on their web site.
Replacement (recertified) drive failed after 8 months, had to point out to WD warranty people that the 5-year warranty on the original drive still wasn't up, still had 2 months to go. At least the recert drive failed gracefully, too, didn't lose any data this time either. The sent me another recertified drive, cost me another $10 to USPS the old one back, let's hope this one lasts longer than 8 months.

Observation: Got a box of dead drives in a corner of my workshop. If I didn't have the 5-year WD black drive warranty, these drives would have been the first WD drives added to it. WD black apparently ain't what it used to be.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Purchased it back in 2010, primarily used for gaming. It still sees heavy use daily without a hint of aging or failure.

Cons: The only thing I can think of is being just a bit loud, although that's kind of a whiny complaint.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid harddrive

Pros: I got this drive back in 2009 and haven't had a single issue since then. Runs just as good now as it did when I first got it. No complaints here, highly recommended.

Cons: None that I've experiienced.

5 out of 5 eggsStill works

Pros: Got this drive in '09, to this day it's still working just as when I got it.

Cons: Out of warranty already, but given that it's lasted 6 years, what's another 6?

Other Thoughts: Meanwhile I have a Seagate 3TB I got in '12 that I constantly worry about having fail on me.

5 out of 5 eggsStill running 4 and a half years later

Pros: By now this isn't anything special for a drive, back in 2010 it was a large capacity, fairly high performance drive. I've been running a system off it (now a living room media machine) essentially 24/7 since August of 2010. It's been a very reliable drive.

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsworst possible service

Pros: Silent, Fast

Cons: Horrible hardware and support. Ethernet and Video card went out after 6 months. support doesn't listen to you and gives bad instructions. this is a desktop and they kept trying to repair a laptop. There is ONLY mail in warranty available and you have to pay to mail in your desktop to Texas. DO NOT BUY any ACER product it is not worth it.
